I've always loved frogs and newts. Wherever I've been living in the country, I don't think I've ever not paid a visit to a likely looking pond come springtime to check out the local population. I've given over my garden to wildlife and have built two wildlife ponds. There's been a gale here all day. Good conditions for amphibians. So as soon as it got dark, I had a wander in the garden. I counted 19 frogs in both ponds. But I came across this pair on dry land.Some males lie in wait for females outside the pond so they have first grab at returning females. This wee guy was successful

I can't understand how an athlete can let himself balloon up like that. Yes a stone at most for a heavyweight between fights, but he was obese. Getting down to fighting weight would weaken him. Amateur!

Yep. But I don't buy the myth that he took underprivileged kids under his wing for their own sakes. Both parties profited. I think Teddy Atlas was part of his stable too. He talks a lot of sense.

I think he's another 'dad's creation'. Kids who are forced? Into pursuing their dads' dreams. His old man made him do press ups for hours at 7 years old. He reared him to become a world champion. Fury was another to a certain extent. There's a lot of it in sport: the Williams sisters, Thierry Henry, Tiger Woods all reared to fulfil fathers' ambitions. When it works, it works well, but I can't help feeling they miss out on being their own bosses. In the end it's not good mentally. But when you're a multi millionaire maybe you can put up with it.

Provocative NATO expansion is given as the reason as Putin invaded Ukraine. Trump now appears to back Vlad. But the supreme allied commander of NATO is always an American. So isn't Trump criticising his own country's past actions? It's best not to take Trump's statements too seriously. He's thrown a firwork into the situation to confuse and keep everybody guessing. But there will be hundreds of serious minded officials brokering a deal behind the scenes. Nothing to get excited about imo.

The ironic thing is I've picked up a scots twang over the years. So I'm called a scotch c**t by my English 'friends' when I cross the border. When I correct them and explain they should call me a Scots c**t and not a scotch c**t because the latter refers to whisky or to scottish produce, they still call me a scotch c**t for trying to educate them. What can you do?

On a brighter note, I passed the swimming pool in Carlisle yesterday and noticed a sign saying kids can swim for ten pence after 1 pm. It really took me aback. Some positive, progressive thinking for once.
