I'm assuming you're talking about American dogmen? Let's be honest they wouldn't know the exact origins of the breed either so their guess is as good as ours. Richard Stratton is of the view that the APBT is the Bulldog but like I said, why so many historical articles and such stating otherwise? -

Of course it's as pure as any dog breed out there because all breeds are a mixture of different dogs somewhere down the line. If there's no Terrier blood in there then why is there so many historical articles and writings stating otherwise? I don't buy the opinion that Terrier blood was added just to downsize the dogs for the pits, there must have been a benefit to their fighting ability when these crosses were made. You don't cross a Racehorse with a Donkey to make it faster. The EBT is nothing but a showdog but like I said, it's ancestor's were likely Pit dogs of the past, the same with the -

It was a great documentary but a little biased, Johnson wasn't always the poor victim as was portrayed. Can't believe there hasn't been a movie on the man, done right it could be a great film.....

Crazily enough I've just turned on Sky and low and behold the second part is on, looks a great documentary.

Cheers for the heads up Mick...love this kinda stuff...its on again tonight so have set to record it...in regards to the way Johnson was treated...to quote the great Jem Mace...it was "other times other manners"...Johnson would have to be another candidate for the title of 'Greatest'...Bob Fitzsimmonds too...names now being lost to time...along with the previously mentioned Mr Mace the 'Father of Modern boxing'..who played a major part in forging the sport as it is today.Ali thought he had it hard lol, just watch what Johnson went through. It was the wily old Johnson who showed Schmeling how to

That's what I'm saying, there's no smoke without fire. Rumours just don't appear from nowhere. It's plain to see with your own eyes Bulldogs that resemble Terriers. The Bulldog is a type not a breed, some families had more Terrier blood in them and others more Bulldog blood in them. Speaking of Bullterrier's, Walter Komosinski, a famous dogman born in the late 1800's apparently used a game Bullterrier in his breeding program and he fought and beat the best dogmen of his time. It's plain to see that there's a Bullterrier type dog in his strain. walter komosinski dogs - Google Search h -

There's no smoke without fire, IMO there's definitely Terrier in there. You'd have to be blind not to see it, of course certain strains that went over the pond had more Terrier blood in them whereas others had more Bulldog blood in them. Maybe the old Terriers added more than just speed and agility, gameness could have been a nice trait of theirs just like the Bulldog. -

The English Bull Terriers ancestors were not working game dogs. He was bred for looks , nothing more, nothing less so when a game one crops up IMO that's a bonus not a dog who's doing his ancestors proud, which IMO is something every working dog should do.Of course they were, go look at early pics of Pitbulls and you'll see dogs that resemble the Bull Terrier, hell even today they pop up. The Bull Terriers baseline is the Bull and Terrier AKA the APBT crossed with the English White Terrier. It was bred for looks but it's of no surprise that the odd one still has a little fire inside. At the end of the day the Bullterrier's ancestors were working game dogs so it's no surprise you will get lucky once in a while, hell there's been game show Staffs over the years. The Bullterrier along with the Staff have been bred to be show dogs, nothing more nothing less.... -

I doubt both Walcott and Louis would have retired had they defeated Marciano. Getting knocked out badly takes a lot of confidence out of a fighter. Ali was on fire against Williams but remember Williams was shot also, literally.... Ali for me is the greatest of all time.
