If you really want the pup go get it, take it on ferry yourself, I went from north England via Belfast to cork to collect the kelpie pups, other then costing a few hundred quid an taking time it was a doddle, if you want it, go get it
It's a bit trickier now as the rabies needs doing 3 weeks in advance of travelling and if you're caught without the correct paperwork they can destroy the pups. The EEC put a border between uk and Northern Ireland just 2 days before our pups were due to travel.

Yeah the thing with it was if it was this side I have a vet that back dates vaccines and rabies etc so I can send dogs the next day passport rabies and vaccines I get for 150 euro but different story in England vets prices are a joke there
It wasn't too bad in fairness. The DEFRA vet charged about 300 I think to do two pups, vaccines, health certs etc. It was in a very rural area and I think country vets tend to be more sensible.
Pups are here now anyway and are no worse for the big delay.

I was going to get the bitch pup and I went through bosun, iv a full greyhound bitch here waiting to put a Wheaton dog on her but if I could of threw the lad a few hundred it would of saved me breeding a litter and getting rid of what I didn't want/need, so anyway couldn't end up getting her as the lad who owns them don't drive and pups don't have vaccines or micro chipped so in order to get it to Ireland was going to be more hassle. But she was a lovely bitch smooth coated and red any lad in England would be happy with her considering the price of dogs now.
Just been through all this. The most ironic thing about that is they needed a rabies jab too, to travel between two countries, neither of which has rabies.

RIP honey, I remember reading about when you got her. Glad she had a good life.

some can call a dog off when it's on its quarry. I can't and I would be disappointed if I could. there are far better people than me with mutts but it would always be in my mind if it was fully committed?
A malinois police or army dog can be called off quarry. Might not leave go that very second but will come off, no break sticks or a bit. If it's hanging off of you you ouldn't doubt it's commitment LOL.
If it mistakenly starts to chase an innocent civilian, maybe even a child, it MUST be able to be called off. Most people don't bother or aren't able to train a dog to that level but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Just saying like.

i wouldnt pay any intrest to a site like that mate....
its an interesting discussion ...which is faster over a short distance or acceleration ....i honestly dont know the answer...
however i think hunting and racing are very different ....as is quick thinking....when you watch a good racing grey leave a trap i would be very surprised if a whippet could match it....but on the other side when a rabbit leaves a hole i would be surprised if a grey could match a whippet or very whippety type lurcher....
its a good question for the greyhound and whippet racers on this site.....max charts breeze or any others ....what has been the outcome when whipps and greys have been raced together....must be some data out there
Scratch racers are bigger and need no start to win races against smaller whippets.

I wonder how much trouble it would be to transfer the volume pot from that to the back of a lamp handle and wire it in???? If the size wasn't too far out it shouldn't be too difficult surely.

I've seen one bred that way and it was one of the ugliest dogs I've ever seen. Imagine a big misshapen deerhound with long droopy ears.
Having said that I imagine good linebred fen type coursing blood might work out well. Hitch a ride on the back of decades of selection and line breeding.

AFAIK pedigree australian shepherds are often bred merle to merle too. Maybe the inheritance of genetic problems is bred out to some extent by heavy culling.
Probably not....

The two that aren't blind should be checked for deafness. If one or both are deaf their training could be adjusted accordingly.

I know your f***ing finished because your not making that stupid noise you make when your processing and yes I know the f***ing doors open!
Car does it too if you put a bag of shopping on the passenger seat without a seatbelt.

Yes... hate that...and wearing their trousers under their ass.... I mean why? It looks stupid and it would drive you mad surely, surely you just naturally pull your trousers up when they are slipping over your ass...its a natural reaction aint it?

And it never gets any easier either but it's important to know when it's time.
when it's time then it's the right thing to do.

In my opinion Jigsaw has it right. When I moved into this village, 30 years ago no one else had a decent lamp so one or two people used to borrow my "blue eye" lamp and lamping became a local craze for a short time. The son of a neighboring farmer used to run his dads greyhounds but it wasn't long before one of them ran into a cast concrete cattle trough .
I stopped lending the lamp as it always came back in need of mending. Think the lads used to have a few jars before going.
If you're going to lamp fast or rough ground (and that covers most ground), be very careful.

Well done Vicki. Keeping the flag flying for legal lurcher work until we're all forced to become criminals.

As it went, they didn't check but we didn't fancy the risk as there was protests and trouble in the port at the original time the pups were to travel.
