Thank you to all that have posted, but I feel there are a lot of people out there missing this great opportunity to vent their frustrations yet one more time.

I saw very little slagging about anyone going on in the thread... no more than many other threads I've read. Terriermen are a tough lot, thats all there is to it so you've got to expect a little shite. Cripes a friend told me that GM was as scrappy as his dogs were and I have no reason to doubt him as he hunted with GM before he (my friend) moved to this side of the pond in the late 70's. Reportedly KG himself was going to have a look at it, see the similar thread in the General forum.

Good Black Dogs (Pattedales?) in the US?
DeanD replied to Dirtysailor's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Not much in the way of terriers, I can't dig at all now, I spent some time in the hospital and sport a bag now... fashionable eh? The ground here is sugar sand anyway, I've yet to see a decent earth even groundhog holes are scarce. I am able to get out a little with my sighthounds but nothing like a serious hunter... its all just good fun, love keeping the dogs and seeing what they'll do from time to time. Gotta have some sort of vice you know. I still have the Doogan dog I got from Lonnie B. that was a good breeding imo. Sometimes I miss the old boards... they were always go -
I just picked up a pair of rubber boots, haven't ever seen the brand many of you are talking about. Mine are just muck boots too... Servus brand, very inexpensive.

For those wondering why those areas are seeing such heavy snowfalls... you can stop wondering. Its our fault, yes, we Americans are to be blamed. We had a somewhat mild summer this past year and we either dialed our air conditioners back or totally turned them off. Please accept our sincerest apology.

Interesting indeed, dogs having perhaps 1/64th Smithy blood being touted. Once its past 1/8th or 1/16th its gone for all practicality I would suppose. Actually, I would hazard a guess that once the percentage or fraction is past 1/2 that its damn near impossible to increase the amount of a given dog's blood or even maintain it unless you're breeding brother to sister constantly... any further out and its only going to be diluted albeit gradually depending on the breeding program. But for most people it would be all but gone at that point. jmo...

I was going to make add a reply to the thread about the Smithy dog in how it was bred when suddenly it disappeared. The last post was made by Ohiolongarm today. The last I had looked at it was yesterday and my reply was going to be this; in the thread there were no less than three different accounts of how the dog was bred... 1.) Per KG reported in FMWTC magazine(?): breeding unknown. 2.) The pedigree stated by Ohiolongarm. 3.) The pedigree stated by Christian71. Is there any wonder its a mystery? I think the problem lies with todays terriermen, not KG or other older terrierm

Not saying your pup is or isn't what you want, but if you look hard enough and long enough no pup will be perfect in your eyes. Just something to consider, its easy to be hard on a pup without realizing that you're doing it sometimes. I'd think at 9 months you can tell too much can you?
-
Obviously it was bred INTO them, and for good reason... I've yet to see one afraid of the dark. They see better in the dark than those with eyes sunken into their sockets.

Are you saying soft dogs don't want to hunt?

Thank you, you have just enlightened me on some very serious questions I had been mulling over.... particularly about G.W. Now I know why he likes Arnold Swartzenegar(sp?)and why he didn't do anything to protect our border.

my old dog's finally caught a few of them big white uns

I thought it was going to be one of those mountain hares over there. My sis has a miniature schnauzer (Tippy) that took off for a day some time ago and the only reason my bro-inlaw was able to catch up to him was because the dog's coat had gathered so much snow he became unable to run, he could hardly walk even. They had to melt the snow off him! -
yes he have those hares here,,,, but there called mountian hares , and dogs could catch them snow shoe and mountain are 2 different animals Snowshoe is lepus americanus mountain hare is lepus timidus What does that mean, I've heard European badger are less agressive than American badger... are you saying our rabbits are agressive too? "Night of the Lepus"

Sorry mate but you couldn't be further from the truth. I've explained this on numerous threads, till I'm blue in the face. I'll put it this way, chuck a mug full of yellow marbles into a bucket, then one of blue , followed by one of green, finish off with four mugs of red. Now give 'em a good stir, close your eyes and one marble at a time refill a few mugs , then tell me you've got the same percentage of each colour in each mug. good way to put it fella Sorry, but STABBA is right. Just like most people wanting a dog... you're basing it on LOOKS alone.

11/16 grey, 1/8 Irish and 3/16 bull.

the REAL question is.... do you want to take the red pill or the blue pill?

Whats up with the One World Government? I've heard and read that they're trying to get us all under one umbrella so we all obey the same people, rules etc. Communism for the globe, being done incrementally of course. Most of the world has complied being the sheeple we are... but then there is France and Italy, the students there are causing a ruckus over having to pay interest on student loans. Such Rebels!! Honestly, whats next... internet use tax? I saw a somewhat decent conspiracy movie last night, it was called International or something like that... it was about banks fund

I take it there are no Snowshoe Hare in the UK? If there were, you'd be wanting a dog with some nose as well cause they're a pita to SEE if the ground is covered in snow. Fek, no way a sighthound would stay with one... I've damn near stepped on them seen them for a split second and then lost them again in less than 10 seconds time! Seriously, in their white phase they're hard to see, close or far.

Prove that.

11/16 GH 5/16 Bull to make it simpler call it two thirds ghnd one third bull That brings up a good question... where do people drop something... 1/32nd... 1/64th... ??? That far out seems a bit ridiculous to be considered. I am hesitant to say you'd see something from 1/16th blood show itself but you might depending on what you crossed it with. jmo...

Pups are 1/2 grey 1/4 deerhound 1/8 saluki 1/8 bull
-
You could teach / nurture a St. Bernard to hunt fox I suppose but would you sell any pups off it as hunting stock? If the dog hasn't the desire, then its lost something somewhere along the line and chances are it was lost due to poor breeding practices. But, not everybody wants a hard dog just as not everybody wants a soft dog... the main theme is that they work though. I think many times people get into arguments about what constitutes a dog worth breeding because each person is talking about a different type of worker or desires different a different type so its like comparing apples to

You need to be a little more specific than that... you've only said half of each dog used.

do pitBULLS OR kerry blues have a lock jaw , or any outher dog
DeanD replied to a topic in General Talk
Without looking, I believe so, it sounds familiar. Its basically notes or stories of hunting and trapping wolves by government paid hunters in the USA. Its very interesting, suprising even how smart certain wolves were and how other animals (a red fox being one) teamed up with or helped one wolf. Its a good read if someone likes reading hunting stories from the past.
