  1. You don't suppose whomever told you that might have been full of it do ya? I've read that wolves have or had enough jaw strength to shear the top of dogs head off too, you can read it for yourself in a book entitled Of Wolves And Men. Its a damn fine read too imo... but I have to wonder if everything said in it is 100% correct.
  2. The bull x looks to be first cross perhaps and took to the bull side, jmo. The SGW looks a bit heavy as well but that may be how you feed it too? I know my pups tend to sort themselves based on pecking order as far as weight and character, so feeling sorry for the shy pups I tend to feed more than I probably should and have a couple that are a bit heavy as a result.
  3. The donation price doesn't seem to be out of order, though if you think about it... its like being a union member. If you're a paid member then you can sell your pups, still don't mean shite about the pups, nor should it because you get all kinds in a litter of pups regardless of where its from and immediate culling guarantees nothing either. Jmo... better off culling later rather than sooner. I let the bitch cull and she keeps what she keeps so long as she stays healthy while nursing the pups.
  4. +1 Agree with others posting their answers. A dog with a ton of drive may "seem" to lock its jaws but its just their want or desire that keeps them from letting go.
  5. Tell us what their parents are and we'll figure it out for you, you don't want %, you want the fractions.
  6. Why do you worry so much about the ground being hard? Just asking because as a teen I used to take my dogs out in the dead of winter when the snow was 16, even 20 inches deep... so long as there was a thick enough crust that I could walk on it without busting through. I sure miss those days, walking in the moonlight, just me and my dogs and it was so cold your breath would about freeze into crystals before your eyes. My dogs love fresh snow anytime, its the between fresh and a decent crust that dogs don't like as they bust through just like you and I. If the ground itself is frozen wouldn'
  7. Thank you, seems like a reasonable answer especially from a historical aspect.
  8. I think it helps them focus and increases their prey drive, especially if they catch a few. How old is your dog, if thats all you have for him then that'll have to do. You might try lure cousing, check for clubs in your area. I used to flip boards and whatnot when I had terrier pups, they went nuts over crickets that were under them and they were keen to watch for the board flipping to start too.
  9. Yeh... may keep them all, may not... time will tell. When we bred them we had planned on keeping two of them so its not such a big deal being they easy on feed anyway. We have three adults which eat between two to two and a half cups per day each and the pups are close to that now... some days they don't eat it all, some days they do. Easy keepers. Though one is quite a lump compared to the others right now. LOL! I do like having so many to pick from... have one picked the grey/blue pup for sure but can't think of a name for him yet. I like the other pups too, its tough choosing so
  10. They're 7/8 whippet and 1/8 american staghound.
  11. Just some pics of the pups play'n and mousing
  12. Have heard 75/25 minimum, 75 being sighthound... so at what point does the amount of working dog become diluted enough that its no longer a lurcher? 1/16th... 1/32... 1/64th?? What is the difference in performance between the longdog and the lurcher... are longdogs well suited or no?
  13. Are the buzzards protected over there? They are considered "birds of prey" here so they are protected, I don't agree with protecting them, they are becoming thick as fleas because of it. And I agree that they take live quarry at times, particularly if they have young in the nest. jmo...
  14. A friend had a black lakeland without being docked, he wasn't bad to look at and he worked fine. He was the first and only I'd seen. My friend always said it left him more to grab onto, and it was, seen it more than a few times. I've got a dog and his was docked short, I'd rather it wouldnt' have been docked than short.
  15. No suprise in that based on what you said of the dog. no harm in asking! Can't say I'd blame you either.
  16. Holy Smokes! When I saw the title I thought it was someone asking about hunting with an EBD and thought wtf?!
  17. No suprise in that based on what you said of the dog.
  18. I believe it depends more on You, your dog and your hunting, if you don't get out that often and your terrier bolts more often than not, then I'd say no. Everybody is different... only you know whether it would be worth it or not. I've spent over $1000.00 on a single dog in vetting on one incident alone, but that was the exception rather than the rule. Most times TLC and the right meds stocked up and stored right gets you through. Jmo... Finding a "good" vet is like finding gold, most are in it simply because they chose that profession as a career. Again, jmo.
  19. What I hate to see is dogs sold having "known diseases or illnesses" which are passed on genetically... those are true shite, and if the dog or bitch works well especially it will be sold to someone whether the buyer knows or not of the problem. Those are some real good dogmen there, one's you can definitely trust. Chest thumping is fun to listen or read but it says nothing of a dog or its breeding of which genetics really should be considered don't you think? How many sighthounds do you know that are sound sensitive, when I was a kid I called it "gun shy" because thats what m
  20. from what you have said straight away i can tell that you would keep a sub standard dog! in my opinion that IS the reason why theres so much shit about and why the jackers are bred off! it isnt matcho its the RIGHT thing to do. no it isnt nice but its for the best if you cant find a pet home where you know it wont be bred off, people need to get off there high horses and consider weather they work there dogs hard or just sit on the sidelines watching and listening to there (heroes) in books or on sites like this messsaaaa Sounds like i hit a raw nerve there. I bet the ratio of fail
  21. If people didn't post pics of their dogs, there would be far less selling. Those pics along with the stories of glory attract would be buyers. I'm pretty sure most people know that, and yet there they are posted by none other. :protest: Some things never change, good or bad. Such is life.
  22. Lord have mercy! I've work to do and I'm sure I won't be able to think straight for an hour or two now!
  23. I've got a 14 month old male pup that I'll be taking out this fall for his first, he's full of piss and vinegar. He has one problem that I'm not quite sure what to do about, he face barks in the kennel and I'm hoping it isn't an omen of some sort. Any suggestions? I'm hoping once he see's game and is let on that it will go away. What do you consider "introduced proper"? He's not for-sale, just been reading here and there. He was born with us and he'll be staying with us regardless but I'd like to see the barking go away. He's keen at spotting but yet to be let go, and I'm sure that alon
  24. All pups have been spoken for. And this is the pup we're keeping, "SlimJim"
