my 2 jills are due to pop this week. they don't look too big though, so i'm just hoping the old hob did the business one is almost certainly pregnant, she's getting nippy, a bit rounder, and her & the hob seemed to shag non-stop for the 3 days they were together. the other jill, i'm not so sure about, all her & the hob did for 3 days was try to escape oh well, fingers crossed

i can't say i've seen any in my garden this year... but i have a colony of wild bees, and they seem pretty healthy. i wish i knew where the sodding hornets nest is, they keep getting in my house!

in the "average - ginger" category?

i keep my ferrets in pairs, boys together, my old jill & my youngest (castrated) boy together, and my 2 stray jills in together. the 2 jills have a bottle on their hutch, the boys have a 1.2 litre bottle on their hutch because they tip a bowl over within minutes of it going in. one of the boys sticks his head under the water, then takes it out, and flips the bowl. the old girl & the youngster have a bowl, as they're both civilized enough to not tip it. trial end error, really. the 1.2 litre bottle is damn handy, as the boys will empty a normal bottle in a day or so.

Yep!!! I have never been to Ireland, always promised myself i would go......so befor i get bogged down with my next venture, I will be on one of those ferry's.xxx you'll love it but avoid men with wonkey eyes who talk non-stop. if you meet one, RUN! you may end up being inducted into a weird religious cult.

has she had both rounds of shots? make sure. it's been years since i've had a puppy jabbed, but don't the first lot get done at 8 weeks, and the next at 12? better safe than sorry. one tip i'll give you, once she's had all her jabs, take her out with you all over the place. get her well socialised, used to sights & sounds, take her out in the car & get her used to being left in it for short periods of time. i got my boy at 7 months, he'd been in a car 4 times before i got him... he's a terrible passenger

start soaking the cat biscuits, a bit more water each time. so, they're kinda crunchy to start with, then softer after a week or so. then try mixing in a little bit of beef mince. gradually add more over the course of a week. he'll soon get used to it. or go for the quick approach... don't feed him for a day or two, then give him some mince. if he's hungry enough, he'll eat anything!

how far north? i'll be homeless in a couple of weeks, where should i move to?

gyp has gone off wood now, thankfully. he gnawed the windowsill next to my bed, the bottom of a folding chair that i got from mum (which she'd had since the seventies... whoops!), and he chewed the wooden case on my 100 year old Singer sewing machine... now he's into foam... washing-up sponges, cushions, and he destroyed one of the seat cushions off my sofa. touch wood ( ), it's been a while since he's done it. i shoved a bit of foam in his gob, and smacked him round the head. sounds harsh, but it worked, and he's not touched a bit of foam since. i was running out of things to sit on!

i remember that one!

I noticed a lot of topics asking the same questions about hanging, so i thought i'd get my arse in gear & type a guide up. i lifted this from a book i have, called "The Sporting Wife - Game and Fish Cooking". The book was published in 1971, so some of the game listed below is off the menu, but i have included them for curiosity value (and roadkill is still a legal eat ). I hope this is helpful: Hanging The real purpose of hanging game is to enable the fibres of the flesh to break down and decompose so that the meat will be more tender. I

robbing from the rich to give to the poor? i'm broke & soon to be homeless...

hmm... Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depps missus. or Jill McCormick, Eddie Vedders missus. or Robert Plant, circa '71. so i could front Led Zeppelin for a gig.

springer x lurcher? my dream dog but anyways... it may seem like hassle, but seperating the dogs isn't really that hard. and it doesn't meant they can't spend some time together, you just have to keep a close eye on them. my dad has never had a dog neutered or a bitch spayed, and barring that one little slip-up when our saluki x grey got to mums beddy/whippet x grey (we hadn't noticed she was just coming into season), in 30-odd years, he's had no accidents. although we did have a JR dog make an attempt on a 26" lurcher bitch. which was rather entertaining to watch dad has a few lurche

used to go through all the subforums, starting with running dogs, then heading down through ferrets, general talk, classifieds, Health, and cooking. now i just hit "view new posts", and scan through til i find something that interests me. saves hours

Really sorry to hear that LB. you've done some cracking work for them dogs. it'd be pretty interesting to go through the forum & figure out how many dogs you've taken in from here, and how many people have had dogs from you. a fair few, i should think. but how are you going to get the forums menfolk to rush to the aid of the damsel in distress now?

laying on the grass with my dog, by the lurcher show ring at the east anglian game fair, an old beardy bloke gave me 2 free copies of the CMW. handing them out for a promotional thing. the plastic bags they came in were dashed handy for picking up Gyps shit. and the paper fits quite neatly into the cats litter tray i remember reading it when i was a kid, 10 - 15 years ago. it actually had some useful & readable articles. now? only good for the above.

exactly what i was thinking. ex-track dogs can be strange creatures to say the least... christ knows what a 3 year old dog that hasn't been socialised would think of a tiny baby. my mum grew up with my grandads & great grandads track dogs, she slept in the back of the van with them on the way back from Yarmouth dog track. but these dogs were bred by my family, and grew up with kids. most greyhounds aren't reared like that, as i saw when my dad worked at a kennels years ago. i, personally, would not take the chance with a young child around. if you're going to keep the dog permanently ken

:welcome: i wouldn't worry, you're no worse than me! 1 lurcher, 1 snake, 6 ferrets (2 pregnant), 1 cat & 3 kittens they'll be nice to you if you don't post anything silly. otherwise, they'll eat you alive
