  1. good write up arctic, have you been flying bop's for long? and yes your right i think its the reputation
  2. have you ever been out with one ? seen one fly ? no unfortunately not, just harris and spar the guys in the club who dont fly gos's say the same, its all telementry and you dont get to see the majority of the flight. However regardless of the bird i choose to fly gamebirds are few and far between where i am, rooks/magpies and rabbits will make up the majority of my quarry ive seen a fit mhh and there was no gliding involved, opened my eyes to what they could do but there seems to be an allure with the gos
  3. my earlies (aronn pilots) are ready to go just waiting for the weather to warm up, the second earlies will stay on the window sill to chit to end of april jalapeno's and tom's (gardners delight) will be started by the weekend latest then its just strawberry runners when i see them for sale and some letttuce things she eats thanks for the advice to get me this far
  4. your having some fun mate thanks for the info
  5. does siltex/lime disperse the silt or harden it up? and would anybody have any advice on the benefits of removing perch, will it benefit the roach/rudd/tench size etc?
  6. what are the problems a first timer will encounter with a gos in comparison to a harris?
  7. i thoughout a spar was the hardest to look after, thats ultimately what i would like to fly, seen one couple times this season flown at magpies and rooks- all i can say is WOW!
  8. and there fairly quiet? harris's? the odd cheep or chirp throughout the days not a problem its just the horror stories ive heard on other sites
  9. This is the last aspect of falconry that i really cant seem to get my head around; throughout the moult the bird if fed through a chute wont see you and then associate you with food therefore will not call to you (moisy/screaming) but what about through the season and the days where your not hunting and cant feed away from the mews? does the same principle apply? Also does having the mews have to be placed in the garden were the bird will not really see any human beings help, except for the odd dog walker or kid passing the fence? If i take the plunge this season i want do everything a
  10. genuine question, why does the gos get classed as game bird only? whats the problem with hunting predominately rabbits, rooks etc with the odd game bird thrown in, turning the tables so to speak? is it feather damage?
  11. the travel rods will cost you more but will last longer, they break down into seperate pieces. seen telescopics shatter before on the cast and has been said can become 'stuck'

  16. your braver than me for going out on a day like today! nice fish tho
  17. ive had her from 12 weeks old, shes now 2 and a half. first problems started a year ago when she was charging around the fields with another dog, she was getting walked at least once a day then both on the road (up to 3miles) and over the fields, she never really seemed to grow into her feet if that makes sense, theyve always been very long and thin. thanks for the help so far, my partners cousin who is a vet nurse is going to show me how to trim them tomorrow and she will be confined to road walking for the foreseeable future.
  18. so this is my fault rather than breeding then, so fixable? i have little experience and the last staff had short, tight toes which never bothered her in her short life but she got alot more road walking as I then lived in a town. she doesnt pull on the lead at all westy76?
  19. great stuff, i'll get that sorted out as soon as then. I sort of guessed she needed more road walking but its alot handier (and more enjoyable) for her too be off lead over the fields, many thanks
  20. yeah mate thats the problem toe that had the op when trimmed it doesnt meet the ground, the one that gives her the bother, looks bad doesnt it? the nails are so long because she can only get walked 3-4 times a week without the problem one getting sore.... i appreciate the input so far guys
  21. hope this gives you lads a better idea
  22. is that the bitch in your avatar? fine looking animal if it is! have you ever had any problem with her feet/toes?
  23. What do you want the dog to do? be loyal, trainable, alert me to strangers in the back yard but be quiet, flush, point and swim yet be content to sit by my side for a few hours when fishing. collie x not really for me mate, thanks for the input though
  24. yeah that was kind of my next question, where do i go from here...... get another staff, or go down the russel or german pointer, both have there strenghts and weakness?
  25. alright lads, i have this staffy bitch me and the girlfriend bought after are first one died, neither where bought for hunting just a fishing and walking buddy, but i have since got into more fieldsports rather than just fishing. Now this bitch i have now has terrible toes, she has a real bad one that was operated on once and any time shes off the lead charging about it ends up sore, now i know the solution is to have it choppped of but where.....the nail its self or the whole toe? one or two others seem to be bothering her now aswell is there any way to toughen them up at all? shes a funn
