Dog cabins/sleeping boxes...
Mustelid replied to Mustelid's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
That's just the stuff I was talking about! Didn't see any prices on the website though... I'm sure some cracking sleeping boxes would be made out of that stuff and that it would last. My dogs scratch and chew the wooden boxes to death. -
Heart of Wales Game & Country Fair
Mustelid replied to heart of wales's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Was anyone else as surprised as I was to see Robert Plant!!! I tried to explain to my girlfriend who he was, but sadly she had never heard of Led Zeppelin.... There's no hope for the girl. -

Dog cabins/sleeping boxes...

Have a look at http://www.caninekennels.com/~sa_webapp/run.asp?page=15417# -
I've just been looking at the Dog Cabins on caninekennels.com and they cost a fortune! I've always used wooden boxes made from 1/2 inch ply, but they don't last long. I like the look of the phenolic coated boxes sold by canine kennels. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever used phenolic coated board to make dog boxes and if so where they bought it from/what their verdict was. The phenolic coated board would surely last longer, be easier to clean and more hygeinic. Many thanks...

Thanks for the compliments mate. I'm keeping two, giving one to a friend and another mate is swopping a bitch out of his equally well bred litter for one of my dog pups. The three remaining dog pups will hopefully be sold at £400 each. However, I wont be in a rush to sell them and if they don't go now they can stay until they find the right homes. I like the more traditional style of spaniel, the more colour the better!.

Hello, Thought I would share a pic of my bitch Amber and her brood who are ten days old today. This is the first litter I've bred and I thought long and hard before doing so. Amber is out of a FTW bitch and her sire is AV Champion Steadroc Sker. The sire of the pups is FTCH Saturn's Spirit. Most importantly, Amber is a cracking working bitch who never lets me down. She had 6 dogs and 1 bitch and four pups have homes already which is fantastic.

Hello, Having done a little work with springers I now find myself battling away with a cocker... a totally different kettle of fish! I was wondering if any kind folk had any cocker spaniel training video's/dvd's for sale? Please let me know if you do. Thanks Gavin

is there a show in monmouth this weekend
Mustelid replied to dso88's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
This show is advertised everywhere...can't move for road signs! Terriermaid, where did you see the £5 entry fee if you park at the Terrier and Lurcher show car park? I thought it was £8 entry. Six of us probably going, so could save a few bob. -
My bitch is silent when lamping and mostly quiet during the day... the exceptions are when she marks a rabbit in a thick bramble bush and she can't get it out (she barks at it until I get to her) or occasionally if she runs a rabbit in thick woodland.

She's looking VERY well Gav.!!! Cheers Dave. Those pics are a few months old now, I'll have to get a recent one up. I work hard to keep all of my dogs in good condition, though I must sat that Molly has put a little too much weight on recently... I've got a supply of mince from a local butcher and the dogs only have to look at it to put weight on! Far better than dry food though... I'll just have to cycle a few more miles with the dogs behind me. I could do with the exercise myself! I love this dog to bits, though I do wish I had done things a little different with her when

Where are you based mate?

Molly, first cross kelpie/grey and litter sister to Mike's Cody...

Just a thought... are the owners of any of Nell's pups on here? Would be interested to see how they're coming along.
-
Skye is lurcher to lurcher over many generations... lots of colle grey, a bit of pointer and I would have to check wih Chipper what else exactly! Molly is a first cross kelpie grey.

Evening, I thought I would post a few pics of my pup out of Chipper's Nell. Skye is coming on well, though she does have an independent streak! I nearly lost her at 9 weeks due to gastroenteritis... thankfully she pulled through and I'm now looking forward to the longer evenings for training. I've also added a pic of Molly and seventeen(ish) rats that a few of us accounted for at a chicken farm in West Wales. A four hour round trip may sound excessive for a few rats but four of us had a great days' sport. Molly is rat mad...

Christ! That's a lot of Hares. Will there be any left there to see?!
-
Hi, I was wondering whether any members would be kind enough to share any locations where I might be able to see hares 'boxing'. I live in South East Wales and hares are thin on the ground around here. I have no interest in catching them, just watching them. I know it's a longshot, but if anyone can help out I would be very grateful. The closer to Gwent the better. Kind Regards Gavin

Nightmare weekend... Part 1
Mustelid replied to Mustelid's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
No history at all. The vet thinks epilepsy is unlikely as fits don't tend to occur when a dog is 'in work' so to speak. Apparently, an epileptic dog will have it's fits when it is relaxed, not when adrenaline is pumping... -
Nightmare weekend... Part 2
Mustelid replied to Mustelid's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Thank you all for the kind comments. Skye has been quite perky today, tail wagging etc. But... she still has major bad runs. It's like liquid coming from her. Plus, she is urinating every coupleof minutes and even straining to urinate. I don't want to be one of these hypochondriac owners, but she may go back to the vets this evening. However, she is bouncing in herself and eating well... Perhaps the diarrhoea is a result of the lactol she had at breakfast time? -
I've been very fortunate to get a fantastic little pup from Chipper, out of his bitch Nell. Skye is my pride and joy, but on Sunday evening I thought I was going to lose her... On Sunday morning I noticed that she wasn't quite herself and she didn't seem to want to eat. I did eventually get her to eat a little scrambled egg. I kept an eye on her through the day and at 5 pm I brought her into the kitchen and fed her a little bit of well soaked puppy food and tuna. She did not look right at all. When she got back to the kennel she had the runs bad and she also vomitted her food b

I thought I would share the nightmare weekend I've just had with you in the hope that someone may offer some advice... If I start with Amber the spaniel first. Amber is 5 years old, a hard worker and super fit. Two weeks ago she collapsed when out woodcock shooting... eyes rolled back in her head, lifeless, frothing at the mouth, going blue ect. I thought she was a dead 'un. I wrapped her up in my coat and jumper and ran back to the car and sent my shooting buddy up to the farm for the details of the nearest vet. The vet was miles away and I suspected that her glucose level had collapsed

Nice pups Glyn.

How many of you use spaniels for bushing? I only ask as I keep spaniels myself (for beating/shooting) and I have the good fortune to see lots of other spaniels work on shoots etc. The terriers I have seen bushing in my opinion aren't as useful as the spaniels. A good spaniel should destroy any cover and hunt for scent, not just on scent.
