Well, the pure bred obviously ain't ideal for roustabout 'lurcher work', or we would see a lot more of them, out and about...
In saying that .......I did have a pup one time, and she really was a smashing wee thing..
She came to me off a 'Flapping Track' Dam, at six weeks of age, and as I was out of work at the time, we went everywhere together...
We killed loads of hares, ...and she mowed Roe deer down, like they were standing still
Never had any rabbits at that time,...very few around locally and I had no interest in walking miles, for little reward.
Wee Tina was a beautiful creature,....but, her shimmering jet black coat bore the marks of the wire,...she never quite mastered the art of slowing down...
I was slowly scrolling down the page as I read this and at first I thought that greyhound looked a right carthorse.

Joined 2010. Were you called "collie daft" before? Your logo looks familiar.

the most embarresing thing about that.....is the clothes there wearing.....what the f**k is that about..
An attempt to recreate some historic rural past that may or may not have ever existed in the first place. Either way it ends up looking silly.

She’s the least intelligent collie I own the main aim of the game is to produce a dog that could come round in the truck with the collies and go out with the bushers and mug some stuff. We don’t really have rabbits here, but my lamp dogs are getting to look a way that they aren’t really something I can take some places round here day time.
If you put a beddy/grey over her and keep a rough coated collie marked pup that should look incognito. Wouldn't be as good a catch dog as a straight collie/grey though I wouldn't think.

If you were going to breed a collie lurcher out of a leggy collie bitch, what would you use over it ?
Greyhound ?
Whippet?
Lurcher? If so what type ?
Irish coursing grey or one of the marathon track dogs that MHC recomends.

If the ethnic minority work out where they release them, then none will survive, its getting harder every year to find game. In abundance
That was my thoughts exactly. I live near a coursing ground and in the old days they used to just turn em out local or on someones farm. Once the lamping crews knew they got no peace.
I hope the covid regulations don't mean this happens again.

To be honest, if we're looking at a 6 week lock down and taking into consideration the crossover RVHD strain in hares then they SHOULD release them, that's my opinion. I only hope they get released back on the ground they came from rather than on the nearest convenient place where they might have little chance of surviving anyway.
I ought to add that while I've always enjoyed open coursing, park coursing of captive hares just isn't my cup of tea and coursing with muzzled hounds is in my opinion just silly.

I wouldn't say so... He's probably sick to death of having his livelihood ruined by clowns disturbing his birds and riding roughshot over his ground..same as a shepard etc... Let's be honest, there's plenty of clowns in the dog game who think they can go and do what they please... Every action has a reparcussion... If your caught, you take it on the chin like a man... Don't cry and bitch like a little girl... What's the harm in introducing yourself and asking for permission? You may be pleasantly surprised? Or just maybe the keeper is a good judge of character and switched on, sees your a nob, tells you to do one.... At least You know where you are then?
I was wondering why they keep telling me to do one. LOL, that explains it!

Here's hoping he does make a full recovery. It must have been a nightmare up 'til now. What did the vet do that cost so much?
At 29 inches he'll be a good height and he looks like a really nice dog.
What was the dog that ran into him? Must've been something big and heavy. That injury's not what I'd expect from a simple collision.

dont think them hares were in mouch trouble were they....better with some greyhound blood in the mix
Definately something needed adding there alright.

If you're going to use them in poor light (dawn and dusk) I'd advise 7x50 and get waterproof gas filled ones of a decent brand and the best quality you can afford. 200 quid upwards should get something half decent but you cut your coat according to the cloth you have and my own ones were poor quality and free from a house clearance but still work.

Bad do that Blackie. My sympathies are with you but there's nothing much else to say really. Hope people over there can sort you out somehow.

First cross bordercollie greyhound are almost invariably smooth coated and I've never seen one that wasn't weatherproof.
Bedlington crosses, as said above, often have a soft woolly coat that soaks up water and mud like a sponge.

LOL Of course they haven't improved. The question is "how badly have they deteriorated?". Even back then a lot didn't work them regularly like good lurcher owners would. Most were probably run half a dozen times a year if that.
I must admit I'm a fan of lurchers with deerhound blood and though most would disagree I still think they have a bit to offer to a certain type of lurcher. For a start, if you like a big dog they increase the size without losing overall "running dog" make and structure. If reared right the hybrids tend to have good feet and have a light bounding stride that helps them over rough country. They have a strong neck and a big gob to carry small game without crushing it to death first.
There are downsides of course, as there are with every type but I like 'em.

When I had terriers they often dropped into places unexpectedly at the worst of times, usually when I was just stretching my legs and letting the dogs empty out.
Christmas day before dinner, when I had pay to collect and the office about to shut, when I was supposed to take the wife shopping etc.etc.
If there's a place with scent going to it they'll be gone. No thought for anyone else terriers.

Lump on lurcher

Could be an abcess too if it feels warm. That's an area the dog can't reach to bite at thorns, ticks and the like.
Vets are usually over pricey but are good at lumps and bumps and if you ask early on roughly what it might cost as you have to sort the money out.........well they are sometimes surprisingly helpful. Best of luck with it mate.
