  1. They're talking bollocks as per...
  2. Find me a spot that will pay more and i'll be there...
  3. Does it have to be iced? I put them in salt water over night but nothing happened.
  4. Yeah they were a bit, Gem made sure they weren't getting away from the purse nets. I told the butcher just to give us £1 each for them.
  5. After a great day out on Saturday with Jai, I decided to go for a quiet mooch out on my own with half a bag of nets and a ferret on the same land that we were on the day before. I phoned the farmer to let him know that i'd be on again which he was pleased about as he wants the bunnies gone. When I got there I picked up a purse net that we'd forgotten the day before, and then started the walk onto the tops. As I was walking up, the farmers son (about 11) drove down on his quad and asked if I wanted a lift. 'I will do if you're offering' I said, hopping on. He drove me up and after thanking
  6. What a great day it was! Fantastic company and some cracking sport, lovely seeing the dogs work. Jai going to fetch the bunny off Gem The rabbit that he pulled out of the wall... The rabbits sit tight in these walls Joe
  7. Another good read Jai, empty your inbox...
  8. It's been half term this week, and i've been working on a farm seeing lots of pigeons. On Friday night, my mate and I took up my lamp and S200 for a bit of shooting. The pigeons made no attempt at flying away and it was like taking candy from a baby. All 9 were shot, with 1 being stuck on a ledge in the barn. We had a look in the fields surrounding the yard and bagged a rabbit. The next morning we were back, taking 4-5 in the barn before the rest flew off. For the next 30 minutes the pigeons kept coming back in and it wasn't long before we had just over a dozen dotted around the barn
  9. Surprised you know what the words mean...
  10. I met the farmer at 2pm yesterday. I had already planned earlier in the day what time we would meet, and he had said that he would show me some new land up on the fells. After greeting him, I hopped on the back of his quad and we were off. On the way up to the land, he stopped by an open warren of about 20 holes that he wished for me to ferret at some time. We carried on up onto the tops and he pointed out where abouts he wished for me to ferret. Rabbits scattered everywhere, not many going to ground but a few obliged and dived into their subterranean lairs. I got off the quad, and grabbed my
  11. Good write up charlie nelly1, hope you managed ok without me.
  12. Great report Jai, looks like it was definately worth the trip down!
  13. Never done it myself, but for 'hot' places i'd imagine it would be worth a do.
  14. 15?? So how are you able to work that many on a day out? Fair enough if you have work for them like...
  15. Do you mean that you simply breed these ferrets as much as you can, and not work them? What do you mean when you say that they have 10 generations between them?
  16. Why do people keep huge numbers of ferrets? I have 2 jills here, and that is all I need. I used to have 5 at one point, but I soon realised that I didn't have work for them. When I am out on my own, I can only properly work 2 ferrets at a time without being rushed off my feet. And when I am working with others, they have their own ferrets, and so we can use them all at once. I often work my jills for 3 or 4 days conseculatively, and they work just as well on the first as they do on the last. So how many ferrets have you got, and why? Joe
  17. Out again with Patterdale Joel and Charlie Nelly, on some of Joel's permission. Got there and stuck the long net round the first warren which was under a tree. They took some shifting from here but eventually we got 3, 1 having to be dug out. The next warren was purse netted, another 2 were added to the bag from here. We moved on, netting up a few holes along a fence line and a few holes under a tree. One rabbit came out from under the tree after a bit of persuasion via Chalk and Nutjob. The final warren was quite a large one situated around a tree, again this held 1 rabbit which brought t
  18. Nice numbers Tegater, a lot of the warrens you ferret seem to look exactly the same. Must be the lie of the land.
  19. Why not just ring up all the local vets and ask them?
  20. Mine work just as well on a full stomach, and that is why there is rabbit in with them all the time.
  21. This thread here. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/148951-ferret-boxes/ I've got one of his boxes and it's superb. Joe
  22. He wouldn't have got fecking bored if he hadn't stood around doing nothing all day.
  23. Out on the estate again yesterday, doing the open warrens that hold a few bunnies. The grass is kept really short here by the sheep, which makes the netting up very easy. Used the long nets as well, but the wind blew the bagging to one side, and made taking in the long nets a lot harder than it should have been. The wind was an abserloute pain all day. It was just my mate charlie nelly1 for the morning, and then patterdale joel joined us at lunch time, bringing with him his 4 month old beddyxwhippet. Charlie's lab did well, working the reeds really well, managing to peg 2 down that chose t
  24. Course it is Joel, i've ferreted it with you!
