  1. i always do this, i give my dog the best chance possible. i walk the hedge lines and i try to work out were the rabbit wants to be and get in between that and the bunny. as said keep the dog on the slip, walk on a squatter giving your signal noise wether it be a hissss or a word, i just use rabbiitttsss lol walk right on it all the time getting the dog excited so its looking trying to see what your on about and make the rabbit bolt. do it a few times and the dog will realise that when you say it the rabbit is there somewere and he will look for it. mine has started taking bunnys out the se
  2. get your self something small, collie/whippet, beddy/whippet something along those lines. get your self a ferret and some nets and go round asking for ferreting permission and just have the small dog to tag along at first. once your on and the land owner see`s he can trust you and you doin the job then its time to start running the dog. well thats the way ide do it. a small dog is more acceptable to some farmers then a big bull x as most farmers dont like lurchers or lurcher lads!
  3. the pup looks well mate, getting a nicer shape about him now buddy. hope he dose you proud as he is a stunner.
  4. well im off out in an hour or so, carnt wait! praying the little saluki will improve on her retrieve and not get any worse.

  5. well tell him im still waiting to get back up there! lol im sure he will pull round moll but it it was a bad one he may just never be the same dog again. did you go see one of them bone men? maybe theres some sort of massage you can do to help his back and legs.
  6. ive made my own from a RC car starter motor, we ran it the other day had 20+ if not 30 runs of around 500 yards round 2 corners. 5 lads with 9 dogs running them for around 3 or 4 hours. i used my 9AH lead acid battery, put it back on the trickle charge when i got home and it was charged back to full in 5 hours, ive used it for a few hours lamping and it can take 24hrs to recharge after that so these motors dont use my juice! heres a pic of mine i made, it all slots together and folds up and i put it in my little back pack.
  7. has he been injured moll? just keep getting him out and easy slips and im sure he will soon be back on form. whens the next time your out with colin? ide like to come down and meet you next time your over and give the dogs a run out together.
  8. well done duke. looks like it was a decent day.
  9. call him back. if he still wont come get out threw the day and work on recall. you have to accept your going to spoil your nights lamping untill the dog dose what you want it to. he will learn after a while that lamp off means get your arse back here. everytime he comes back even if he missed the rabbit tell him he a good lad and put him back on the slip. never tell him off or he wont want to come back to you in the firstplace.
  10. is back out on the lamp tonight, poor dog is gunner be fecked!

  11. sounds like a great night was had by you both. colin said you were coming down for the night so he wanted to give you his full attention! lol good work guys and sounds like it was well worth the journey for you.
  12. just about to go and lamp the estate for the first time since the fields have been cut! i hope theres some about tonight.

  13. i just got one for the exact same job mate but i got a pup to bring on. i would think a terrier that maybe wouldent go to ground would be ideal. there was one in the free section the other day would of been the right type of thing needed.
  14. i but he did his usual trick of rolling around on the floor with a bag full of bunnys on his back, just the usual sight for a night out with colin! lol.
  15. keep on going mate it will click at some point. take her out with a dog that knows what its doing and let her see its ok for the rabbit to squeal. if you havent got the chance to go with another dog just keep letting her do it her self.
  16. managed 2 and a half hours out on the lamp lastnight with my good mate colin and a couple of his mates. it was a really good night as the wind was nice and strong and only a small amount of moon shining threw. most of the time i was out was spent driving as its a fare old drive for me but well worth the effort. we managed 42 bunnys between us in the time we were actually lamping the fields and the action was near enough non stop. the fields were boggy and flooded but there was still plenty of bunnys hanging around the edges of the fields and the dogs did very well to keep the heat on t

  21. the other dog he is kennel`d with isnt bullying him is he? he dosent need to be attacking him the pup just has to be frightened of it. you havent had him long so fingers crossed all will be well very soon.
  22. mine has been coming on really well and even had a few bunnys now she is coming up to 11 months. she will retrieve a dummy or toy all day everyday perfectly but rabbits is a different story. i sat in the muddy field calling her like a baby what seemed like at eternity scaring everything for miles away but she finally came back with her prize lastnight. i dont know if ill ever get another saluki because ive found out just how hard it is and how testing they can be. i love her to bits and if it wasent for the retrieve ide be over the moon with her progress. mine has taken a very long ti
