Only if the water temperature was in the mid 70s I suppose tropical fish could survive for a few days, possible a week or so if there's a heatwave. But it's impossible for them to live in UK waters for any lengthy period. Lots of the 'piranha' caught which are splashed all over the papers which proclaim that an 'invasion of killer fish' is imminent are actually pacu, a harmless vegetarian relative of the piranha that can grow to 3ft.

I'm sorry but 55 gallons is not big.... I had two 90 gallon tanks and considered them on the small side for what I would like. With regards to the time/effort of fish tanks - they are considerably less maintenance than dogs. I did a 20% water change once a week, which is a doddle with a hose and you syphon it out. Took less than 30 minutes. So what size tank do you have?

I will echo the other comments here. Most people who buy them think they are the fierce, bad-ass killing machines that you see in films, but the reality is that they are often skittish, nervous and a pain to keep. There are also quite a few species of piranha, the common one being the red belly, these are often mistaken for pacus (a relative that's vegetarian and grows to massive proportions). Some piranhas are best keep in groups, while others (such as the rhom) are solo fish. If you want a fish that attacks as a shoal, then I suggest you look at exodon paradoxus. These are small tetr

I vaguely remember hearing that you should freeze them before eating. Being sharks they don't excrete urea (or something along those lines), freezing breaks this down and removes it. Then you should cook it.

..and we think our prisoners have too many luxuries..?
shroob replied to Malt's topic in General Talk
I wonder how you would react if I told you prisoner include amenities such as flat-screen televisions, refrigerators, unbarred vertical windows that let in more light, designer furniture, cooking and music lessons, a sound studio and questionnaires to ask, 'how their life could be made better?'. You'd be pretty mad right, these are people who have commited crimes. Well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halden_Prison Then I'd like to see what you think of it when you learn that re-offending rates are 20%, compared to the UK's 50-60%. Approximately 2/3rds less. -
Was that for a new series?

Have you thought about in InterRail pass? There are different options available, but the 30 day unlimited travel is about £350 I think. I agree with going East, it will be a lot less expensive in the ex-Soviet countries than in Western Europe.

The domino effect. If Afghanistan falls to the Taliban, then it doesn't bode well for the future of Pakistan. Increased Taliban influence in a country which possess nuclear weapons is something I don't want to think about.

The USA did support us, they voted on the UN resolution requesting the departure of Argentine troops and supplied us with armaments.

Jeez - puts our rats to shame. Although the report admits they are only very distantly related to our rats, I wouldn't like them over here. Still, not saying our terriers wouldn't give them a go.

A photo would help you identify it. Though I would take it next to something recent/identifiable eg. todays newspaper to verify the image if you are serious.

Where do you work....?!

2 Gallons of water = 5 grams of medicine so: 1 Gallon of water = 2.5 grams of medicine. 1 gallon of water = 4.54 litres of water (so 2.5 grams of medicine) 4.54 litres divide by 4.54 = 1 litre. 2.5 (grams of medicine) divide by 4.54 = 0.55 grams of medicine per litre of water. Thats how I work it out anyway. I am not a doctor.

The old clips interest me - I've searched around for a bit and found some other films that people on this site may like: I couldn't embed them as this site doesn't allow framing. http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=15788 - Coursing http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=19874 - Rabbits and badgers Hope you enjoy.

Silver prices have crashed recently. The only reason the price of silver was rising was due to artificial speculation, and a court case in America.

Found this short video on youtube and thought it might interest some of the older generation, not saying the young ones wont find it interesting also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLU9ndx2pMw

Which event/show was this for? Didn't see anything myself.

My friend sent me this video link, claiming he took it one night, kind of gave it away when the people weren't speaking English.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZtY7368dxs

Nice pictures - get any of the terriers?

I see them as a bit of fun, nothing serious. If you're happy with your dog thats all that matters. You shouldn't need one persons opinion or a rosette to tell you if you're dogs good. Handsome is as handsome does.

Hunting Gazelles with Saluki Dogs in Namibia Kahalari Desert
shroob replied to STUNTMAN's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I think that is to do with the handlers religious beliefs. Meat has to be killed in a certain way (throat slit) for it to be considered halal. So the dogs might well hold the game then the hunters come in and slit the throats. I remember watching a video of some Indians/Pakistani's hunting with a cheetah and they did this (run in and slit the animals throat). -
In fairness, I do remember the show mentioning that the rabbits don't eat the grass, they go for the roots and rip up the ground. But I agree it was probably 1 man trying to protect his permission (and he probably charges a fair whack for 'pest control').
