  1. It's best to start by switching to white light to run the dog. If the dog is one of those that realise they can still see a bit in the red you can start to switch for appropriate short runs, especially on squatters. To begin it needs patience as it's hard to tell if the dog can really see the rabbit. (He can smell it)

I find juggling lamp, filter and slip awkward so mostly don't use a filter. Has anyone a good hinge system for the filter?

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that, buying a lurcher is a minefield, people think the grass is always greener but if you have a decent bitch that you like, breeding her will almost always be better than buying a pup that’s for sale to the general public. Always starts a big argument the breeding, buying, selling topic but personally I’d never buy an advertised lurcher pup again in my life.

It's good to see the pups grow and have pick of litter too but in my case it aint practical. Something like jigsaw's litter off of here was a great option for the lads that got pups. I got my current young one from a family of dogs I'd been following the progress of and I'm pleased enough with him.

If you’re passionate about dogs why would you see it as such a hassle? It’s a bit of hard work if you do it properly but it shouldn’t feel like a chore from a good bitch, should be excited for the pups not moaning about cleaning up the shit or feeding them.

I live in a small council house with four running dogs. I've bred pups before and would again but not in these circumstances, besides which, unless your bitch is a bit special you could probably buy better than you could breed if you look around carefully.

Apparently bullgrey deerhound Wheaton from Wales,  but I'm new to it all

He sound running partner though apparently grandad brought down a pig haha  gonna put it on his collar

What age is he Redace? I've got a pup bred like that, just coming up to 12 months of age and looking v. similar. I thought he must have something like that in his breeding because of the rough hair over his shoulders.

  5. Hope they're not totally gone. It'll be a bit sad if they are. Just before Christmas I found a pile of various carcasses including hares, just shot and dumped in the brambles in one of the blocks. Why would anyone lamp stuff with a rifle just to dump it, mindless b*****ds.(I'm presuming it was lamped). Can't see what enjoyment was in that.

Still out, looking for a goat, not a sign, I think they may be shot out and few if any left, the bitch has hunted up and flushed 3 pheasants, that's about the extent of her activities to date

Did you poke around the lowland forestry blocks? In this kind of weather they seem to go down off the hill into sheltered places. I think they don't like the rain much.

Maybe because I said all his stuff was overrated ,still is as ever was .The old colonel could tell a porky or two mind .

Hancock the lurcher breeder was never an "old colonel". That's a different David hancock which with your lack of knowledge of the prices of his pups is making you sound like a liar.

Hancock sold pups for 300 each and black pups cheaper .

at least getting pup from David you new what you getting ,and like any juckel you only get out what you put in .

the one I bought was a brindle rough coated bitch and was 200 quid. I still have her and retired her last season due to recurring lameness (aged ten).

Obviously the ones out of your reach mate .Went to his place few times with a mate and was told that’s how much his quarter bred stuff was .If you missed that boat no worries ,I expect someone will resurrect his lines for the money very soon .?

That was a genuine question as I thought maybe he had bred some special lines. Even by the 2,000s the quarter breds were only 2000. I bought one and still have her.

Maybe he didn't like you LOL.

Right back from as early as I remember a few lads have tried to raise the price of lurchers mainly because their names were commonplace amongst those who spoke loudest .Hancock dogs were vastly inflated for what they were and some cost £500 notes way back in the early nineties yet lads payed without a second thought as it was fashionable .

Why moan about it just stay away from pedlars .Theres still genuine lads selling for minimal cost to cover expenses and plenty of lads gifting to like minded others .Its always been the way ,what you are seeing now is inflation ?built on fashion .

Which ones cost 500 notes? I never heard of that before.
