Poacher 3161, how is your bed lurcher getting on? Was it bed/whip/grey x whip/grey. I was possibly thinking lurcher to lurcher, but i here there can be a lot of variation size wise....and its making me a bit wary. There was a litter of ...dam collie/grey x collie/grey/saluki.... sire bed/whip, but a lot of variation in the litter, the bitch been the biggest..... i was tempted, its not having such mixed breeding before made me a bit wary, but i thought it might do the job ok. What you think

Just wondering what would be your choice for a daytime mooching dog. Im hoping to buy a bitch, but dont want anything too big, lets say 24inch and under. Must be good at using its nose and be able of the odd longer run. Have to be quite quick off the mark to catch them around the areas i work...smallish fields. I know worker to worker ect.....but what would be your preferred choice. Cheers

I couldnt understand it around me a few years ago. I mean theres not that many rabbits anyway, but literally over a few weeks it was like 'where have all the rabbits gone', not been the same since.....no signs of mixy or anything, baffled me.

Thankyou everybody for that. All taken on board. Canaliculata

Hi all, been a while since i got a puppy, im possibly thinking of getting one soon and i want to be prepared the best i can. Any advice you can give regarding what you would suggest feeding from 8weeks on would be helpful. My adult dogs are not on a competely raw diet. I usually give them a complete food with meat or fish in etc. Any suggestions of good puppy mixers etc and anything else you can think of would be great. Thanks all.

Collie greyhound or bedlington whippet??
canaliculata replied to NaTiiVe's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Id be thinking along the lines of collie/greyhound x whippet or if i was going down the beddie route 3/4 whippet 1/4 bed or bed/grey x whippet. All though saying that in all fairness never owned a beddie lurcher, but i would want something a bit taller than the first cross bed/whip, would be a bit more handy for lamping, although a first cross would do it. I have found collie crosses good all round rabbiting dogs, my current half cross is now nine and a half, very sensible bitch. Just make sure you get it off good stock. What about a whippet? -
Top news that.

Somethings obviously not right, lets face it a dog that loves to chase isnt suddenly going to do it half heartedly for no reason. Must be not fully recovered. Sometimes lurchers are just treated as machines and expected to do a job without hesitation, most do, so when a dog reacts like this alarm bells should be ringing.

Teckels are great working dogs.

Sorry to hear it pal.

Does bull improve the mix....???
canaliculata replied to canaliculata's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Ive never seen the need for it myself in a mouching dog, but i cant believe the amount of lurcher pups ive looked at recently that have not stated bull in their breeding, but there obviously is. I have heard a few people say, like ''bullyx'', that they are really good at working there nose. -
Hi all,, i cant get away from bull lurchers....they obviosly have a strong following for a reason.... I dont have a problem with them, its just ive never had bull in my lurchers before. I have been looking at litters of pups for my next mouching dog, all i want is to catch rabbits/pheasants, i used to catch the odd hunted up hare before the ban. So this is what has been happening.....just about most of the litters of pups i look at have a bit of bull in them.....all the owners have said, no pal.....no bull in this....who the hell do they think there kidding. Right, so all i want to kn

I dont really care how many pups have gone before i pick mine, if i wasnt happy i wouldn't buy. The bigger problem im having at the moment is finding someone who is genuine. I never thought it would be this hard. My previous two lurchers were from hancock, the whippet and collies i never put too much thought in to who i bought them off as i was a young lad, but now i thought i'll try i different route to hancock....ie worker to worker, but the thing is im a bit of a loner and go out alone so dont as such have any contacts. Well to say many of the adverts are misleading is an understatemen

Thanks all, keeping my eyes open at the moment. I did consider a whippet, but my goodness they know how to charge for them.
