  1. not sure on that, have seen some very quick and athletic bull X's - the cobbier ones have often been first cross litter wastage or line bred dogs with a job in mind. that said plenty of waste in first cross collie X litter.
  2. i'm not against selling pups, but it costs the same to rear a litter of russells as it does to rear a litter of KC borders, so not sure where the £200+ difference in price comes from. my guess is that people will sell for what they think people are willing to pay, so it does boil down to the coin, i suppose everyone has been guilty of greed in their time though, there are worse sins, people shouldn't beat themselves up about it, although its nice to give and receive pups FOC between like minded people
  3. great team of lurchers, that Socks with DD will have to work to a good standard to earn her place.
  4. Paul, glad they gave you plenty of sport and some grub on the table, is this line still going?
  5. complete crap look throu my post on my beddy/whip/grey smashed teeth week in week out used to use him end dig at least 2 time week pics on her to prov plus cud catch 4/5 hares at nite in big fields and still hav the gas to catch me 20odd rabs after and smash fox or 2 if we ran into em not many weaton hav that scope end of I don't think anyone doubts there's some excellnet bedy X's, but would you have had more failures than you would with a wheaten X if you were catching mailnly foxes etc?
  6. not a terrier but i'm sure someone did a video showing them using a 3/4 GWP 1/4 grey and it was a decent hunting type lurcher but lacking bit of pace
  7. my 3/8 5/8 wheaten grey can shift, there are members here seen him run and he's not lacking for pace. i would admit he has thrown fairly racy and head like a quarter wheaten, but does ok
  8. dogs often took more punishment if they were doubled up
  9. remind me not to have yorkshire puddings or jam tarts at your place
  10. a bitch of mine, pics taken recently , about 25 TTS and just under 60lbs when fit
  11. good post as always Cleanspade, that beddy whippet came in handy by the sounds of it. i did hear of one that kept going to ground and was eventually lost in a big place, never to be seen again
  12. heart, grit, guts are more important but if you marry that to size and strength then you have a winning combination here in west wales we have always been limited to quarry historically , no deer or hare to speak of so lack of blazing speed is less of an issue for running dogs
  13. going back to the size/strength of each cross, surely a pure wheaton is a good bit stronger than a straight beddy? if you used on the same greyhound bitch as a rule the wheaton X offspring would be the more powerful types? but i'm no biologist !
  14. i'm joking boys - read the 'beddy or wheaton' thread have no intention of getting rid of the wheatons, although at times i do wish i had a more chilled out lurcher that wasn't as hard headed and stubborn
  15. good feet on him whatever he's like work wise
  16. Or across between the two. yes maybe that, open minded
  17. i hope it grows into a decent working dog, is it bred in wales?
  18. fitchet thanks for your memories of Dutch - i think we all know a decent wheaten X will lean towards heavy work, but to be catching hares, fair play my old bitch saw one and she looked like she was running in syrup.
  19. it is not about the nicest is it it is whats in there heart mate as i said if they do the job thats good and none is better than the other i found the wheatons were fuckers for fighting with the dogs but as they say if it does its job and all that crack on .atb Hi Trotter, very true, we all like and want different things in life. I want a bedlington X now haha In all seriousness I would say that heart would only go so far for a lurcher weighing 30-40lb, a good biggun and all that. i won't disagree that many wheatens have a short fuse, like some bull types. i guess in days gone by la
  20. dont think according to the guy its done more single handed they are very strong we dogs heres the bitch i have from it she's a lovely bitch, how big?
