  1. He's done it, as Kanny said, to fire a shot across Assad's bows.It won't have been done in support of any one side (and there more to it than Assad vs IS), because none of the sides are really supportable ! To my mind, Assad is just the least bad option !
  2. Imagine the freedom when war starts .. never have to worry bout authority.. fcking proper anarchy lol .. bring it on.I'm sure Google Maps could give you the best route........I wasn't joking, pal !If you want to witness death and carnage on a daily basis, in the hope of enjoying unbridled anarchy, I'm sure we could have a whip-round, for a one-way ticket.
  3. There was a good docu last night - "ISIS and the fight for Iraq"....... The whole country lies in ruins, carved up between bands of militia, who rule with fear and repression, often with the collusion of the national government - torture, murder, summary executions and extortion are part of everyday life. IS are almost defeated there, but now it's just been taken over by gangsters in uniforms. So much for our young men dying to bring them freedom and democracy !

  5. I agree ! The West's supplies and support for the 'rebels' has only prolonged the conflict - and the aim was to counter Russian influence, rather than a genuine support for the other side. The latest air strikes will give false hope to the anti-Assad forces and ensure that the carnage continues unabated......
  6. Derren Brown did a programme, debunking seances, a few years back, using the same tricks that Victorian spiritualists used. He had a dozen or so people there - even though they knew he was Derren Brown, he still managed to scare the 5hit out of them ! i think back in the day,,,harry hudini did the same,,,kept exposing them Houdini was a sceptic, in the truest sense of the word, though. He wanted to believe in an afterlife, of some kind, but couldn't find enough proof to make him believe. So, he debunked charlatans as a way of trying to find out if spiritualism actually existed.....
  7. You're wrong there pal, I'll be backstage with my old pal Jezza waiting to spitroast Diane at the end of the show I was right - that image DID give me nightmares last night !

  9. With all due respect.....it did sound a bit knobbish ....i bet you was a school prefect ? I hardly think possibly travelling to a foreign country taking in all the valuable experiences and cultural learning that could bring, not to mention the quality family time during todays busy lifestyles/work commitments etc counts as " off school at the drop of a hat " Maybe it would make more sense getting after these parents whos kids are off bunking school for weeks at a time than punishing folk for having a family holiday. I went to a bog standard, just about average,inner-city comp, mate !
  10. Yes except that holiday firms double sometimes treble the price of a holiday for kids school holidays i dont blame parents at all for taking their kids out of school for a week family holidays are important its not parents fault that these firms are exploiting them.Peak time holidays should be based on peak weather not whether its half term or not ...ive always thought that was needless greed and exploitation. Supply and demand, mate - welcome to the capitalist economy.
  11. Fair point, mate. And in your case, the absence was authorized - but I think that discretion has been removed now ? But the onus, surely, is on parents to make sure that their kids have as near 100% attendance as possible ? If they fail in that, for whatever reason, some sanction has to be applied......? Absolutely. Sorry if my first post came across as a bit "strident", but I hate seeing kids off school at the drop of a hat. Its becoming part of a recent trend that's undermining and devaluing learning and knowledge......I'll put the soap box away, now !
  12. One of my grand-daughters is regularly at home because "she's a bit sniffy today" - and, to be honest, it pi55es me right off ! If I told my sainted mum that I didn't feel well, she'd say "If you're that bad, they'll send you home, now get going !"
  13. Fair point, mate. And in your case, the absence was authorized - but I think that discretion has been removed now ? But the onus, surely, is on parents to make sure that their kids have as near 100% attendance as possible ? If they fail in that, for whatever reason, some sanction has to be applied......?
  14. So now we have TWO good reasons not to watch it !
  15. There are some parents who will teach their kids the finer points of Greek literature, on the flight over to Florida. And there are the tattooed f***wits, who attach no value to education, and will remove their children from school on the flimsiest of excuses. To deter the latter, the former should also be penalised. Laws and rules apply to everyone equally - it is against the law to remove your children from school, without good reason......End of story. My reason for saying that is straightforward.... I'm not sure how long a school term is these days, but if it lasts, say, 3 months,
  16. I think I've mentioned this before, but I once saw one of the slightly camp Northern psychics on TV..... After spending 15 minutes or so establishing that, among an audience of elderly ladies, one of them was named Margaret (genius !) and that her late husband was James...John....Joe, that's it Joe, he said that "he's telling me that you have trouble with your eyesight, luvvie"....... .....Margaret was wearing glasses !
  17. Ghost Hunters and psychics - utter, utter bollox ! The good lady watches these programmes sometimes - Paranormal Lockdown, Paranormal Survivor, The Ghost Inside My Child.......I'm waiting for "Alaskan Ghosts on Benefits" - every TV show rolled into one ! What actually bothers me about them most is - are they consciously lying, in which case they're ripping people off, or do they actually believe in their 'gifts', in which case they're deluded and need help ? Why anyone wastes their time on paranormal nonsense is completely beyond me.......
  18. BBC news, on its headline, even has it as .......Chemical 'attack'. Note the speech marks !
  19. I've just found out that my 10 year old brother is taking heroin.......They shoot up so fast these days, don't they ?
  20. Thank you, mate. It's hard to be humble when you're as good as me ! i think he was joking pal. But I wasn't ! Then again, it's a funny joke thread, so who's to say who's joking ? Maybe he was joking, maybe I was, maybe neither of us was, maybe nobody was, maybe nobody gives a feck !
  21. Thank you, mate. It's hard to be humble when you're as good as me !
  22. Last night, my wife said to me "How many women have you slept with ?" I said "Including you ?"....She said "Yes, including me." So, I had a think and said "Well, let's see, there's one, two, three, four, five, you, seven, eight....."
  23. Assad does have WMDs, that's what chemical weapons are... Maybe that's where Saddam hid them ?
  24. The Russians are not going to abandon a strategic ally, Assad can't afford to be defeated, the UN is not going to step up, and the Islamists aren't going to be defeated - they will just spring up somewhere else. At the centre of the maelstrom, of course, is Assad himself. The only realistic solution, that I can think of, MUST involve Assad being allowed to step down, following a negotiated ceasefire. The UN won't agree to this, so square one, here we come !
  25. Why on god's earth would we engage Russia millitarily? As sad as it is seeing kids dieing it will be a lot sadder watching my own kids suffer the same fate. It's not our problem Why indeed ? And the Russians know it ! Many wiser men than me say that a no -fly zone is an essential first step in de-escalation. But a no-fly zone would have to be enforced, and that would require the UN, or some other coalition, to confront the Russians....And no-one is willing to do that. Sabre rattling won't work against Putin, so any threat would have to be backed up - and that's not going to happen, not now,
