I don't think a lurcher would have been the best supplier of food when times were hard to be honest, it would be another mouth to feed. I know my grandad lived through hard times and he was a well known poacher. Got most of his game using snares.

I've lost 3 over the years in the field mate, not a good feeling It's the nature of the game mate, I reckon more people will have lost a running dog in action than will not have, sad as that sounds. How come Lab? What is so difficult about finding dead game? My dog can smell a deer 1/2 a mile away, nose in the air.... I agree what Malt says, it would be hard to teach a lurcher not to catch but flush, but dead game finding, don't see a big difference mate. Share your knowledge and explain please if you can and don't mind. Its not the dead game thats the problem its the runners that are. Now if you can teach your lurcher to go out maybe 2/3 hundred yards then it can use its nose then i'd like to see it. Then i'd like to see it go the same distance back in a wood and return with a bird

Ok, I was wrong to call you guys faggots, was aimed more at toby who you'll never convince me isn't a faggot. Look, I know the saluki is the best dog for you guys, you wouldn't have them otherwise. What gets up my goat(he tells me this often) is the way you lot think the fens is the be all end all. I'm not saying it isn't a perfect place to run a hare for money cos it is. If we could make a man made betting arena for hare coursing, you'd be hard pushed to build somewhere better. But I'm old fashioned mate. I like hunting hares and seeing a good course where the hare has as good a chance of esc

The dog should show an interest in the burrows, a f*****g rabbit is hiding in there, the smell must be lovely to them lol. I'd be more worried if it didn't to be honest.
