Just found this, If you look under named dog "My Tim" you will see his dam was called "Prospect Lass" I'm sure she was a proven bitch, as the men back then wouldn't have used her otherwise. Some well known names of working Wheatens on that list.http://irishwheaten.com/?p=101 There is a few known working dogs in that list....

The trials ware a prefection thing... any fault and dogs got disqualified ...some of the big trials would have 40-60 heavy dogs entered it was a long day with the 7 minutes per dog..... Im sure lots had tried their dogs a lot longer in the field or shutes in their yards..... anyhow the first few minutes was the most likely time that the dog would make noise..
-
Im not 100 Im not 100% sure but I think it was 11 inches square, for heavy dogs ... and 9 inces square for the sounders....no weight limit...a lot ware well over weight...
-
They would make no noise while traveling the shute...when they reached the pot where the badger was, a board seperating the two would be lifted and dog would be expected to get in contacted with the badger...no hesitating , growling , barking...or yelping... and work in silent for the 6 minutes....
-
All the dogs entered at a trials would be proven experenced dogs... all the dogs would qualify ...thats why the rules ware so strict... the dog had 1 minute to travel the 40 foot shute with at least one false branch off, and a couple of 45 degree turns, and reach the badger there was three judges from different clubs...ears to the ground listing ...if a dog dog gave the slighest growl, yelp, bark ...the judge would lift his hand up...if two judges of the three lifted their hands up the dog was disqualified, .. the dog would have to work in silence for the futher 6 minutes to qualify...

Im only discussing too... but thats how this all started ...I stated unlike Staffords...there was no game tested line or best bred to best line of Bull terriers , all are show / pet dogs..best to best show winners... the Staffords and wheaten all worked good, no one would bring a dog to a trials who would'nt work, and thats the reason why there was very few Bull terriers at trials, very few made the grade... the rules ware very strict ... it only took a little error for the dog to be diquaified ... Your not saying what these Bull terriers with good conformation win..again and again ? so I can -

Neil they might not be nice looking dogs... but they could not get the nice looking dogs to work...my oppinion on Bull terriers is they are not game..not to the standard of working Staffords and no where near the standard of a average APBT... they ware developed for looks and dog showing...using breeds that have no gameness like dalmations in their make up ..... comformation for badger trials ...they did not need good conformation... to squeeze into a artifical earth... when Trials where run Bull terriers ware rare because it was almost impossible to get one game enough to hunt... the Gull Te -

What did you try them on?I ain't stupid enough to post what I have seen them do but the ones I have seen and I have seen quite afew were very game at what ever they were tryed atI did not say you were stupid,I do not use that language in a civilized debate on dogs.On the BULL TERRIER 2 thread you said, people who say they are useless are IDIOTS.This idiot has giving several personal examples(as have others)why I think they are useless, but you call me idiot for voicing my opinion. If somebody has no personal experiences to add to any debate or something constructive to say, resorting to the langu -

As a breed I think the Bull Terrier fall way behind Staffords.... in gameness and ability.... I know the NATHAN dog Bolio mentioned.. but in general very few Bull terriers proved themselfs in the field or other sports.... -
