  1. this is what i think, but try telling that to the rest of my family! we have a pet dog here and he simply MUST have dry food down all the time, god forbid he hasnt had it down for an hour he must be starving. it pisses me off as my pup is constantly grazing on his and she doesnt fully eat her meals of raw which i prepare for her, so i thought if there must be food down it may as well be something decent i have been telling my family this for ages but will they listen no. I'd get the pup out in a kennel and run: that way you can control what it eats. No one with any brains would take
  2. Dogs don't need food to nibble on as they please. they are much better off having one or two set meals per day. Their digestive systems are not like a horse or cow which needs to be constantly grazing, in fact, dogs were designed to fill their stomachs, then empty them completely for several hours before eating a good meal again. If you are trying to alleviate boredom, then you'd be better off finding some good chew toys for her to play with, or a large meaty bone. Dogs also work better on an empty stomach, and it is much healthier for them as well: mentally too they are sharper if they
  3. Sounds as though it has partially detached the nail joint from the rest of the toe, and has healed badly: if it is sticking up too badly I'd look at getting the joint removed, or at the very least, getting the nail surgically removed so it can't grow back. In other words, see a vet.
  4. Could also be cheytiella: walking dandruff: its a type of mite that lives on the skin and is found a lot on wild rabbits. Worth getting it checked out by the vet: or simply use Frontline spray every two weeks for a couple of months: need to do the dog all over and make sure the spray gets right down to the skin. Trying to find the cause of many skin problems is a process of elimination. Start by worming and Frontlining the dog. Then try an elimination diet: feed only boiled rice and either white boiled fish or boiled chicken: do this for a month and see if there is any difference. As
  5. We have a few in Cambridgeshire. They are very shy, and easy to miss in long grass, so very hard to spot. I've seen them swimming along the bottoms of shallow lakes looking for food: the terriers found one once, and it did the 'dead snake impression beautifully: writhed on to its back, opened its mouth, shut its eyes and lay there having let off its stinky glands: the dogs wouldn't go near it LOL But wouldn't leave it alone either, totally suspicious and fascinated by it. I picked it up carefully, still lying all in coils on its back, and it open its eyes and looked at me after a bit: very
  6. Fertilized embryos don't implant into the uterus walls until around day 21 after the mating. What you might have seen was the embryos that hadn't attached coming away: this would show as a small amount of blood coloured discharge. Whether or not your bitch is actually in whelp will remain to be seen. Very occasionally, if the bitch has a virus, or injury during the 2nd or 3rd week after mating she could lose the embryos, but the fact that you've seen this discharge doesn't mean that some embryos haven't successfully implanted themselves along the uterus wall.
  7. Unless their name is Sparrow, who can walk on water though she's always been as at home in the water as a seal: she can even tread water, and dive under for stuff:
  8. Pup practising: a bit splashy there, but he's a lot more fluent in water now: taken when he was about a year old. I've never had a Saluki bred lurcher so mad for the water before, but now he throws himself off low bridges as well as banks: and really fast swimmer too: it's that competitive nature I guess LOL Rubbish photo as the light was very bad: I must get some more of him in the water soon, before it gets too cold.
  9. A very good advert for pups indeed.
  10. Are you for real? All hare coursing is illegal if you deliberately slip a dog on a hare. The only legal way to use a running dog, or any dog for that matter, on hares, is to shoot the hare first and send the dog to retrieve the shot hare. No wonder the site is in the mess it is if even hunting men don't know the law!
  11. Don't you mean 'legal' Weasle? Coursing in Ireland that is.
  12. Surely if someone is banned for putting inappropriate post up, they can't just reinstate themselves if they have the same IP address, or can they? I don't know how it works, but can't you just ban certain IP addresses: sorry if this has been explained before. Could a bigger team of moderators not get together and agree to monitor the forum 24/7 between them, making sure that there's always someone watching what is posted. A pain in the butt I know, but if people can't be trusted to be sensible, then that has to be the only way. Or, have a probationary period during which every post made b
  13. There are several inherited faults/diseases in some lines of terriers. Firstly there is Perthe's Disease, which is where the hip joint crumbles away. There is also an inherited form of arthritis which can strike at a very early age. If any pup remains lame for more than a few days I'd get it checked out by a vet.

  15. Those photos are so good they don't even look real!!!!
  16. Take the dog to a Greyhound vet. I know it's a terrier, but most pet dog vets are rubbish with soft tissue injuries, and will just keep advising pain killers and rest. If there is tendon or muscle damage a Greyhound vet is much better at diagnosing and advising treatment as they treat canine athletes all the time.
  17. Thats ok if you have a driving licence, Surely you have a friend or relative who could drive you? Failing that, there's always the train.
  18. Huddersfield to Warwick is only 96 miles. About a 2 hour drive.
  19. Yes, a true nightmare results in a dead or badly injured dog. And whilst your heart does beat a bit faster if they disappear for a while (usually meaning that I'm cursing the bloody thing whilst worrying at the same time until it turns up), that feeling has nothing compared to finding one of your beloved lurchers, terriers or any other sort of dog lying dead on the floor, or even worse, immobile with its back broken but still alive.
  20. Yes, I can see that: but for me, a good photo isn't just about sharpness: I like movement, blurring to show motion, the actual shape that the dog's body shows, the way the shapes contrast against the background, or the way the shadows make shapes which compliment the real shape: it's a whole heap of things that make me like a photo, and perfect sharpness isn't always at the top of my list.
  21. Makes me laugh when someone says the light was crap but managed to get a few shots: then posts loads of superb photos  All very awesome pics: but I particularly like the fourth one of the Whippet coming head on: lovely catch light in the eyes.
  22. Firstly, in this day and age it is not acceptable for a dog to be wandering loose: you've already seen what has happened. Secondly, once two bitches have taken a grudge with each other, it never ends well: all of this you know, but seriously, how many people would be willing to take on an 8 year old terrier which is known to have 'issues'? You say you don't want to put the terrier down, but believe me there's not many people who would want to take on a dog of that age which, by the sounds of it, has been allowed far too much freedom to do as it pleases, and has, as a result, become somewha
  23. But I don't think I'd have hacked the smell in the sheds
  24. Has the vet ruled out tumours of one sort or another?
