  1. i wasnt confused, you clearly said "got to be rough coated" and i simply asked why.........a good coat is always on a good dog............ It has got to be rough coated cos thats what im after. i wouldnt of got defensive if it wasnt for the comment you made before that. You said ''ffs''. i asked what the problem was and so did someone else and your response was ''why does it have to be rough coated?'' I actually didnt understand why you wrote ffs just cos i wanted a decent coat on my dog thats all?
  2. what about about beardie border x grey they can be a decent x had a beardie x years ago good dog it was only 20 tts not ruling anything out but ive seen pics of them they look the part for sure.
  3. Also im a fan of collie crosses but dont know much about beardies. I prefer them looks wise with a much better coat but Can anyone tell me how they compare to borders with brains, feet, stamina and speed? Cos i know decent borders are very fast dogs compared to anything that isnt sighthound
  4. Right incase anyone else thinks im retarded enough to think all rough coated lurchers are the same i think i should explain that i havent made a decision yet on the exact type im after. Thats the whole reason i started the topic. It'll primarily be running rabbits day and night on all diferrent types of ground, some really flinty with lots of cover. Most types of dog that bring a rough coat to a lurcher are generally hardy and tough with decent feet and extra coat around cover can surely never be a bad thing? Anyway anything that should make over 20tts will be considered, would prefer a typ
  5. yea i did see that cheers. Ive got a month before i move though so plenty of time to get a good idea of exactly what i want.
  6. Why smooth, why a collie type,a bullx,a whippety,a pug?????.Personal choice and preference. !. did i ask you......... many types come under a rough coat.........not all work the same.......... You asked on an open forum,i was unaware not all lurcher types work or even look the same, learn something every day, even from a feckwit. no need to spit your dummy out and start name calling now.......... just saying a rough coat is not narrowed down to one type........... oh really? how stupid am i, i actually thought all rough coated lurchers were the same, my apologies
  7. Personal preference if that's alright with you? It will be a pet as well as tool. If theres rough coated dogs capable of doing the same job as smooth ones then i think it's important that i find my ideal looking bitch. I'm not the type to get rid of a dog, ill own it for life so i really dont see the harm in that. I'm pretty sure theres a lot of people on here with a preference for the way a dog looks and make a decision based on that. If all rough coated lurchers were a pile of shit in the field they wouldnt exist and even if they did i wouldnt want one  ok you crack on........

  9. Anyone else got decent coated lurchers or know of any that are available any time soon?
  10. Well he's doing ok considering what he is. He's probably catching a third of what hes slipped on. He's obviously got his faults but that was always gonna be the case, im just happy to be out there enjoying it all mate. He, dont retrieve, sometimes yaps and sometimes hunts on if he sees the rabbit make cover he'll start bushing so you could say he's got a lot of faults i spose. He's got good points aswell though, hes fit and in good nick, still quick off the mark and turns on a penny.
  11. Them poachers pocket bred dogs are pretty much what im after, absolutely cracking looking animals in my opinion. Any pics rake aboot?
  12. Right my living arrangements are about to change which means i can get a new pup to bring on next season. Got to be coated and out of decent proven stuff which is hard to find as pups from proven working stock are usually spoken for well in advance. Just trying to find out whats about at the moment out of decent stuff and doing the bizz. Willing to travel and pay sensible money I know this topic title could cause a lot of slaggin, bitchin and rowing so can you please only post with the best intentions and keep the bitchin to a minimum. Cheers.
  13. I'm new to it aswell mate in my first season, Spent a month asking questions on here before i actually got out. Found some helpful stuff but ive learnt more in the 10 or so times ive been out on the lamp than the whole month being on here. theres not really many rabbits to go at round my way but i've definitely found there to be a lot more about the later i go out. 3 am is when i like to start. Another thing ive found aswell is that the much moon phase doesnt seem to matter half as much as the amount of wind in your face. As long as theres wind and clouds ive had decent nights even with
  14. Good to see you're having a bit of joy with your dog mate! Cheers Malt. Im loving it mate, really satisfying seeing it all slowly come together for him. Only missed 1 that night, he's starting to run the beam now wether hes seen the bunny or not
  15. My little muts on 14 in 8 nights on the lamp so far. Only getting out when the weathers ideal cos its his first season, think the penny finally dropped for him the other night though, had 3 in an hour and the yap has turned into a tiny yip now. Still wont retrieve though
  16. Some proper nice looking ferreting dogs there, keep the pics coming! Still interested to know if there is an ideal type of ferreting dog. i.e. size and ability wise, or will any decent rabbit dog be as good as another if brought onto the ferreting game properly? Just wondering if the turning and bushing ability of a small dog will give it an advantage for catching bolters over a bigger dog?
  17. Ive know people say their feet is the only bad point but i spose its a lottery with how their feet will turn out. i spose plenty of road work and not running them too young will help but i dont think i can afford to chance it which is a shame cos i love whippets. Think as ill be living round here for a long while yet ill need breeding with proven good feet like something with a lot of kelpie or collie and saluki in it. saying that though, had no problems so far with the whippet chorkies feet lol
  18. Definitely has a light speedy frame, quick off the mark and turns on a penny, never seems to tire either. Hes got a pretty decent coat aswell which has come in handy when bushing so far and has a good nose. So he's got positives but theres also a few bad points in there. Yaps on the lamp, whines on the lead and wont retrieve but im working on that Yours wont be the only dog with a poor retrieve, dogs have faults, thats a given. People being blessed with a brain have the ability to work with the faults. Well im not the type to pass a dog around, hes my first dog but wont be anywhere near
  19. Nice looking whippet you got there, how tall?I was considering a whippet for my next dog but the grounds terrible where i live. Chalk and flint everywhere, do you get many problems with your ones feet?
  20. Is it unusual to get such a decent coat from only a quarter beddy blood in there? Cos i want a decent coat but dont want to sacrifice any speed??both stunning dogs

  22. If i could find a bitch pup from a proper working stock beddy to a decent working whippet I'd be seriously tempted by it. What a decent looking animal that is
