  1. Five minutes from town and your are out in the middle of seemingly nowhere. Love this spot and need see a soul on the footpath, never seen so many hares as this year great to see. Young pup and the gang enjoy this wander more than the others atb. 2. I would be worried if t was my dog personally as she shows no interest jmo but only time will tell. Has she had much joy in the day? As a few easy ones (myxi) brings them on IMO atb
  3. Just read through this thread again good read, and it is interesting to see people's differences on seemingly what bushing actually is? The way I see it is a dog or dogs pushing game out from cover usually for lurcher or gun. Irrelevant of what land you hunt I personally can not see how a collie or such dogs can be classed as bushing dogs mooching yes but not bushing. I work mainly hedgerow and brambles with the terriers we use some of which is very thick stuff. I realise not everyone hunts the same ground, but if it is small game your after (which most seemingly are) then they will inevitably
  4. [/url] The brains The legs Few recent ones atb
  5. Gareth I genuinely have never taught sit stay ly down with this pup down a few retrives now and again but not recently. I suppose it may have been different if he was a bit more roudy type, but just seems to naturally pick things up. He has always been a natural retriever from day one and is constantly picking things up and bringing them to me, in truth in the past with other pups if it had been shoes or other things I didn't want the dogs messing with I would have told them no and just taken them off them. With him I have actually reversed this and give him a bit of praise for just retrieving
  6. I have a whippet x pup at the minute around the same age. I am not into lamping really, he will be tagging along with the older dogs this winter for sure, as my thoughts are he needs to learn basic skills in the field, manners and how to work alongside other dogs. No doubt he will get the odd run but these things happen even when you are just walking your dogs anywhere. Some will criticise this and I accept he is only a pup but in my eyes it's about being sensible about how much work rather than whether to do any or not. I should say though lamping is a different game in my eyes though the sta
  7. Pup shaping up nicely now at about 19tts and13kg at 5 and half months. He has certainly switched on over the last few weeks and has a knack for catching blackbirds in the woods of late having progressed from acrobatics on moths. Very chilled out pup in the main and I forgot how relaxed most sighthounds blooded dogs are having grown up with them a while ago now. His recall is still very good which is pleasing, I know its early days but he seems very eager to please. My other dogs have taken to him which makes matters easier as they all sleep together in the utility. Even the older bouvier seems
  8. Have to admit the lurcher pups advertised as already said look a lovely litter of pups and breed for the right reasons if your in a position To have a pup at the minute i would be straight on the phone and heading down to see that litter atb
  9. Fair point strongbow I suppose what I was asking is do people with more experience think he has thrown bigger being 18.5 at his age or is that about on par for his sire and dam size? I would epect him to make 21tts but that's really based on his parentage alone and not his current size if that make sense cheers
  10. Just after peoples thoughts on how big you reckon the pup will get he is around 18.5 tts at 5 and half months weights 13 kg. his dam and sire were 22 and 21 tts but with a touch of grew in the mix he could obviously throw bigger? Cheers
  11. Just an update, been away for couple of weeks on hols so my old man has had the pup and terrier for me. My old man has a seasoned lurcher so was a good opportunity to watch and learn abit as my dad does a fair bit of day time mooching about. The pup has been slowly switching on over the past month or so watching the others doing abit. He has grown an inch whilst I have been away, a bit on the scrawny side at the minute as he grows upwards but sure he will fill out when fully grown. Really lookin forward to gettin him out in the winter months. He is coming upto 6month old now and it's obviousl
  12. Always liked the look of these little xs but certainly where I hunt a lurcher that enters cover to readily would miss a lot as you need them holding back on the ede of cover whilst the little bushers flush. Not a criticism of these little dogs just my thoughts, I have been out with even some bed x whippets and to be honest whilst they were handy workers they did lack pace atb
  13. My little fella mainly whippet touch of collie and grew in the mix. Only 5 month but looks like he will make about 22tts and be similar build. I am happy with him to date, I was only after a rabbiting dog and this x seemed to fit the bill time will tell for this fella atb
  14. Little cracker looks like its going to have a great coat as well atb
  15. Couple of recent ones of the pup roughly 5 month old, he is just started to switch on to what the others are up to on daily mooches and has started to follow the terrier a little more and not just to annoy her with chases. He actually seems pretty bright and is seemingly taking up good position outside of the cover the terrier works. Caught a young blackbird the other day when out in the woods and I can really start to see the change and him showing an interest in basically anything small he thinks he can chase. He has been a real pleasure to own to be honest and excluding a chewed skirtin
  16. My first official dog was really my dad's dog but as it was brought for my birthday it felt like I owned it but was about 8 at the time. She was a terrier, jrt x fell type, called her Peggy. She was bred by my uncle and I can remember going to see the litter like it was yesterday. We picked her up on my birthday at 7 week old she was a tiny brown red dot. She grew into a good little dog an work alongside my dad's lurchers. She was only allowed in the kitchen but would sneak in to the living room in the evenings and ly underneath my armchair next to the kitchen. I would give her a little stroke
  17. Gangly little prospect for next year 5 months and mad as a box if frogs atb Matt
  18. Gangly little fella is starting to slowly show a bit of interest when mooching in between a ragging the other dogs. Seems to have a bit of pace about him already but absolutely no brakes or control which can be a bit hair raising at times. His coat is actually quiet thick and fairly long across his back which Iam pleased about as hopefully will offer a bit of protection come the winter months. Likeable fella so far and settled in well within the pack, haven't done a lot of training with him in truth just out slowly covering the miles nice and steady socialising and stock breaking. Will do more
  19. Gangly little fella is starting to slowly show a bit
  20. I think it's been said but twice a day for a pup that age isn't enough to keep the weight on I fed my 5 month 3-4 meals a day and he gets as much as he wants to be fair atb with the pup
  21. That's good to here, not hard dogs from my experience but very keen and ideal for bushing and working with the lurchers IMO sure you will have some fun with it atb
  22. Flacko she was flying last season but had an infection after her 2nd season which meant I had to get her spayed (gutted) which obviously knocked her about a bit. She has alot of drive sometimes a little too much for her own good. My old man who has kept terriers all his life and nowadays has a little bushing pack is constantly borrowing her if Iam working so she obviously has some talent did you ever get hold of a pup atb.
  23. Cheers for the comments, he is just a small lurcher I my eyes. Mainly whippet touch of grew and collie further back. In the flesh he is a bit slighter than the photos look and their is more than a hint of saluki about him. To the best of my knowledge their isn't any in the line but who knows. I just liked the parents new a bit about them and they did the job I want of him which is just mooching rabbit dog really atb never really been one for worrying too much about what's in them as long as they have the drive and physique. Went with mainly whippet loos to get the size I was after hopefully ma
  24. Few recent ones of the little fella, not so little now coming on nicely. Training so far so good he seems to have taken to me and is a likeable fella which always helps with training I think. Looking forward to next year get him out mooching around with the others properly atb
