  1. I loved working collies for daytime rabbiting, but i would be very careful about the one i picked, all mine have been from working stock, but some just have that little something that shines above the rest. If you have plenty of game around then i dont think you would have too much of a problem, but where i work my dogs there isnt that much about and thats when you can really tell the difference between the workers that get distracted and find something else to do as apposed to the ones that live for finding that elusive scent. Its really strange, but they do from my experience fall in to one c
  2. Bit off track, but one of the best dogs ive had for working cover was my little border collie bitch......(a rescue dog), she was only small, but obviously bigger than all the jack russells ive worked. An amazing little grafter, amazed me how she managed to work the tight cover more successfully than the jacks. If she knew there was something in certain bushes, she sort of knew which way to hit the bush to push the rabbit out in her favour. I used to lamp her as well..had some fun sport. She's the little collie in the pic, i really miss my old rabbiting team.
  3. Cheers waidmann and stalker for your advice, its not cheap buying a good pair of wellies, but well worth it if you find the right pair. Thanks again
  4. Nothing to do with nettles?
  5. Hi all, Just bought a pair of Aigle iso wellingtons, size 10.5 (the ones with the neoprene lining), thought they would be the same dimensions as the ones they do without the lining (parcours), but no its like they have taken their standard sizes and just added the lining to them making them much tighter. Its a bloody nitemare trying to take them off, had cramp in my calf twice now trying to take them off. I previously ordered a pair of Toggi wanderer plus, but had to return them because the moulding had a deep imperfection in them which could have split, much wider fitting than the Ai
  6. Lovely dogs, and lawn. Are they dogs are bitches, because its hard trying to keeping a lawn that nice when a bitch pees on it.
  7. Nice looking bitch mate, whats the breeding?
  8. Funny what you mention about the questionable breeding of some rescued dogs....i was recently walking my bunch when i got talking to a lady with her newly aquired rescued pup...about 6 months old,,, it was by all accounts 75% staffordshire or the like, couldnt believe that she told me its nearly a full labrador or so the kennels told her.....wow.
  9. Talking of size, bed/whip X collie/whip/whip bitch pup, at moment 21 weeks is 16 inch,,,,,,what you think she'll make.....about 18? thanks
  10. Price of a lurcher pup is a funny thing, i recently was on the look out for one and the prices ranged dramatically. The thing is that most people i talked to charging these amounts were full of it, few were geniune people....most not even keeping one back. If you can find a genuine person who has bred a litter and is selling a good pup thats been brought up correctly then its worth a couple of hundred. Thats not to say that you wont find a genuine person selling them for less. I thought buying a pup was going to be fun, it turned out to be a pain in the neck. If you dont know the person sellin
  11. Lets us know how you get on with it. Ive seen one of those led lensers (m14) in action, very small and really powerfull, great for small fields, but not everybodies cup of tea.
  12. I cant understand why the beardie isnt much more widely used used in the make up of rabbiting lurchers..., they have so many good attributes to add.

  14. D.Sleight, had some sdvertised in the countrymans weekly about 2 to 3 months back.........some 5/8 greyhound 3/8 kelpie, think there were two dog pups advertised.
  15. is (colliejohn) on there ,? as dont think he goes on any other sites no more .? Pretty sure he is on there.
  16. Good luck, getting into the freemasons would be easier though.
  17. Good video pal and a lovely looking dog. Thanks
  18. Tell you what i was recently looking for a pup and the prices some people were asking was gob smacking. Its right was has been said though, if they dont sell they soon come down. I looked at a litter of 3/4 whippet/greyhound 1/4 collies....and i would have bought one, but he wanted quite a bit more for the bitches, i haggled (like i always do, not to insult but get a fair price), but he wouldn't budge on the price...one month on he'd only sold one of the bitches. Everybody i dealt with wanted a small fortune.....most were not even keeping a pup. In the end got one for £ off a bloke who was br
  19. Hi all, got myself the above breed of lurcher pup, about 16 weeks at present, just wondering if anybody else has or is working this cross and how you found it, what size it turned out etc........ Just got it as a little daytime mooching rabbiting bitch. Thanks...pics below
  20. Collie/greyhounds back off! You obviously didnt get the right mix. Was it from a working strain collie. Colliegreys will hunt for mile after mile on the hardest and most stubborn terrain, from the flats to rugged monutain tops, i havent heard the likes of such garbage that a colliex would back off from a hedge!! As for your bitza pup sniffing the ground. Its 11weeks old man, its a big world out there, its learning, getting its footing wether it be a lurcher or a shitty westhighland white, all pups sniff the floor!! The only descent thing to come out of this is you deciding that whippet
  21. I work some terriers ,,,,good little dogs, but if you like it quiet i wouldnt touch a terrier...not even a beddy.
  22. Had both, and enjoyed working both, but the combination of the two working together takes some beating. Some collie/greyhounds may back off near the hedges and it can be frustrating, but on the other hand can save you visiting the vets (mine does it), i would never call her a poor specimen, just sensible...not everybodies cup of tea. I have just got another puppy, shes bedlington/whippet x collie/greyhound/whippet....something like this would suit you well. To me a lurcher has a bit more too it than a whippet. My bitch is only 11 weeks old, but even at this age you want to see her using her no
