  1. again agouti, bought some not long back and the rings are thick solid and welded so are ideal...
  2. sorry no pics but i go on a farm with lots of horse paddocks and the rest crop fields so is all hedgerow, and a golf course/fishing lake which were hedgerow but have been cut down for some redevelopment so most setts are open at the min ,the rest are right in the brambles though ... oh and the pic of the albino caked in crap had me laughing...
  3. used to think this too,i've also seen it happen a lot so now am confident if it's nice and quiet and seemingly "normal" outside the warren they should bolt...
  4. i have some in purple and i'm looking at yellow and orange ones as well... i expect there will be just about every colour listed soon...
  5. i think this is fairly common of a ferret thet's not handled enough so just keep on handling using the advice already given and you should be fine,i'd guess that "not too old" means between a year and two,for what it's worth, and a rabbit will be fine and cut up will last a week for one ferret, just another point, ferrets like company...
  6. i prefer the bigger ferret,i work three hobs(2 large,1 medium)and one jill(average size)so i have a good mix but i find the bigger hobs shift more so if i could only take one it would be a good size hob...
  7. don't think had mixy it was in good condition without a mark on it that i could see and when i opened it up to gut was a bit too ripe so i left it for the buzzard that was hanging around, also it wasn't the only one i had!!
  8. hi everyone, got out this morning for a couple of hours at local golf club and after a cuppa and chat when we met up off we went to the setts we'd planned to hit,on arriving at the first sett i noticed a rabbit lying down(like when they dob down to avoid being spotted)about 2 feet from a hole dead as a door nail and covered in frost but not actually frozen,it looked fine other than being dead,i mean no wounds were visible or anything,i thought this strange and wondered if it's something that people come across much or is it a rare occurance that i just found an unlucky sod that got caught out i
  9. hi all just a quick report of this mornings ferreting at a local golf club, got out with this years young ones and their dad and got four from four warrens, was nice to get out after a bit of a forced break from it(wife's shifts but now changed)nice frosty morning and good view of the fishing lake so enjoyed every moment...
  10. mine are called thorn and nanook(named after the dogs from the lost boys) and jesse,bo-peep and bullseye(my 3 year old named them after toy story characters)
  11. good news for me,after circumstances changed recently i can get out with the ferrets again so will be keeping them looking forward to my first outing in a while!...
  12. hey mart,it took a while but i think it's only fair, hopefully in the future i'll have the time again but for now it's not possible,i have 2 hutches and you could happily have one if you'd like,i will talk to you tomorrow night to sort something out,and i'm glad the little jill is looking good, hopefully these will be too...
  13. hi all, after a long think i've decided my ferrets will have to go,with working extra hours and the wife doing every other weekend i no longer have the spare time to take them out as often as they need to go,i have six to rehome, four hobs and two jills, one hob and the jills are adults the rest kits (4 1/2 months) they are all tame and used to the dog and have had a mixed diet of fur and feather,it would be doing them a big favour if someone who can take them out could have them,i am in leicester and will travel if need be to help someone out,any help would be appreciated, thanks guys...
  14. hi all just thought i'd share my 1st trip for this season, went out for a quick wander after work with my hob and 3 kits on some scrub land next to a golf course, only had time for 1 sett before it got too dark but was worth it,after trying them all(including my older working hob)i was left with just 1 kit down, all was quiet for a few minutes then one bolted which i grabbed and was sorting out when another bolted from a hole about four feet away, which my my mate grabbed,so 2 in the bag and a good trip for the kits i think... looking forward to bringing them on...
  15. i think most people are right, handle them as much as poss,i don't agree with knuckling them or tapping the nose or anything else because i think they could end up associating your hands with pain etc and not want to be handled, just be patient, slow, talk calmly, and i use one hand to hold the ferret and the other to stroke it while talking to it,i do this from the moment i get them and carry on every time i handle them(before work and at feeding time in the evening, and any other spare moments...)i have only given up on one ferret that i couldn't tame fully(the children might get bitten)so gave he
  16. i don't mate my jills, just keep them well fed and clean(which basically means keep them just the same as always...)and have no problems,i know others who keep jills and do the same with no trouble,in fact some of these are the guys i learned most of my stuff from,it wasn't until i came to thl that i heard "leaving them in season will kill them" really, but each to his own i suppose...i just hope that newbies don't get confused by all the difference of opinion...
  17. that's the best thing i'd say,a dog will soon put them off...
  18. are class, this thread had me smiling, long live the band of idiots... and the general idiots of course, and the non-idiots, and everyone else, ahh i'm rambling now...
  19. and have bits left over when we've put something together...
  20. ahh made me chuckle,to be totally honest i think this question can't really be answered can it? i mean it's hard to answer which pellets are best for my ##### because we all have different requirements etc etc, but thanks for the laugh and i sincerely hope you find a rifle to go round your accupells... oh and i use webley accupells myself in .22,good pellet...
