So you finished it..... Made me laugh....

I got a 5/8 grey 3/8 collie from 2 hancock dogs, though not directly from his yard............she's been a honest bitch over the years, switched right on to the ferreting game, a great "companion" dog, you never had to instruct her to do anything, she always seemed one step ahead at times, lost count of the times I'd find her led on a warren waiting for it to be ferreted.......just a real nice dog to have around. i like her johnny . How old is she ? Cheers mate.........She's coming up to 10 now. Nice cur John......right kind....

Must depend on what you're looking for in a dog and where you're hunting....I'd go for the more versatile dog.... The 4/5 dog would be no good to me...it'd be completely wasted up here.....

A good choice, but for me, you would get to many collie variables in the litter. Which is fine if you have a long list a possible new owners for the pups, but these days finding enough collie x enthusiasts to take them all is hard work even with a straight half x let alone some of the racy "one man and his dog" look a likes that would/could occur. I personally like that type, but they don't suit the majority. Even if they could do most of the jobs that the majority would ask of them The problem is though that folk equate raciness as the only asset needed to do the job...and raciness is

I agree with that....some, especially bitches, are so fine they are no more robust that a greyhound.... Not sure about the beddie though... This 3/4 bred - 10 months old in the pics - was a nice capable dog but sadly he was killed when he was 16 months old....shame really he was my son's dog and I'm sure he would'a been a decent animal....
-
Jai...he was a good honest dog...and he was pretty damn quick for sure...he stood 27" and weighed close to 80lbs when really fit....he was a big lad... I agree with you..half x is far more versatile for sure...will take more graft and to be honest the extra 1/4 greyhound probably doesn't bring enough to the table to justify it in my book.... And to be honest if I ever had been solely running hares on big open land I wouldn't have chosen a 3/4 collie/grey...far better animals out there for that job...

id prefer a reverse 3/4 a half x would be more suited to my type of hunting and the ground i run I've ran 3/4 breds...one of the best dogs I ever had was a Hancock 3/4 by Taffy away back in the mid 1980s...had some great days and nights...had stamina limits though....greyhoundy feet and was hard mouthed from the start....but he'd die trying and almost did once or twice....brilliant fox dog...wasn't the best dog on hares but probably caught more than a lot of good hare dogs...and caught deer all over and was handy on the lamp to everything....loads of fun probably helped by the fact

she's great colin... truth be told I probably wouldn't have her here if it wasn't for you... we are getting along just fine so happy days indeed Grand....she'll do a cracking job for you I'm sure....
-
Dave...the pup looks great and seems to have settled very well. And if she's anything like Iolo she'll take everything in her stride and will pick things up ultra quickly....he's a real one man dog, is learning more every day and is eager to please....happy days mate....

I used to use a man who was - at one time - the secretary of our local hunt and is still actively involved with the hunt..... I could rely on him day and night....and did so many, many times... A good hunting/dog fella he was.....they're a different breed now...sadly.

What colour would you Call them Blue

I've seen vets scared of dogs, horses and farm animals....why be a f***ing vet then..... And one or two I have seen are just total incompetents....was once on the end of a lead rein holding a horse for a female vet to shoot it she she f****d up big time and partially shot it....some of the most emotional few minutes I can recall.....
-
that sire looks shit I wouldn't evern feed him Granted he ain't a paragon of canine perfection but it might just be better than anything you have in your yard....seen a few very effective plain looking dogs in my time.... Probably seen more flashy failures though....

But you weren't going to be breeding for breeding's sake surely....you were gonna breed her to take a pup.....???? In my mind breeding for breeding's sake is just that bitch breaks down....whack a dog over her right reason or none.....and then worry about getting homes for puppies....be a nightmare situation that....

I'd have one purely because its a healthy, fit mastiff. But could someone answer what they do better than a big bull x? I'm genuinely interested,I've never even seen one let alone seen one work. I had mine from Plummers first mating purely because it was a healthy fit mastiff, what do they do better than a big bull cross?, not much I wouldn't think. Don't know why everyones getting in a tizzy, they're similar types at the end of the day, just personal preference. Borderscot, that's a lovely animal. Thanks mate - yeah he's a nice big dog.....I agree that it's personal pr

The planter/column in the middle of the lawn would get some serious pissing abuse from those bad mannered feckers of mine...and my pup would have all them flooers pulled oot the pots for sure...looking good though - well done....
