  1. at least with a helicopter it can hover above you. how the hell can a plane be of any use? It needs to keep moving.
  2. Thanks for the replys guys. I actually got a good reply frmo Pennymeadow whi;ppets on the whippet forum. He advised to go somewhere were there are no rabbits and lamp a dummy. Get her running down the beam and retrieving the dummy straight away for a month or so them try her on rabbits. Sounds good to me.
  3. It's been nearly six years since I have had to start a pup lamping and was looking for a wee bit of advice because I've never had this before. Basically I have a pup who is about 8 months old and reasonably well trained. She will sit, lie stay and her recall is good if there are no distractions. So, I decided to take her out for a wee shine with the lamp last night and after giving her a wee warm up behind my house I put her on the lead and headed for our local golf course. I selected a rabbit to try her on and she saw it and was slipped. Came very close to it but it made for cover. I
  4. Saw a collie x whippet today. not what I expected at all!! Just looked like a small collie. I had read that the collies are heavy boned and it needed to be crossed with a grehound to carry the frame. It was a pet and very well trained but don't think they would be mucth use as hunting dogs. I have also seen a GSD cross whippet in the past but it was alot more racey looking. Very well trained and looked like it could be a usefull cross. Not that i would buy either for work but just wondered if anyone had seen them work?
  5. Hi Tyson, How do you find her obediance wise? does she return straight away or does it just depend on her?
  6. Hi bud, was your dog 1 of 5 born on 16 feb 1998? If so you may have a litter sister to mine. Also, I may well have met you when you collected the pup.
  7. well said, I agree it sounds very far fetched but I just had a wee chuckle to myself and thought "what a fanny". But it has no effect on me what so ever so I certianly wont loose any sleep over it and would take what ever he says in the future with a pinch of salt. People who lie about thier dogs abilities and there adventures in thre field always get found out. They either forget what they said a few weeks ago and contradict themselves or never back up there stories by showing people what their dogs can do. It's always to far to travel or they cant make a certian night. Look at S
  8. So why are they not suitable then? Someone must have a guenuine sensible answer?
  9. I don't have a terrier but used to have a Plummer from Legion Kennels. I paid £300 for her and bought her for ratting / rabbiting. I don't dig foxes but am very intrested in digging and respect the guys who are out there doing it. £300 is alot of money for a terrier but I don't have a problem paying that if I get what I want. And i got what I wanted, a ratting dog. She was great with kids and a nightmare with other dogs. Not being a digging man myself I was wondering why they wouldn't be any use as digging dogs? I don't know enough to have an opinion on the subject but I cert

  12. Hi, my wife and i are looking to purchase another whippet puppy. My current whippet is roughly 6 months old and we will be looking to get another bitch sometime over the next few months. I have e-mailed a few breaders to see if the have anything but if anyone hears of anything please let me know. On here or PM, I don't mind. Dog will be racing in the summer / lamping and ferreting in the winter and will have a home for life. Must be KC reg for racing club. Cheers Stewart.

  14. Cheers bud. I think to many people get hung up on what others think. I used too but now i just do my own thing and have my own opinions. If people don't like my views tough. I wont try and change their views on working dogs and hope that they would respect my opinion.
  15. Does anyone use this prior to working their dogs? If so what brand etc and does it work? I was someone using it at the whippet racing last week and wondered if it was any good.
  16. Seriously though, Who cares what people think about Hancock. My 3/4 bread was killed in the field about 6 months ago. Always gave 100 perent and I was happy with her. Would i have another? - Defenatly. I curently have a whippet pup and hope tp get another lurcher in the future and will go back to hancock. Every one is entitled to their opinion. If someone doesn't agree it does not mean they are wrong. They just have another opinion.
  17. I thinks we should get Hancock to cross his stud dog with a Minshaw (genuine) then breed it back to one of plumbers alaunts.
  18. Bought a copy. Arrived next working day. Excellent read and some very good points. Found Mike Browns interview very intresting. Would recomend.
  19. Pure whippet for me. My pup's 5 months old now and i can't complain. Looking forward to getting her out ferreting, lamping and of course - Hare coursing  I like the fact that i can work her all winer and race her in the summer. My last dog was a 3/4 gry 1/4 collie from Hancock and i was more than happy with her. Unfortunatly she was killed out working just after i got the pup. Still missing her, but life goes on. Wouldn't have not worked her if i could go back - She loved it and was born to run!!!!
  20. Don't bother asking, if you dont ask they can't say no. I have no permission but do a fair bit of work and providing you are careful it's easy to avoid being caught.
  21. You should PM "itallion stallion" He had a litter of pups. HGe had some dog pups left when I got mine but they may be gone. A genuine bloke with well bred whippets. Laguna / Nimrod lines I think they were. My bitch is 12 weeks old and a wee cracker.
  22. This is my kennel at work. My boss lets me bring the dog in to work every day. She's like a company mascot now. It's great for socilising her. There's always someone out playing with her. I just bought the wood from my local b & q. I could have went to the was mill but I didn't have time to mess around. My dad and I built it a few weeks ago and it cost about £110 for all the wood. The run is 16 ft long x 6 ft wide x 51/2 ft tall. The box is 4 ft wide by 4 ft long x 31/2 ft high. Its perfect for what I need. She lives in the house at home. To save money on the wood, we bolted i
  23. Why not go for a pure whippet? I've bought one and am training her through the summer. Don't see why a 3/4 whippet 1/4 grey would perform any better.
  24. I bought a whippet pup a few weeks ago from "Itallion stallion" and I am over the moon with her but it's been 5 years since I had a puppy and I forgot how mutch trouble they can cause. Nothing is safe. Kids toys, socks, tv remote - nothing. She has more energy than any other pup I have ever had. Training wise she is coming on reasonable. She sits on comand (sometimes) and I am getting there with the lead training. She gets her next jag this sat so I can get her out for wee walks soon. She also is retrieving alot better than I had expected. Cant wait to get her on the bu
