Semi Auto .22 v Bolt action .22?
3175darren replied to TGEvans's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Depends what you are doing, most of whats been said is correct you do have a accuracy difference, bolt is more accurate however I would pick the gun for the job,as there is not much in it,If your permission has lots of live stock,as in horses cattle, spooky animals go for the quieter bolt action if not then it wont make not much difference, keep the semi auto clean and use good ammo you will be fine, and thats the trick with a semi auto is consistant pressures from the amunition buy quality stuff, I am just thinking of buying a pump action to try,If I can find one as these I think may be a good c -

As far as I'm aware there is no legal requirement to inform the law when you are going about your legal business whether it be lamping or driving a car. Besides if they have a report of someone moving round with a rifle or shotty they are duty bound to investigate whether you have phoned them or not. I just re-read your post and coming from Cumbria I can see why they are asking enquire if this is a short term thing, given the circumstances if not see below: The solution to your problem is a simple one: Ask them [the law] to show you where on the statute books the law is that they are ta

Yes its strange I have permisssion on a fair bit of ground, and now I am asked to ring the police when I am lamping does not a verbal agreement stand for anything in law anymore, or do we actually have to carry written permission, has something changed in common law, I do ring police to let them know and it seems as though they believe that now its the law, that I must, a lot of my land I have written permission, some land its by verbal agreement with the farmer what am I to do,its a proper conudrum

what with 2 inch shells??????????????????????????????????????????????????????
-
I would go for a moderated 410 every time, just go down to 2inch cartridges brilliant for rats in a buildings, then you have the option of 21/2 or 3inch magnum shells for the rabbits or rats at longer distance,I find half choke works best, unmoderated ones are all over easy to find,

bottled scents and attracters / lure scents
3175darren replied to 3175darren's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Well you hear of people useing masking scents for fox, attractents for them, allso nut oils for squirels some of these are for sale on protrapper,I my self use old rabbits or chickens up wind to attract a fox to where I have the advantage,But like swamp thang above whos used them for deer I would have never thought of doing that,I know scents and attractents are big in america, after all they set massive amounts of traps, and hunt larger areas than us,and if you think about it how many people put aniseed In pheasant feed,to pull there birds in,all I am doing is trying to find what people use,th -
Isnt it strange though how things change, how often so you see kids carrying shot pheasants by the legs, this was a no no when I grew up because of the rats feeding around the feed bins when ratting with ferrets we always wore gloves or washed hands with meths after, people are not as aware now of the disease
-
£7 each on there darren?Iwasnt aware pro-trapper sold them until you pointed it out,I thought kill-germ had distribution exclusivity in the UK? No theres another firm but I cant for the life of me remember who it is,I dont think protrapper ad does the trap justice as I use them a fair bit along with the half barrel,I like the nomol trap too that has its uses trouble is there are so many people selling cheap chinese crap

3175darren replied to Reevo79's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Odd really,I think we are taught and taught not to get scent on traps,I keep mine in buckets with a couple of mole hill tops thrown in, but dont knock what works,
