  1. I've seen a dog go 100's of yards to a hole and find a coon in it. Tracking all the way, late in the afternoon on a sunny day. Remember the day I was with you fat man and the earth wreaked of fox far off from the entrance. That's just what we humans could smell. A dog should know from a pretty good distance if wind is right. As for the issue of it being easy to find in an earth, I just personally believe it has more to do with the dog wanting to find than its ability to find. There are dogs that look like they're working hard that will bump into game they don't want to handle and they'
  2. I don't know why that's sideways. I am computer illiterate.
  3. A cover option for the novel. We've got another in the works. We'll see which people like best.
  4. I think alot of the issue with dogs that can't "find" underground is that the dogs just don't want to find. It shouldn't be hard to locate something in a hole. Just my opinion though.
  5. Ferrets used to be more popular in the states than anywhere in the world. And people used them for bolting everything. Even coon sometime. Ghogs would usually not bolt for them. Now it's illegal because people were releasing them all I we the place. Seems silly though to make them illegal for that. They don't survive well.
  6. I'm charging double price to Fat Man for giving all our digging mates heart burn that day we ate the black pudding lol. Nah. You gave a good full meal and that's the truth Fat Man. Ivebeen, you're a hoot man. Come down anytime. I've got three pups to start this season. Thanks for the support, everyone.
  7. The wife is doing original art work for the cover of the novel. I've got a few pics to choose from for the non-fiction. When I get to where I can use a computer, I'll put some pictures of progress up And I'll find a piece of one of the books to put up for ya'll to read.
  8. Hey fellas, As some of my friends on here know, I've been throwing a couple books together when I have the time away from work or family or what have you. I've kept them close to my chest to ensure no one beat me to the punch with my ideas. Now I feel like they're ready to be heard about. There has been a lot of talk on here wondering why no one has been writing simple, good hunting books about the hunting and little else. I got so tired of the complaining, I thought Id give it a go myself. I think everyone on here will enjoy both books. Though my pride is in the fiction I wrote abou

  10. I've had a few that were outstanding. I say that without bragging. I've seen alot of dogs and these were top class for what I needed. My first was Dart, a Manchester terrier of all things. He never was used to ground but I treed over 130 raccoons with him by the time he was 1 1/2. That's not an easy feat fellas for any dog. I could guarantee we'd catch something every time we went. He only liked coon so I never dug to him on nutria or beaver or anything else that often goes to ground here. Mosby was next. He was half border half patt. He entered a nutria set that would've been 5 feet of
  11. The Muslims claim that God himself gave man the saluki. Perhaps Odin dropped us a few terriers and some good hounds
  12. That's great stuff fellas. Anymore?
  13. My mother asked me recently what makes my father and I willing to risk the lives of our beloved terriers or hounds hunting. We all know that each time our terrier goes to ground it could be the last. Why do we do it then? I have been scratching my head on this one. I don't know what makes it worth the heartache that comes from losing a good one. Everything dies, so I guess that I feel the dogs should be respected for their courage and let to do what they love most. For me, working terriers is all about admiration for a great dog.
  14. I am looking for some good working terrier poems or songs. Could y'all post some up here?
  15. I would love to have a chat with Brian Nuttal.
  16. Spelling errors. I can't mow the lawn near him because he has no fear of the machine.
  17. Fatman has fine dogs. My pup is a beauty. I can't now the lawn with him loose cause he has no gear of it. I am afraid he'll attack it lol
  18. I think starting terriers properly is the hardest thing to learn. Especially with all the things one can learn on the net and from other guys. Somebody asked how you know if a particular dog wouldn't have quit later anyway if started at an older age. They might have. But we know the odds are better for a dog that is mature. Myself by way of much trial and error in starting dogs. I eventually learned to listen to wiser men and start my dogs between 15 and 18 months. With the jagds it is also very different than Patterdales I have had. The bitches I have now didn't hardly want to start at 18 m
  19. I'll have to clear my inbox Unlaced Gecko may take a day to get to you but I will.
  20. No matter how shabby the authorship, these books will affect terrier work now and later. Alot of boys, myself included, had/have nothing but the written word to learn from. I like the interview style as well Neil. When done well, it is great. I like the Stevens book. Bluck's Irish book was not done so well IMO as he asked silly impersonal questions and put in information that some of the men had told him confidentially. He sent interviews to some great terrier men and he's asked them for their opinion on shows? Holy moly. That booked pushed me to write a couple myself which are in process of c
  21. I've heard of just taping them also. I usually cull them when I see it. Hernias can be connected to heart and lung issues.
  22. A good product is productive. Alot of people post opinions on here that are much less productive lol. I hear what y'all are saying but that the man doesn't post anything else hurts nobody but him and his business. As a well respected man would do better making terrier equipment. If people don't put their products on forums like this, they aren't heard of and if they're not heard of their product isn't used. I have seen boxes like these and I wish I had some. But they're not made like that here. I for one am glad to see there is a place to find them.
  23. It looks like their product is good. They do a service to those who don't want to waste their time building one of these. I can't understand the people on here getting down on people earning an honest dollar. I guess everyone should just do everything for themselves and an honest days work be banned forever because only ass holes want money. Sheesh.
  24. I always heard they wanted extreme hardness until the ban of contact testing.
  25. Good deal Blaise. At least they still hunt.
