  1. is his recall ok at other times? 2 weeks isnt a massive amount of time to build up a good bond with a dog. get his recall sorted first then when you go out with the lamp dont worrie about scaring the bunnys away. if you give him a slip recall him when the run is over. it will spoil the first few nights lamping you do with him with all the noise but it will be better in the end. once he knows he had to return when the lamp goes out then you can start to lamp properly.
  2. well im out again tonight, no chance of me decimating the population on my permission with the dog. i have to show willing so im far better off using the dog and getting a couple rather then using the gun and taking 3 or 4 times as many. plus my permissions are lifting with the feckers! and i have to shift a few to keep everyone happy.
  3. i was out last night, pup did well. thinking of going back out Sunday night as i enjoyed it so much. its either dog em or shoot em and they have a better chance of getting away from the dog lol.
  4. careers are renound for the end of the barrel being bent. were its threaded for a sliencer the barrels are very very thin and the slightest knock with a silencer fitted and knock them off zero easily. i had a mk3 a while ago and the barrel was sh*te! the pellet was tight then slack then tight all the way up the barrel and it grouped at around 2" at 10 yards. if your in the northeast mate give me a shout ive done quite abit with the careers.

  6. ide like to get you over and let you see mate and bring rocky with you. but its only a small place and its a decent drive for you to get a lift sorted out. youde end up with only a few runs. but you are very welcome anytime mate, if you can ever borrow a motor. thanks for the comments lads.
  7. nice one mate. bet your over the moon. well done pup.
  8. it was actually nice and dark lastnight so popped out with the pup. was determined to give him more of a chance this time. this is his 3rd time out on the lamp and the first twice ive just gave him 4 or 5 what i thought were very easy slips. he caught 1 both times out. the night was very still and this permission has been very quiet for the last few months due to a mixture of things, heavy mixi, 3 buzzards taking up residence, atleast 1 tawney owl, huge amount of little owls, sparrow hawks and a good amount of fox cubs this year! so there all getting easy pickings as mixi hit early and har
  9. fook me, i must be doing something so wrong. my 11 month and 8 month old pups carnt catch more then 1 on a night out from about 5 runs. well done that dog.

  12. when i had a litter a few years ago i had them on FRESH minced lamb heart as soon as they would eat it. very small amounts at first to get them used to it. i minced it myself and had removed it from the lamb myself a few hours earlier. just make sure its very fresh and clean.
  13. the jill, around 4 years old, just come out of season. my half x hob, coming up a year.
  14. ive got a jill off my mate which he had a couple of litters from but dident want no more so i took her on. im sure she is a euro, or part one anyway. he said she was a wild polecat lol i also have a half bread hob which i got last year as i kit. he worked his ticket most of the time last year but has settled down now and worked really well last sunday. i think he has matured abit lol and should be ready for this season. will get a couple of pics. to be honest i couldent give a toss whats in em as long as they graft. i have 5 ferrets different colours but there all ferrets!
  15. yer mate i made sure he spent loads of time around them as he was growing up. even the older lurcher i got who wasent broken to ferrets soon learned what they were and what they were for. just spend time with the dogs and the ferrets together andlet them get used to each other.
  16. had his first sort of proper ferreting session today. by the 4th small set he was sat watching the holes waiting. holding bolted rabbits, maybe alittle to tightly but not to bad! he missed one when 2 bolted at once and only one went in the net, it ran down the tree line and slipped into the base of a big tree. 10 were shot, the rest were ferreted. all a decent size, never had any baby ones all day and only one small ish one.
  17. then when he`s up to scratch ill introduce the wee bitch to the game. carnt wait to get 2 dogs working the long nets and open warrens with no messing around with purse nets!
  18. my missus wants the little one at the back! in the first pic.
  19. im using dry chappie original (its good for a cheap dry food) and add raw meat, veg and fish. the more exercise i give them the more raw i add.
  20. its abit of a mystery mate lol he was taken from his owner for mistreatment at around 4 months and its taken me the last 5 or 6 months to pull him round. he is still very quiet but i much happier dog now. i tried to find out but the tossers werent very helpful about letting me know whats in him. so he is a lurcher! everyone who has seen him guesses different.
  21. very nice bitch mate, the pictures are real quality.
