  1. Had a week on Teesside with in laws. Great weather they've had up there. Managed to get 2 days in. Wednesday at Newby Hall nr Ripon. On the [bANNED TEXT]. Right under weir, thought we'd bag a barbel or chub. As it was only bits.....dace, roach, perch & eel. Very low & clear. Swale on Thursday nr Northallerton. Baking hot, no shelter. Polaroids invaluable. Just paced up and down casting freelined meat to any fish we saw (mainly chub) Managed a nice 3 1/2 lb chub in a deeper pool. Watching it charge the bait was a real buzz. Decent first run then once i'd turned him and got

  8. Carrying on the Barbel topic. Has anyone fished for stronger fighting UK river fish? I've heard Barbel, Salmon and Carp called hardest fighting. Just wondered if anyone with experience of all had a viewpoint?
  9. Best mate lives in Harrold, so do get up there couple times a year. Thanks
  10. Alright Dandyman? Which rivers in the NE do you fish? My in laws are Stockton people so fished the Tees (Preston park) , Leven. Also been down to Yorkshire Ouse (Linton). Think i have fished the Swale once , Topcliffe ring any bells? Think that was it. Don't get up there much but always good when I do. Anyway mate tight lines wherever you are.
  11. Thanks for that JD. My main problem is the Loddon is jammed with weed, making it difficult to trundle a bait for any distance. I did see a fella on TV putting 8lb line straight through to a size 6 hook. lump of meat, and using plasticene maybe 12 inches back up the line. think he rolled the meat down using a centre pin. Meaning any weedy snags you only lose the plasticene.
  12. Alright all. Concentrated on the chub past couple of years but wanna focus on the barbel this year. Anyone regularly catching? Tried last week hair rigging a halibut pellet & loose feeding smaller pellet, over hemp. Blanked, had a touch but fairly sure wasn't barbel. Any advice appreciated.

  15. ok moocher? yes i get out on the rivers from time to time. Coarse fishing. Mainly target chub in the Loddon, Berks. Trying for a (decent) barbel this coming season. Also fish the Yorkshire Ouse when I stay at in-laws at Stockton. When I go back to my famly in Pembrokeshire go out with brother in law after bass off the rocks. Father in law on Teeside took me to Seaham one boxing day after cod, without doubt coldest bleakest days fishing ever. I'd done my flask of coffee by 6am and we fished till noon
