Nobody wished me a Happy Birthday.......AGAIN !! I reckon I'll join Pigeon Watch - I bet they're not a bunch of absolute rotters.... Happy birthday, Bosun !
-
And to think the was all going sooooo nicely. There's always one, I suppose........

A couple of months back, Channel 5 ran a documentary called " I'm an alcoholic: my name is..." No interviews, big production values or flashy graphics - just ordinary people telling their stories. Brutally honest and, at times, very moving...... Worth a watch, if you want to understand a bit more about it.
-
But at least you never drink alone..........!!
-
I don't think anyone should pry into your personal circumstances. I'm just very glad that you've decided to take steps......good luck, mate.
-
Quite right, mate - sympathy never helped anyone. What does help, I think, is to share an experience with others, who can relate to that experience, because they've been there, too ! And that seems to be the case with you........
-
think you need some help thl not ! the place to air your problems , .reality is most dlnt give a shite if you drink or not ,its your problem deal with it I disagree. TB has clearly gained something by being honest about his problems, with those in a similar position, and has decided to do something about it. That's all that would happen, if he went to group therapy.....at least here, he has kept his anonymity ! Far from "not giving a shite", I reckon that many participants, me included, will have found this cathartic.......... sorry i dont i wish the chap no harm

A brave decision and a very honest admission, mate. Stick at it, and take your life back. Good luck !

Whether you wear that badge is a personal decision TC......... Funnily enough I have been wondering if I am or not for the last few years, but came to the conclusion that (may be a simplistic view) as I did not consider myself an alcoholic I could not be one. TC when you start to think you have a problem chances are you have I didn't want to be the voice of doom but.........yeah.

TC Seems a fair appraisal, mate. You're the only one who can make that diagnosis. (Or maybe you're just in denial ?) That last bit was a joke........

When you think how open this subject is to abuse and name-calling, this discussion has been conducted in a thoughtful and civilised manner, and shown a level of honesty and mutual support that I don't think I've ever seen here before. Well done, gentlemen !

It's got nothing to do with being weak willed, mate. And I too speak as one who's been there, done that, still occasionally wears the T-shirt ! I could go on about genetic markers, pre-disposition, family history and all the rest of it. But, if you're that close to the edge, it only takes a little nudge and over you go........ It might be a long way down, but it's even further back up !

An alcoholic is dependant on alcohol I have never been dependant on alcohol .... I think it just became a habit ... A way of life sort of thing ........ Well said, mate.... It's not for someone else to decide - and its too often a term bandied around in a derogatory manner.
-
Self-diagnosis, really....... It's not measured by how much you drink or how often. It's not something a doctor or nurse can decide. The only person who can decide that you are an alcoholic is you..... Also, (and this is not aimed specifically at you, mate) I think that anyone who follows the "just say no" or "pull yourself together" mantra hasn't really grasped the nature of addiction. By very definition, an addict has no self-control - their problem has reached a point where it is impacting negatively on their life, to a lesser or greater degree, and has often overwhelmed them completel

watching that program last night bbc1 about alcoholics , would put you off drink for life, i do drink have 1 can of carling a night, and 6 cans sat/sunday , compared to them on the show they drink dozen plus wine every day. there livers were in real bad way they were all none were going to live long if they dont quit. i went through mad time in my younger days getting pissed and getting in trouble , i was different bloke when i had drink, to sober probably to serious / boring when sober, but pissed life.soul of a party. so i though back then feck it it better to be me the

I also watched "Drinking to Oblivion" on Sunday night. The clips of the young lad in A&E were impossibly moving, and my heart went out to him. As I've said before, on threads about drug addiction, homelessness and alcoholism....nobody sets out to f*** their life up !
-
There's a world of difference between the lad having one too many and kicking off with a doorman, and the person who gets through a bottle of spirits at a time, and needs a drink to stop the shaking in the morning. Alcohol is a dangerous mistress, and we are all one tragedy or one bad decision away from falling down a slippery slope.....
-
First of all, Ken, can I say thats a brave admission, and I admire you for making it. My dad was a problem drinker - not an alcoholic, as he could go without, but if there was 5 cans in the fridge, he didnt stop until they'd all gone. When 'last orders' was called, he get two pints, instead of one.....etc. Unfortunately, he seems to have passed this on to me - like you, I find it hard to say no to a drink, when one is offered or available. The only thing guaranteed to make me refuse is if I happen to be driving, and I never drink during the day, but it is something i would love to say

I back them 100%. Jeremy Hunt (I think they said "Hunt") wants 7 day service on 4 day funding, and don't be under any illusion that this only involves a small number of junior doctors. In the NHS, "Junior Doctor" means anyone below Consultant level. Another government attempt to further undermine and destabilise the NHS........
-
Ride the storm out, mate.......she'll soon think of something else worth skinning you for !

Q : How many Alzheimer's patients does it take to change a light bulb ? A : To get to the other side !

I use Country Cover Club. 30 quid a year covers me for airgun, shotgun, ferretting, snaring and running the dog. (All the things I love doing !) http://www.ccc3.co.uk/home

Watched one of those fly-on-the-wall traffic police series last night. They stopped a fit-looking blonde girl in a pink Smart car......M 700 SXY
