  1. Hey all. I bought a Tomahawk when I was younger and had a pain in the ass sighting the thing. I had to put tape under the front scope rings to get it to adjust the scope down far enough to hit a cardboard box. Not to mention the recoil pushing 3 different sets of rings back and back and back. I finally got a single rail scope mount but it wouldn't fit the dovetails. Had to take it to a professional and get proper rings. I have also noticed that it rattles all the time. Has anyone else had these problems with a Webley Tomahawk? It cost an arm and a leg and is decently accurate. Now I've got all
  2. I hear crap slung about guys selling pups for this price or that price. It's as Todd said, Whatever the value is to a buyer is what the dog is worth (to the buyer). Todd has made it clear, he's not ripping people off. Why? Because he is willing to turn around and pay it himself. Maybe you guys in the UK, back East and what not have terriers that work out the ears but out here I've had only about 1 in 4 working to crap ratio with the dogs I've got from other people. I've paid $750 for a pup before and if I could get that dog again for $1000 I'd do it again. He was a hell of a worker at 2 years
  3. Not to be an ass. I have been told the same stuff when i asked about getting dogs for an outcross and people slung shit at me. I was pissed, everyone acted like I didn't know shit. If you do know your stuff then go for it. But if you've got as much to learn as your posts indicate, then wait and hunt with more guys.
  4. All these questions are making me laugh to myself. If you don't know anything about inbreeding and linebreeding, don't do it. Learn up some more, not just on here either. Everybody's got an opinion on the subject and they are conflicting. I'm guessing you haven't worked with dogs very long if you don't know anything about how to get a line of your own going, for the sake of that, don't line breed what you've got til you know it's better than what another line can offer. There are alot of already developed lines. I can't imagine if you are hunting the type of ground that has been hunted for ce
  5. How do you get there fast enough with the lemon?

Hey Griz. I used to read your posts on terrier central. Thought your dogs looked the part. Who can say from pictures though. What kind of dog work you up to these days?

  7. Wow, I love those terrier songs. That last one really tells the terrier's life.
  8. I've heard of the lucas book. I'd really like to get my hands on a copy.
  9. If you wanted a working manchester type, I think the best thing to do would be to cross a working jagd with a black working whippet and selectively cull toward a type. This is essentially what the manchester is. Breed down the size to about a 16 pound dog.
  10. but the big question is do they work ! ! ! :D I heard they were just a couple show ponies. Well groomed though. lol
  11. The one time publishing nabbed me. I wasn't gonna let that slip me by. I have some books on houndmen like this one and they're a great read. I read them again and again. I've found they scratch the itch when I can't get out for the real hunting. Can't wait for my copy. It will be nice to know more about the dogs that have been idolized.
  12. That badger/butcher story would make a great movie for the cause of working terriers. Great story. i think the hunts would have the best records of who's who with what's what. Some of the names you mentioned have been hunting than many have been alive. Don't think us younguns can tell much of what we didn't live.
  13. Just ordered mine. I had some dogs off his before I knew who the hell he was. Still have them. Only line I kept.
  14. If it's eating shit it needs something more in its diet usually. Same with dirt and so forth. Usually a dog seems retarded if it ain't getting any field time. I've found the puppy stuff stops when they get hunted and the obedience increases tenfold.
  15. Had a manchester. Not hard but caught about 130 coons before the age of 2 and I sold him to my sis to get money for a new bitch and pup. It was a super great hunting dog. The best locator at the age he was that I've had. I would take another. I'm even thinking about it reading this thread brings back memories. All my friends were pissed when I got rid of him. I've had plenty patterdales and so far only 2 have located as well. The Jagd crosses I've got now are the closest in locating ability I've seen. The Manchester I had was a muscle bound dog as well. Snipy nose like a whippet though. My Gra
  16. They're protected here. The first and only one I've seen (If it even was one) was in Eastern Oregon. My buddy put one up a tree with his hounds on another occasion. I was not there I've seen martens and mink plenty in these parts though.
  17. Hey Christian. It's been a long time since I caught wind of you. I'm willing to travel the valley this week. Really want to get my two year old dog on a ton of game. He's not hard by any means but he'll put some game in the bag. I'll give you a call. Or you can call me if you want 541-580-0713

  18. I was Mosby on terriercentral as well. I think the jag/fells have the best of both worlds for what I need. The jag I throw in for the sake of the noise Erik doesn't care for.lol I like a dog to give a lot of voice to his game and tree if he's got the idea for it. The fells give good coat, build and, the main reason to mix the two, obedience. Mine range pretty far tracking. I lean more toward jagd qualities in hunting traits as they seem to be a more independent dog but the fell gives them much needed obedience. The noses on the crosses seem to be good. All my dogs go to ground and are mixers
  19. Hey. New to this site. Used to be real active on terrier central. I know some names from some of my buddies and i remember a few of you - Uphilldoc, stuntman - heard of Dan Edwards. I'd like to get in touch with some more guys working terriers this side of the pond. Seems good workers are slim pickins these days round my parts of the woods. My buddies and I mostly keep to ourselves hunting coon and whatever our dogs can tree or run to ground. We've got Jag/fell crosses with a dash of working fox terrier thrown in. Recently decided it would be good to know what's happening in the rest of the te
  20. Thanks Ya'll. This site gets so many topics moving and names flying that I've never heard, I've kept my posting to a minimum. Addicted to the earthdog section at this point.
  21. Hello all. I'm a terrierman from Oregon, United States. I work fell/jag crosses on coon and nutria mostly with a fox, beaver or otter thrown in the bag here and there. I like my dogs to have grit, nose and treeing. Just got some ferrets this year to try on some ground squirrel. I don't know of any other ferreters where I live and so far I haven't had much luck with my own. I don't know what to expect so I'll read up and keep workin them til hibernating time. Love workin the dogs and am excited to read what others are up to. I've seen some nice stuff on here. Adam
