A modern take on an old classic! I was given this old Mk5 BSA Super Meteor by a mate, he has owned it since about 1983 when he was a teenager. It has been in his cupboard ever since. He bought it second hand, so I am guessing at about 1980 year of manufacture. It was in good nick, apart from a snapped stock, which has been solidly repaired but meant that I could not give it a natural finish, hence the camo paint job. Its not a good idea to keep your jills together if they are pregnant. You should split them up well before they give birth, especially if they are first time mothers. They will build a nest shortly before giving birth, and will need a darkish, protected area to do this. If they feel insecure, they will often kill and eat the kits, especially first time mums. If you leave them together, and there is a gap in time when they give birth, there is a chance that the pregnant one will take over the others kits, and when she gives birth to her own then she will again probably kill both litters, or

You can always tell your boss that ferrets are basically polecats, that have been domesticated and tamed, for the purpose of hunting rabbits. The ferret is about 2,000 years old at least, and just like every other domesticated animal, was bred for a purpose. Dogs for many forms of hunting, cats to catch mice and ferrets for bolting rabbits and other vermin. Tell him to google it..... animals were used for hunting food, long before we could just pop into Tesco.... What a cock-end!

I can't reccomend anywhere specific mate, but I can say there are loads of places in and around Orpington/Sevenoaks. When you are out and about having a mooch, keep your eyes open for warrens. Try and gain permission from farmers/landowners, or see if any of the big houses in that area need rabbits cleared from their garden. There is loads of common land and woodland about, which are secluded and quiet, with loads of rabbits about. I am in Tonbridge mate, so I know the area quite well. All the best with it. Dave.

nice to see a stafford being used for something constructive today this loving breed needs a new purpose in life. after read this i may try 1 of mine instead of looking at getting 1 of the usual breeds. thanks You just have to watch him he can get a bit nippy with the ferrets but will warn you pal they get like bombs onces there on something there on it till the end make good bulldoozers too never mind go round it go though it I take my 2 staffs with me when I go ferreting, they both mark well. They will chase any bolters, and 75% of the time they will catch them. They love -

Both myself, and my daughters boyfriend are new to ferreting, and are learning as we go. This season has been our first, and had some good days out, and some not so good ones. My question is, what are the problems with stop ends? Is it the ferret being caught between dead rabbit and dead end? Or rabbit running up to dead end with ferret killing it and maybe laying up? I have not had any problems with this yet, ferrets have always come out. I use collars also. Excuse my ignorance, but I would like to hear the thoughts of you experienced guys out there......Merry Xmas.

I do 8,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10,9,8,8. At 2 1/4" meshes. Gives a shaped net 21 meshes long. Works for me mate.

Think I am right in saying, it's illegal to disturb a badger set..... I would not put my ferrets into a set either!

I would say, as long as they all get along, 4 to 6 ferrets in a court that size. I have 4 ferrets in a 5ft long x 2ft wide x 5ft high, they got plenty of room, and I can divide in half to separate hobs from jills when in season.

Dont want to confuse you further, but if you go on youtube and type "how to make a purse net", there is a 40 min video of a geordie lad, talking through and demonstrating the whole process. I got a kit from agouti, and after a few feck ups, I got it using the video on pause. Made 6 nets so far, and got a rabbit on saturday with one of my nets, it's a good feeling! So stick at it mate, you wont be disappointed... All the best with it.

Rabbits see in monochrome (black and white), so the colour dont matter. The reason they are brightly coloured is so they are easily seen by you. So you dont leave any nets behind, when you've finished. Hope this helps mate... happy hunting!

Forgot to mention...... You have checked that the jill, isnt a hob, and just taken your friends word for it. Dont mean to sound like Im being funny to you, but its easy overlooked if you,ve only been told its a jill. Might explain the size and its behaviour. All the best. Dave.

As she is a young ferret, its probably rough play, and the older jills will put her in her place. If it is going beyond rough play, and the ferrets are drawing blood or scratched up, then definately split them up. If it were me I would presevere with it, and keep a good eye out on them. Like I said, she is only young, and will learn from the other jills. Ferrets are social animals, so I think it will be better all round to try and get them to get on. Especially if you are thinking of working her with the others. Hope this helps and good luck with it mate. Dave.

They may be mentally ill, but they seem to do a good job of sorting out the ferrets, at least they have something positive to focus their attention on and doing a bit of good, no matter how mad they appear to us... As for the tranny.... He must of struggled with his sexuality for years, so no wonder he is a little fcuked up. Lets not forget he served his country, and fought in the Falklands War. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is no joke either guys!! As an ex-soldier, I do have a bit of sympathy for the person.

Just get him used to your hands by picking him up a lot and stroking him, if you pick him up right, that is, hand over the top and fingers either side of the front legs, and support the rump, he should not be able to bite. If he goes for your fingers then let go of the rump, so he hangs and can't turn his head to bite. Its easier with an adult ferret of course but their bite is much harder and more painful. As for being bitten by your kit, there are a few ways to stop it. Either push your finger into its mouth towards the throat (not too hard) it does not like it and will soon get the mess

Ferrets are social animals, that live in groups called "a business". Your hobs and jills should be fine together mate. Just remember to split them up before mating season, unless you have a vasectomised hob or want kits.

Happened to one of my jills last year. As long as your ferret is behaving normally and playful, I wouldnt worry too much. It will grow back.
