Pellet selection
Skot Ruthless Teale replied to pete123's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
my old bsa lighning xl didnt like super h point at all!! even at 35 yards the groupings were nearly twice as bad/big as the air arms and field target trophy(which were near enough the same size as eachother) good for rats and ferals at very close range though... -
cool i remember my .22 s200 a few years ago i actually think it was slightly more accurate than my s410 .22 and only cost me half as much !! i wudnt mind a hw100s but cant afford one yet plus id need filling equipment. pay off my holiday and credit card first then start saving i guess. haha

so i dont need to clean between different brands? what if i wanted to do a 5 pellet brand grouping test. i was thinking ... clean barrel. fire 20 air arms to line the barrel, then 5 or 10 as a group test then clean again, fire 20 superdomes, then 5/10 for accuracy test.... then clean, line it, test again with next pellet type... etc etc. or would you just clean barrel then fire 20 aa's to line it, then 5 aa, 5 ftt, 5 superdome, ...etc ?? i want to see which is best for my rifle i have 6 types to try AFTER ive put about 2000 total through it because its brand new..

hi i was just wondering how you clean the barrel on your tx?? ive just got a new 97kt and i want to give it a good clean before i start using it, but with it being an underlever i figured it would be quite awkward with my cleaning rod.?! I was thinking.. thread the rod through the muzzle towards the loading chamber thingy, and then putting a patch on and pulling it out- then removing the patch.. rinse and repeat a few times...??! ive also got a bronze wirey type bit aswel just wondering what this is for because it looks like it would scratch the inside of the barrel and maybe damage th

Plastic pellets?!
Skot Ruthless Teale replied to Skot Ruthless Teale's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
just done a quick grouping test at 25yds with 4 different lead pellets and these plastic things. results were as predicted lol these really are a bad idea. i was nearly rolling around laughing at how pathetic they are!!! -
cheers duncan pal

lol schoolboy error! hahaa.. theres a road at the bottom of the field but its a big field. Obviously im not going to shoot towards the road, and im going to make sure i have a good backstop. so i was wondering about the law regarding shooting near roads.. i know you have to be 50 ____ away -and not shooting in a way that is dangerous or whatever-. but is it 50 yards. meters, or feet?? this is the only 'grey area' im not sure about. i have permisssion, gun is 11.7ftlb, blah blah blah but i just needed the distance thing clearing up.

ive seen these crows picking there way through all sorts of rubbish. and there is a chippy just down the road from my permission, also there is an estate with a lot of D :censored:head kids so theres always plenty of rubbish laying around for them to scrounge. so i rekon the dead rabbit half gutted type bait isnt going to be as good as good old fish an chips lol but it could swing the other way and be the best choice, as if it was a rare treat for them!

i dont think im going to have much luck to be honest. these crows are very erm whats the word im looking for... confident, daring?? when i walk past the same birds on my way to work they jump around like ferals do in town centres.. you can nearly kick them!! thats how close i can get to them.... but i know its going to be different story when im sat virtualy underneath there roosting trees , i plan on sitting with my back against the wall and get my advantage timber coat on and just sit as still as i can. and put the decoys about 25-30 yards into the field lets see if they dare then ey!!
-
i havent ever tried decoying myself, but im guessing its like fishing for carp. keep trying diffrent things and see how they want it at any given time.. one day could be totally diffrent from the next...im guessing! it is something i want to try as i have a permission close to me where there are plenty of crows and maggies in some woods next to 'my' field, but obviously i cant shoot them whilst there not in my field because its not my permission. so i need them to land in the field. im going to try a few diffrent things. id say keep trying and have patience and you should pop a few soone

Skot Ruthless Teale replied to Skot Ruthless Teale's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
there near enough the same but these dont have pointy metal, there flat. -
hi everybody, i got these pellets given to me the other day by this crazy old guy i talk to at work just wondered if anybody could identify them? there yellow with a lump of metal/lead in the end of them. and would be nice to know what they weigh aswell i dont have any scales. there .177.... 4.5mm? also i was wondering will they deposit plastic in the barrels rifling?? will this have to be cleaned out before using lead ones again.??? i was going to do an accuracy grouping test type thing but havent had chance yet got 6-a-side soon any ideas?? lol cheers

credit where credit is due... amazing shot mate respect

see, i never used to go on the internet much, and the ranges i used to shoot at was close medium and 'miles away' 'miles away refered to about 30-35 yds.... i didnt actualy realise how powerful these 12ft lb rifles actualy were until i seen vids online, of various people such as yourself shooting not just live quarry at 50+yds, also shooting targets at 200 (meters?? if i remember right. might have been ft or yds..??) anyway.. id like to be able to get good enough to shoot at 60 yards -and i know thats not going to happen overnight- however even if i could get a 2p size grouping at

like i said i dont try take ridiculously long shots. i know my ranges and abilities. i was shooting targets the other day and i know about wind and all that stuff. i can shoot prettty good at about 45 yards [bANNED TEXT] my springers. but i dont try shoot animals that far. i try get as close as i can. my prefered range is about25-35 yds when shooting live animals. i dont want anything to go wrong like just injuring stuff. also ive seen a lot of your videos si and i know how good you are, it was meant as a joke i didnt mean to offend anybody or sound cocky. ive been shooting for around

well aparently it would probably be 'easy' to most of these 'snipers' on here with there pree charged!! im quuite happy getting in closer to stuff and going for an easier shot. less risky and a lot more respect is given to the quarry. plus its fun and a challenge. better than setting up and waiting until something lands or pops its head up at long range then all you have to do is move your bipod slightly and squeese the trigger! thats just my view though. each to their own i say. i like to be active when im out hunting. sneeking around slowly and stalking is more my cup of tea than t

90 yards ey! cool. at the min im only shooting at about 40-50 yards with my .177 springer. might increase that range as i get better with practice. but now i know 90 yards is the 'kill' limit even if i get really good i wont shoot further than that. would be quite irresponsible. cheers pal
-
so if a .177 is doing 11.7 ftlb at muzzle, what is the distance that the pellet will travel until it will be impacting at 4 ftlb ?? (say for examle.. with air arms diabolo field pellets . 8.4 grain)
-
1. yes there pretty much the best time 2. it depends on the land, if there is lots of trees and things to block the rabbits line of sight then as long as your quiet and move fairly slow it shouldnt be a problem to wear eveyday dull clothes. IMO 3. dunno haha il let somebody else guide you on that! all the best pal SKoT

tony i rekon your a sound guy and i have no beef with you, but i didnt say i regularly shoot for the chest.. at the start of my 'shooting career' i wasnt as confident/good so i went for chest shots.. i actually said iv had about 100-120 woodys over the years, and between 10-15 have been cheast shots.. that would leave the other 90-105 shots aimed at the head. and only 2 have flown off from the chest shots.. these days after growing up a bit and been more responsible i dont go for the chest shots anymore. i dont want to injure things or cause suffering. i just want some nice food
