My thoughts on this,,, scenario, you have a first x collie grey which you have put the time into training for obediance trials and theres a good chance you would win all day long take the same pup and from day one just give it the basic training and let it find its own feet and theres a good chance it will perform well in the field try and combine the two and it gets shady, I reckon all the obediance training for trials would hinder a first x in the field scenario two,,, If I was and I,m not but I were to try and win some trials I think a 3/4 bred would be the way to go, a

  7. who ever it was aimed at I think macky made the point (excuse me if I,m wrong mackay ) and you made the point yourself there was one or two who had the marbles BUT the competition itself didn,t have a great number of folks with the tools to make it a decent competition, so maybe you should climb doon off yer high horse

  12. aye if trials were to be held again and a good number entered it could be a success, like you say maybe not worth it, a bit hit or miss, I wouldn,t disregard it altogether though
  13. I,ve had two dogs now rob with a mixture of both breeds in them, obvious collie traits but not quite sure what the bull brings to the mix to be honest, both were/ are a bit fiesty but that could come from the collie as well as the bull, not much help to you that comment , sorry mate lol

  15. Obedience is a must in a working lurcher but only if incorporated into hunting, an obedient dog with no exposure to hunting is simply an obedient dog and not a catcher of game. I attended the NLRC field trials at Blairgowrie 1992 ( I think) and I wouldn't have paid tuppence for any dog there. Too much emphasis had been put on obedience whereas it was blatantly obvious the dogs present lacked hands on experience. I'm not knocking the trials the whole idea was to bring an element of respectability to lurcher ownership and fair play to all the people who tried to make that happen by having biddab
