  1. Sorry i meant will the 170 striker filter fit the 170 tracer lamp?
  2. Alright lads just ordered a 170 tracer, all red filters are out of stock, do any you lads know if the light force striker filters fit the tracer 170 lamps?
  3. Wrong time of year to start a pup. Every earth is kicked out and full of scent and going out this time of year will have you doubting your dog.
  4. Well I’m an Englishman and nearly everyone I know in England would let them go. I hate stereotyping because it happens on both sides of the water. Believe it or not it isn’t an Irish thing, it’s a thing you do if your brought up with it. I remember my father telling me of stories when he visited Ireland back in the day and he couldn’t believe his eyes when the irish lads brought the shotgun out at the end of a dig. There’s both types of lads on both sides of the water. It’s more to do with the company you keep. I for one wouldn’t kill a fox, as I find more enjoyment watching them run away.
  5. I’ve learnt that ‘educated game’ can earn that title because the lads that dig them have dogs that will take hold and work hard. Last season I’ve seen some dogs come off very worse for wear and we’ve all agreed that the game must be very educated. We’ve then tipped a steady dog in which knows the score just baying away nothing stupid, and we’ve dug the game without a scratch on the dog. Now if you keep hard dogs and you come across game which won’t submit your gunna call that game educated as you will see the outcome with the dogs wounds but there’s every much chance you will dig it with a ste
  6. i Wish I was as lucky to pick and choose when I work and work around my leisure? work is first for me as I’m not in a position to turn it down. The dogs still get out in the season and I’m passionate about it them. I’m not passionate about my job but needs must and won’t shy away from it. I don’t understand why you’d even want to question someone’s heart in the game. Half the lads in this game who hunt 4, 5 days a week don’t have their heart in the game, it’s mostly ego and money. Whereas the man who works all week so he can get out and enjoy the country with there dogs on a weekend, their hea
  7. A couple of days a week out with the dogs during the season is enough for me, anymore and I wouldn’t get anything done and I wouldn’t have enough dogs ?
  8. I don’t know about most patts as they don’t have the two coats a border has but a border that is clipped won’t keep its course outer coat and it will grow back soft. All the black dogs I’ve been around have been cut with the clippers and they don’t suffer the cold.
  9. I think it’s just by chance if your lucky that the fox favourites a place. Used to try plenty but there was always one where foxes in the area would favour it over any natural earths, once bolted 3 out of a little 2 holes that was in the shape of a T. The entrances doubled over in a u shape to stop draughts blowing in. And it was only a few inch deep with flags to cover it. Handy isn’t the word ?
  10. Great footage and filming. You can tell that the lad with the specs isn’t used to walking about the country, he’s all over the place ? 4 lads in a dig with 3 sets of tongs for a fox.... it’s a shame a decent lad in Britain or Ireland couldn’t film what he does and how simple, effective and efficient it is with one man and his baying terrier. Would make a change from sick videos off of Facebook and videos of backward foreign practises.
  11. Sounds a handy cross, hopefully bring on a lurcher myself, had a kind offer off a lad who has helped me source a pup before so I’m looking forward to the summer too ?
  12. Did only two lads create the black terrier and did all blacks started from their yards? I’m sure lads all over the country where crossing bulls with fell terriers and producing rough and smooth haired black dogs, which in turn they bred and replicated all around the same time as buck and breay did, or even before. It was a time before the internet and plenty of lads would have gone unnoticed especially lads who didn’t attend the shows, work for hunts or go in a book. Just a thought.
  13. What’s the surname or initials? Might know him ?
  14. Nothing wrong with reading them and I agree there should be books, I’ve read loads of them and want to read more. I think I didn’t word it correctly, what I meant was I couldn’t admire someone because they’re in a book or famous, anyone in that category is happy to be in the limelight and I can’t admire a person like that, not that there’s anything wrong with it, but that’s just me, I hate to idolise. The only person I admire in the terriers would be my father as he showed me the ropes.
  15. Anyone famous, is famous or in a book because they’ve strived to be and want attention? Like what’s been said, anyone who keeps a family of dogs and works them to a high standard without making money out of it deserves respect.
  16. I don’t see anything weird about it to be honest, If a lad is making 5 figures a year from litters of pups, sure he isn’t working all his dogs and testing them before he is breeding them. I know for a fact he was breeding from other dogs and passing them on as his breeding.
