  1. You should try and let your dog grow instead of expecting perfect performance. I feel that you are trying to compensate for your own failings in life by puting extra pressure on your pup. I should imagine that if I gave you a rabbit, a biscuit or a photo of a naked lady you'd run around the field 3 or 4 times. In future catch your own rabbit and don't steal your mates!
  2. But they have no legal right or just cause to sieze the dogs. The police are commiting an illegal act, any half decent solicitor would hammer them in court.
  3. The police can't sieze your dogs unless they have genuine concern for their welfare or they catch you in the middle of an illegal act. Siezure of dogs and equipment is carried out after conviction, if the court require it.
  4. If it's pointing up and it discharges accidentally then it'll blow holes in the clouds. If you're holding it pointing down then, no ones feet or shins are safe, including your own. At my club I insist on the gun pointing up.
  5. 100mm is plenty big enough, that's 4". If your hobs get too big for it then they aint ferrets they're otters.
  6. When I first started running a first cross deerhound greyhound in the late 's, the only dogs that were really available were collie x grey and deerhound grey crosses. There were other crosses and plenty of people used either pure whippets or whippet lurchers. Anyone targeting bigger stuff had collie or deerhound mixes. The collie x blokes would add a bit of deerhound to there breeding to give the dogs a bit more fire and reduce the tendency for their dogs to back down or not put in to fox. Ive never heard of deerhounds not having a liking for teeth and have never experienced it myself. a large
  7. Morton, could you let me know what limitations that the use of collie blood makes up for, I'm interested in that outcross.. Cheers.
  8. This is where people make the biggest mistakes with a pup, especially Deerhound types,it kills a couple of easy rabbits and so it will soon be ready to test more fully, then reality kicks in and a pup that would have been better left until it was both physically and mentally prepared,as been overfaced, overmatched and if not ruined will take longer to reach its potential. At what age do you say I don't think this dog is what I want or up to its job 2, 3,4 year old? Lets be honest there's better dogs on rabbits and hares even though deerhound lurchers aren't the worse at hare coursing. Iv s
  9. got 3 and none of them open up atb I'm pleased for you. They are formidable little dogs and well up to the job asked of them. I don't, for one minute, think that it's a lack of pace that causes them to yap. I'm not saying that everyone will do it, just that it's a known issue with them. If you don't mind yapping then it's not a problem. I'd have a couple of Podengos if I didn't mind it. I'm an old got though so its not a trait I find desirable in a dog.
  10. Once they start opening up, they rarely stop. It becomes part of the chase for them. Whippets and whippet based lurchers are well known for it. Beddy x whippets are one of the worst culprits. If you can live with it then just accept that's how things will be. Careful entering, easy runs, squatters, etc could help but some dogs will open up no matter how careful you are.
  11. You may've missed the Midland but at least you got to see some phenomenal dog work.
  12. no mate been a pet all her life Been looking for a worker for a while, cheers.
  13. Nice result. Bunny numbers seem to be up again near me. Hopefully this season in Sussex will be better than last.
  14. Cracking pictures. Chilly, does that Airedale work?
  15. The 240 has a longer beam but is too big in my opinion. Negotiating fences, bushes and holding it steady in a strong wind can cause problems. A 170 is plenty enough for dog work.
  16. I use a red filter to spot and then flip it up and use the white to slip the dog. I find that, while the dog will run on the red light, he picks up better with the white. When shooting, foxes are less wary of the red filter.
