  7. Thanks for the reasoned reply martin and the rabi's doing the cutting went to great pains to explain how good they were, but the point is if we ( the great unwashed) have to stun our animals before blood letting then why is there an exception that is contrary to accepted animal welfare standards just because of some archaic religious belief? Surely in our society we adhere to accepted practices regarding the treatment of animals prior and during slaughter so why are there exceptions? it really is one rule for them and another for the rest of us. I take your point regarding the dexterity of t
  8. Went out to the New Forest for my first ever stalking trip this morning, still tired now haha.....up at 0300hrs and in the high seat at 0530hrs.there was a hard frost and a very clear sky,the woods were absolutely teaming with pheasants, and,I was tingling with excitement.the stalker had a gsp and it was pulling hard on the lead, and, seemed to know where he was going. As we stopped at the high seat, the dog just led down and went to sleep. We climbed up,and made ourselves comfy,in a very roomy german style wooden double high seat.I was being shown around the estate on this occassion, and,I was very i

  10. As a slaughterman for well over 20yrs,I would just like to say that, for people that know very little about the actual act of humane slaughtering then,to see a jewish(Kosher)slaughter is to see a person with an immense amount of skill at work, and, they do take an immense amount of pride in their work, which is something that is sadly lacking woth most of our workers.I always thought that both Halal and Kosher slaughtering techniques were archaic, but, when you witness them first hand, the skills of these people are without question 'TOP NOTCH'!! And,sadly I have seen a hell of a lot of our own slaug

    for keeps

Well Moley,it takes a big man to say he is wrong and apologise so well done!
  17. You are obviously right Len,when we are out ferreting or dogging or even shooting,we are always at risk of spreading this terrible disease. All we can do is dispose of any carcases appropriately(burial/burning)and,deflea our animals when we have been on a ground that has any mixy(not sure how VHD is spread to be honest).I personally deflea my ferts all the time ....mixy or not.We have to be vigilant, when we see or kill a mixy rabbit, but,I know some people just sling them in the hedge....well all that is doing is spreding it again........wise up people we are sometimes our own worst enemy

  19. Hi Robbie,I have a Mike Brown Pup(19wks),and,I cannot reccommend Mike highly enough,he is a fantastic bloke with a wealth of knowledge, and,he knows whippets inside out.Do you know which of his whippets you would be getting one out of.Mine's sire is 'GLEN' & the Dam is 'MEG'........here she is,as I said 19wks and just over 18" tts................. She is as BOLD as you could imagine, and, has a very high prey drive, and I can't wait to be able to get her out on a few rabbits, maybe early next year sometime..........hope this has been of some help for you, and, please keep us informed as

    Lamps

Hi Kay,I am guessing that you want it to go with your air rifle,so,do you want to carry the lamp seperately or do you want to attatch it to the scope of the rifle? If you want it to fit to the scope then I would suggest the Deben tracer which is ultra light and is perfect for use with an air rifle, and you can get away with a much smaller battery. You don't ned the extra candle power and range that the lightforce etc. will give you, because you will be lamping relatively closely.I use a Deben Tracer Max for use with my air rifle and it is excellent, but,I do use the Lightforce 170 on my rimfire, whi

  22. Here is 'Ula' she is 19wks yesterday, and she is just slightly over 18" TTS,and the question I want to ask,is......does anyone have any kind of idea(in your opinion)what sort of size she will make when fully grown. She is a 'Mike Brown' working whippet, and, she is KC registered. Her grandsire was the legendary 'Sooty Sam' and,at the moment she is growing like a weed!So.........any ideas people(I won't hold you to them).....martin.
