  1. Mine doesn't win shows and won't chase a lure but he pays for his keep. He can be at top speed within 5 strides. So he can run anywhere.
  2. My current 3/8 DH x 5/8 GH is 30". He can turn and has a turn of speed that only a big dog can have.
  3. My first x was 32" and he could pick up bunnies and had the speed to catch anything.
  4. its never bothered me at the end of the day there dh and dh x they will have some size about them Exactly. I'd feel cheated if a DH x didn't have some size to them.
  5. so he don't take squatters then Does your dog strike at anything that you put the lamp on? Did you drop him on his head as a puppy? no just trained them to run the beam, have you never lamped a rabbit arse on I don't quite understand what you're saying. Because you've trained your dog to run the beam, he'll strike at rocks because they look like arse on bunnies. What happens if there's a rock 20 yards in front of the rabbit? Does the dog grab the rock and miss the bunny? This have invasive avian species written all over it!! That was a load of old nonsense as well! simple im 6ft tall
  6. I'm only playing and shouldn't be digging your dog out. It's not her fault that you're the way you are! Lol! My dog is slipped at that distance when needed and makes up the ground and gets his quarry. If you want to come and see, you're more than welcome. That LED torch is fantastic, I was lamping behind a LF 170 the other week without a filter and I was picking up bunnies eyes that the LF didn't show.

  8. No, that's not what I said. I know how to judge distance. I was just reinforcing the point to you. I know what the distances are and have witnesses. If you feel upset because you've got a mediocre dog, that's understandable but don't take it out on me.

  10. You should move to Sussex and get up on the downs or get some permission on a golf course with big fairways. You could buy a proper lamp too but I think a deerhound x would be wasted on you. Yep ,, and should learn to judge distance properly,,, Here's a lesson for you, on a golf course there are markers every hundred yards from the tee to the green. Even someone like you would be able to judge distance.

  12. What??? I never said I slipped at 400 yards, read it properly. But, historically, when we used to be able to lamp foxes, you'd often find that your quarry would hold position until the dogs were near. Usually only running as the dogs became silhouetted in the beam. It's a shame you never got to experience running the big stuff as you'd have known that. Damn this bloody ban!!!
  13. Pretty much. Let me just make this clear to you I'M STRAIGHT! I ONLY GO WITH WOMEN! My point is, if the bloke lamping can't see then the dog don't get slipped. There's a couple of blokes on here with very capable bull x's who were lamping with me. They were trying to get closer and I was about to slip. They slipped there dogs at the same distances that I'm talking about and their dogs made up the ground and got on terms. They'd never have done that if they hadn't seen me do it. If you're dog can't be slipped from that distance then it's not fit for the job and if you can't see to slip your d

  16. If you could run bigger stuff then I'd slip at longer distances than 200 yards. If your dog can't make up that ground then it's a draw dog not a running dog.
  17. I use a Nightmaster 800 in red. I get eyeshine from fox and deer at 400+ yards. Rabbits are easily identified out to 250 yards. The reflection from their eyes with the red LED is superb. There's a few blokes on here that have seen my dog run and seen my lamp work. If the fella lamping can't see that far, then that's a different thing altogether! My range estimation is pretty good and is made all the easier when I'm on my golf course permission, due to the distance markers. I'm sure of my distances. My dogs a deerhound x, he won't strike at a rock, I doubt he'd run one. He's got brains.
  18. Deerhound x's don't suffer from bad feet as a rule. You can slip them on real rough ground and they'll run it. Running any dog across flinty plough will soon smash their feet up. None of mine would chase the lure, but they're hunting dogs not racing dogs. I don't consider it a fault.
  19. Too tight a beam isn't the best for rabbits. It's easy for the lamper to lose the bunny as it turns. 100 yard plus slips should be the norm. I'll slip my dog on rabbits that are 200+ yards out.
  20. Exactly that. Although the colouring is very light.
  21. I'll knock you up a set at the weekend.Don't forget mine!!I've got yours, Blackstaff's boys, YCHB's, and the kennel huntsman's to do this weekend. P.S. I'll try and get some shape into your roe antlers too. Just that RK one would be tip top bruvva, are they dry now? Yeah, they're ready to go.

  23. Of course mate. I've bought a roll and had loads of bandsets of off it, other than my extremely valuable time, there's no cost to me.
