Folks, I've had an older pcp now for nearly 2 years, its a Titan in 177 and shoots really well. It was a bit rusty and neglected when i picked it up for less than a hundred quid. I've only shot paper & it chronos at about 11.5 ft/lbs and holds the air pressure over long periods with no problems. I'm planning to hunt with her soon as its very accurate and shoots over twenty pellets before it requires a pump up. Only got a stirrup pump and find thats enough. It says Titan made in England, i reckon i got a bargain and don't think i'll part with her. Does anyone know if it would be poss

Spring air rifle shooting.
thursodog replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Nice one, Cheers Simon, i've been looking at the 77s as well. Do you guys know of any proffessional or expert tuners in the North East of Scotland? Might have a word with my local gunshop about getting a rifle sent south. I've read about some of the expert down south but can't make my mind up, anyone in particular. I'm looking for a sub 12 Weihrauch fully tuned. Atb Chris. -

Just out of interest, Is there any difference in accuracy between the standard and carbine models of the HW80s. Its got me thinking if there is i might consider buying a full length beast and tune it keeping it below 12ft/lbs. I keep looking at all these fancy looking air rifles on guntrader but can't see past these 80s, a bit obsessed perhaps. Atb Chris. -
Al take it bud. Chris.

My Rifle Isnt Shooting Well
thursodog replied to Michael Dykes's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
The same for me to be honest, i've put something like 3 tins of pellets through my over the last 3 weeks and steadily improved, saying that i went out feeling a bit rough (self inflicted) and couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo. I've also noticed an improvement with my new Taipan scope giving me a nice clear view @ 16x. Managed a sub inch and quarter group at just over 50 yards yesterday. Atb Chris. -

Hey folks, Picked up a second hand MTC taipan on ebay nice and cheap and in great condition apart from a couple of tiny fluff specks in the lens. They don't interfere with the sights and after removing what was left of the sun cover (most of it was missing) i fitted a push on flip up cover, it fits the perfectly and i'll be out having a go at the bunnies first light on Sat morning once i've zeroed her. Looks like a great scope for the money, anyone else got or had one of these? Atb Chris.

Sorry forgot to mention they are .22

Cheers guys, I've put about a tin and a bit through her and its going well, she only shoots the Field trophy and RWS hollow points, anything else is all over the place. If anyone is in the North East of Scotland i can swap 2 tins of thunder bolts 1 10 grain the other 13 grains and a tin of RWS superdomes that fly all over the place with her. I reckon they are slack in the barrel, they fall in compared to the nice snug fit of the H&N FTs. Any one ever used those prometheus plastic pellets, they're horrendos, can't even group at 10 yards let alone 30+. I've a couple of box's of these an

Hi Folks, Thanks for the advice guys, i couldn't resist fitting a tophat and have left it at that. Tried a load of different pellets whilst waiting for my H&N field target trophies to come from ebay with the majority not being accurate. Started thinking i may have overpowered the rifle but, and its a big but! I fired a half dozen FTT pellets at 35 yards and made a nice little group within a twenty pence first time. I've fired a lot of the tin over various distances and cannot miss! I'm over the moon and want to say thanks Pianoman for suggesting them, brilliant! All the best Chris.

Hey guys, I'm not really after alot of power as i have an lr and an hmr but i just felt it would be good to have the put out around the 20 ft/lbs it was designed for and also i managed to smooth out the firing cycle to a nice pulse that i enjoy using. Its making between 18 to 20 pounds so not exactly blasting them out. I'll keep trying out different pellets and see what outcome i get. Cheers Chris.

Hi folks, Decided to do one last tweak to my HW80 and added a top hat to complete my fac tune. Its got a bushnell legend 5-15x40 scope on it. Spent all day Sunday practicing with various types of pellets at different ranges. Can't get any N&N field trophy .22 up here of the shelf so started with RWS Superdome, put a whole tin through the gun during the day, hopeless in this gun along with Rabbit magnums, prometheus, any pointed pellets and thunderbolt hunting pellets. None of them grouped even at close range. RWS hollow points on the other hand are producing cloverleafs out to 35 yar

Springer for me. Did a bit of springer shooting in my youth then went for shots rims and centre fire. Its gone full circle for me as i've gone mad for springers over the last year. My ambition is to become a good springer shot. Chris.

Cheers guys, This stuff defo separates the boys from the men, i can hit a bulls eye repeatedly at over 150 mts with my Steyr .243 and also not too bad with the rim, hmr & pcp but its just so sterile and easy compared to the buzz i get from this beautiful rifle. I've have to admit i was blinkered in the past but not anymore. Takes me right back to being a young loon with iron sights too. All the best. Chris. P.S. I've gone from totally garbage to garbage with her in a week so things are looking positive

Happy birthday Simon. Chris.

Hi folks, I've been mucking about with my fac HW80 lately. Stripped and cleaned everything, Stuck in a new steel rolled piston liner (rather chuffed it fitted better than i a novice like me had hoped for) polished the piston to a mirror shine. Stuck in a new uncut titen no2 spring with a bit of jiggery pockery and regreased proper parts with bisley gun grease (not too much). Put in a tiny rubber washer to bring out the breach seal a fraction of a mm and regreased the barrel shims. Lightened the trigger pull slightly and have started shooting with it. I can put a pellet on top of my scope

I agree, i sold my HW97K for an and fell in love with it within minutes. Went out lamping last night with rabbit magnums, pigeon and a rabbit stone dead at about 40 yards, head shot on the rabbit sounded like an oak branch cracking!!!........ I can't stop taking my out of the cabinet and just looking and handling it, is this normal??

Spring air rifle shooting.
thursodog replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thanks Simon, All the best with your shooting too. I reckon the springers are the only guns with individual characters and i just love my HW80 even more since sticking in a titen spring and homemade piston liner. i'll be giving those trophy pellets a go this weekend for the pigeons, crows and rabbits. Can't get excited as much with my rim and centre fires and never will. All the best Chris. -

Hi guys, Fantastic reading on this subject, very inspired by Simons original post. Thanks. -
Hi folks, Happy Newyear. Awaiting my first shotgun license and well stoked as i have kept this on the backburner for as long as i can remember. I've been doing a bit of shooting on over the last 15 years via invites (not that much) and a passionate fly fisher/tyer since my childhood. Funny thing is guns were my earliest passion. All the best. Chris Western.
