223 Poor Grouping
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to let'sshoot's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
There's only a limited number of things it could be? Charlie callers advice sounds good to me, try to work through it with the process of elimination...like Cc said first try some factory ammo, maybe a couple of different rounds... Then try scope mounts? Mod off? Scope? Just change one thing at a time until you find your problem... I'm no expert but after trying to sort out some electrical issues on my land cruiser this sounds easy and could be a rewarding challenge!! Good luck! -
Shooting In The Rain....
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
No worries, I'm also interested... -
Having just been granted my first centerfire (.223) ive been doing quite a lot of reading on just about everything from rifle reviews, ammo, ballistics, scopes...ect. Something that just crossed my mind as i looked out the window in the pissing hard rain was, does rain effect bullet travel at range? Maybe a silly question... I'm guessing not many folk zero in in the pissing hard rain...

Gun Cabinet Question
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to timmy k's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Some houses don't have brick walls, my brother lives in an old oak frame house and screwed his to a structural beam and to the floor I think. There is always an alternative. Another old boy I know has his bolted to a steel frame in his "permanent" mobile home..which is in turn bolted to the concrete slab that it sits on... -
If the dog needed putting down due to bad health then you should have put her down. Sounds to me like you didn't want the dog anymore as it was too old...sorry if that's not the case but if it is, shame on you
-
Seems mad to me that you was going to put her down because she "looked fecked" and then gave her to an anti...
-
Why was you going to have her put down????

Advice On A .223

Thanks for the advise. Hopefully the next thread will be a new rifle and some holes in paper, then I'll pick your brains some more... -
Advice On A .223
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Cheers. Is it common practise to zero and inch high at 100 yards? If so how far can you shoot out to while still on cross hairs? I know I can look on the ballistic calculators, but in the real world? Generally I will have no need to shoot past 150yards, so is an inch high at 100 still the best bet? Also any advice on buying a second hand gun and scope? -
Advice On A .223
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sorry, I meant what ammo for the .223? I know most will say find what each gun prefers but what are the best/most common .223 fox rounds, centre fires are new to me.... Cheers -
Just had the phone call today from the FEO and got the variation for a .223 granted. Its going to be used for lamping foxes, any advice for me with regards to buying a second hand gun and scope would help. Also I would prefer to choose some ammo and stick to it, I found trying to use different types of ammo in my .22lr just confused things. So what ammo are you lot using and are happy with? Cheers

Do you know what caused it jigsaw? In the breeding or was it run to young? Or what? When's the deerhound thread coming? Cheers

I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to dogs but from what I understand the coursing men have it the right way. Generally they are all well tested animals, most tested to the limit and back. I think having a lot of saluki blood also helps. But they source out the best studs to breed from even if it costs them a few quid and have to travel a few hundred miles...where as the average lamping dogs generally get bred to whatever is about.... Obviously this does not apply to everyone but just something that seems apparent most of the time...you can also often trace the breeding back a long

Also is it not just feet to worry about but hard ground is surly harder on the whole skeleton especially with young dogs?
-
I like 99% of others have a choice, if they want to run on shit ground or not. I choose not to, as often you can find decent ground down the road.. So why risk putting your dog out of action for a few weeks.. I know injury can happen even on the best ground but choosing to run on shit ground is just an unecassary added risk..

I'd be just as worried about some of the cracks in the ground. If a dog lost his leg down one going at speed, it would end badly. Some are 3 inches wide and 2 foot deep...lose a whole whippet down one...

Comical Or Cocky Moments Out In Field
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to Deputy Dog's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Out lamping local with my cousin last season, we went our separate ways, I ended up walking around this hedgerow, flicked the lamp on and there stood 20 yards in front of me was an evil looking clown, 6ft tall with his hood up and purple trousers. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up for a moment before I realised it was a scarecrow with a mask on. Had to look back a few times as I walked away, just to be sure -
Biking Dogs! What Speed / Distance ?
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to Lloyd90's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Just started with my 10 month old pup about 9pm when it cools off just a few times a week I am just scooting along with one foot. Gets him at a steady trot, good for him to get used to trotting past people and other dogs without getting all silly.. Will start to increase speed and distance in good time when I feel he is ready for more...which to be honest is now but I don't want to risk overdoing a young dog. -
Lets See Pictures You Would Love To Get Framed
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to the trunk's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Is that a pure deerhound jigsaw? Any other pics of him? Cheers -
For what a decent 8x6 would have cost me to buy Im still quids in so far, next is to finish cladding. Hang a nice strong door. Paint her up and get some power in it! Get all my fishing stuff, shooting stuff, mountain bike, freezer and whatever else she wants out there lol.... I read somewhere on here before about engine oil 50/50 mix in the shed/fence paint??? Anyone? Thanks for looking, any advice welcome Oh and lets see your caves

9. Second layer of fiberglass paint... 10. I think this was a test fit before the fiberglass, but you get the idea, roof on... 11. Started cladding today in the 7 inch sturdy stuff, and banged a fixed glazed window in which cost me a fiver!
-
6. Last of the framework with door cut out... 7. 3x2 joists for the roof covered in 11mm OSB... 8. First layer of fiberglass on the roof
-
4. Concrete in... 5. Course of bricks to keep it up from the mud... 6. 2x2 studwork frames built in panels, so easier to take down (if ever needed)...

Only had a poxy little shed for a while now, so all my stuff has been kept round at my old mans, which has been a pain as he lives 15 minutes away. So here is my shed build......... 1. Old shitter smashed down... 2. Marked out 8x6... 3. Dug out, shuttering and hardcore...
