Cheers all, Her health is bang on, wormed to date etc, theres nothing physically wrong with her.....she's just a whinger...think she likes the sound of her own voice. I will definitely try her with tripe, something i haven't thought of. She does eat, just not with the gusto all my other dogs have in the past. Im used to dogs trying to get as much food as they can and then some,,,,never had a laid back dog when it comes to feeding time, but i suppose there all different. Main thing is she's fit and healthy. Thanks

Hi all, got a new pup a few weeks ago, she's a lovely little thing, mixture of whippet/bed/collie/grey, but she's like no other pup i have kept before. I have never known a pup winge and whine like her, to the point she will just look at me and whine, walk over to her breast of lamb winge and walk away.....and she can howl for britain. Anyway when she winges/whines i just leave her too it and go back to her when she stops, up to know there's little progress, but hopefully she will stop..after all she is only 11 weeks. Now to the point, all pups i have owned through my life have had a g

A nice honest account...

i Just put a a sheet or two of news paper down, when he pees put him on it, he'll soon pick the idea up. I then move paper closer to back door. Each time he goes i say the word, ''business'',. Take him out to pee as much as you can. Eventually he will go to the door or let you know one way or another that he needs to go out,,,just watch him for the signals. Hope this helps.

More than most lurchers.......

Worked border collies day and night and all i can say is a border collie has not got the speed to catch a daytime rabbit bolted from bushes over a field here in south yorkshire.....havent got the speed....end of, but if it is a short chase from bush to bush or through woods then yes its possible. I used to lamp two collies together had great sport.

Lovely looking pup. Don't know if your interested or a member already, but theres the working bedlington site......has a section for beddy lurchers as well... Here's a link..... http://www.workingbedlington.co.uk/index.php

Wellingtons..muck boots, aigle etc
canaliculata replied to canaliculata's topic in Hunting Boots & Clothing
Cheers all, very interesting. -
Hi, just wondering if anybody has got any experience of muck boots or any other good wellington that they feel they would recommend. I have used Aigle for the last few years,,,,found them good, but my mother has invested in some toggi wellingtons with the neoprene lining and says there much better than her old pair of aigles. Any comments appreciated.

Whippets are good rabbiting dogs, not too good for hanging around for long periods in cold damp windy conditions...ok if on the move in most weather though. One BIG thing that puts me off whippets is quite a few end up dead through running into walls or trees....and this still happens when there worked around them from a young age.....some people call it drive.. . Dont get me wrong i love whippets, but id sooner have a lurcher thats got a bit more up stairs and better skin.

Cheers for posting

Is that it in your avitar? Has it got barnesmore whippet in it.....the colour looks similar? Just asking because i know sombody with a whippet of that breeding and its the most temperamental dog i have come across when off the lead, really funny with men...talked to somebody else on here with one and his is very similar.

Never had a days problem with any of my dogs dew claws....have you had a lot of problems with yours in the past?

His new beardie 'wilson' is from working stock....arthur seems to be throwing out some good uns... I know he gets slagged for puppy farming, but the amount of litters i have seen of a late from private sellers have been rubbish...and most of them havent even been keeping a puppy....just breeding for money. Definitely go worker to worker though, just got to be very careful who you end up getting one off. Can be good mooching dogs. My old beardie/border xgreyhound (7/8th greyhound) was a belter in my eyes.

Vets and worming...advise....puppy
canaliculata posted a topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Phoned the vets this morning to ask if i could pop in and buy some worming tablets/suspention for my new puppy, usually i would wait until the injections, but i as i said i wanted to buy some now. The receptionist said i couldnt buy any from them without prior appointment with the vet, which generally would cost me an extra £15/20 just to see the vet. I said ok, i will locate some elsewhere.....she said if theres anything wrong with your dog you should bring it in.....which i explained there isnt, i just want to get some worming tablets. So just wondering if anybody could help advise me wh -

Cheers all, Dougall, that looks a lovely dog. Ive always fancied a bit of beddie in a lurcher, something i have yet to try. Its great to see how everybody has there own preferences, some saying a bit of saluki, others...dont touch it. Im going to keep my eyes open and see whats coming up, like i said, im no rush...just trying to make the right decision. Can't wait. Thanks

Acuspell, thankyou very much for that. That was very helpful. What you described is what i ideally want, so around the 21 -22inch, and it is mainly rabbits im after. I did very recently find a good litter of this description, but unfortunately there were only dogs left, which i was still tempted with, if only i had seen it advertised sooner. Im just going to keep looking, fortunately im in no rush. Thanks, canaliculata

Whip x grey, sorry for any confusion... all i do now days is go out in the day with a flask of tea ,a few sandwiches and my rusksack, bushing and mooching for rabbits . The couple of terriers i have do the bushing, the lurcher assists, but basically does the chasing and a little catching. My lurcher is a bit long in the tooth now at nearly 10, but she's still going to come out with me along as she's able to. She's a collie/grey first cross. Fairly quick and rubust, but gets easily distracted when theres not much happening. My next dog needs to, ideally, work its nose well, be quick over a shor
