Give the dog a try you will find out in time, there is slot of folk out there with dogs 7 plus working away yes the dog maybe out of action for a few year but he will still want totry his best so give him ago. As for getting him fit plenty good grub walki g mooching lamping etc will see him in good shape
  4. Tbh my local ground has always lacked rabbits 1 or two a night was the norm but this sason seem to be seeing a few more and I'm getting maybe 5-6 a night had the odd time where dog caught 10- 11 round here but that is a rarity if you want a decent night at the rabbits you have to travel and it's defiantly worth it was out other night on small farm and there was a very good number of rabbits to be had
  5. im looking to attend a hunt on boxing day but which hunt is the best to follow and where do they meet and at what time cheers jcm
  6. What do you do on there belly do you cut the hair there or strip,
  7. He is still digging to his dogs today and the pups he is breeding are going to working homes and are getting tested and are proving to be handy dogs, he had few lads from midlands over for some sport and the lads couldn't of spoke better about the man and his dogs
  8. I think he could do with stripping out now tbh but I don't want to as the weather is cold, however he does live indoors
  9. So do you strip hair towards the back of the dog or towards the head
  10. Can anyone run me thro this please when should a dog be stripped where on the body do you start and do you ever strip a coat out in the middle if winter and how many times a year do you strip out a dog's coat ?

  13. It would be nice to have this topic pinned at the top of the page please admins Can we all use this thread to post pictures and some friendly banter of our dogs with there rabbits this season weather it's lamping, ferreting, mooching etc and hopefully keep it going throughout the winter. Personally I think this site is being taken over by the coursing lads, don't get me wrong some of there posts make for a good read but there isn't many posts purely for the bunny bashers. Thanks and atb jcm
  14. Best of 5 slips or over so many hours
  15. I run him wherever theres gear to run mate..im not saying he would be better than the local strays down in Lincolnshire if thats where I was going to work him lol but we bred him for the areas I was predominantly going to work him, fell, woodland, scree, scrub, clear fell, marsh land, heather, hilly, pasture and crop we have everything here so a one trick pony is not worth a toss in these parts well not if your intention is to catch what you chase. .no he would never of been a hare dog back in the day, would he of caught a good few hell yes ") To get the best out of a dog you have to work it to
  16. Thanks mate what sort of ground do you run him on or should I say what sort of ground does he do well on or can he cover most ground well enough
  17. It's hard work but what I done was no more day time work Untill you get him working the lamp 100% then ones he is lamping start with the day time mooching and lamping
  18. I'm not a fan of collie curs due to seeing a lot of bad ones one only the one good one which was a 3/4 bred and possibly the best dog iv ever seen on big game. All the other ones were loopy and by far too brainy picking there runs etc and they were half x, do you think it's down to the collie used or the up bringing? By the way your dog looks a very nice type and one day I may possibly get a collie cur if I see a few good ones as I realy like pure collies and have seen some very smart ones at that which I would of loved to use to make a decent rabbiting lurcher.
  19. He is always cuting round his eyes but the ear looks as if it has tared away from the head a little bit
  20. As most of you will already know I have a young Lakeland dog that is becomeing a very handy dog to have about the place to put game out for the runners. Anyway it seems that every time I go out he is getting some knocks and cutting him self, he has a pretty good coat on him, anyway took him out today for a quick wander and he worked very well but when we got to the van I noticed that he had bust a toe nail and ripped open his ear, the bit of land we covered today is thick wood land with some very thick cover and the problem to me is that he will hit the cover like a steam train, and has to
  21. I feed raw meat with a handfull of gain 28 and my dogs do well on it I do also feed veg fish etc but as the main feeds it's raw mince and gain
  22. My lamping pals dog is about 9 and he is still out 3-4 times a week lamping aswell as mooching etc however the dog has seemed to slow up Abit this season but a true allrounder of a dog and a dog that he will never have one as good as
  23. Cheers mate hopefully we have some good dark nighs with plenty wind so things will be more in the dogs favour
  24. Went for a shine lastnight decided to go down the road with my pal gavey dog a few slips and he just couldn't catch them, was frustrating as this season he hasn't missed much at all and last night he was getting to them and turning them giving a decent run but couldnt pick any up so gave my mate's dog a few slips he missed a couple and picked two up in one feild into the next then another in the next feild and by this point we knew that the only way we were going to catch any was by giveing stupidly long slips anyway I spied a rabbit at the far end of the feild best part of 200 yards away and
  25. I have a pair of muck boots and a pair of meindls and I favour the meindls as the muck boots nack my heals
