  6. I dont deny you have taken on alot of work on, but be patient take your time its just as hard with any brace of dogs try to train one dog at a time if pos if it gets too much 6 months down the line then fair enough get rid of the worst one, but by then you will surely have got at least one good dog this topic is a mine field mate, maintain consistancy with each dog use the same commands and dont lapse the boundrys with em they are a hard dog and will compeat with each other this may be a stumbleing block ,but if you get it right you will be a happy man

  8. Hi mate trust me thousands of pheasants, have fallen to a 410 I love the gun but by the sounds of it the advice you have been given is right 20 or 12 bore would suitable 410s are great over rabbit sets in the right hands, pigeons anything really within reason but range is limited even with three inch magnum shells, of couse the idiot lead shot ban in england rules it out for the ducks I do remember seeing ducks shot to a small flight pond with one and it was fine, a long time ago mind but you really have to be on the ball with one go for a cheap 12 or 20 at least then you can get the shot comb
  9. Has anyone any idea where I can buy 3 inch 20 bore BB shells ????
  10. I find to take my time, do a bit each night with a beer, make you mind up what you will use nylon or hemp and buy enought in,If hemp be maticulas with the quality control, especially If you end up getting it from different suppliers I have one net I made I did it to use all my old hemp up its a right mish mash of od rolls, but its a good rabbit catcher, dont skimp on the bag I use 50% ie 50yds of net to make a 25yds of long net,If you are setting at night it might be worth considering using different coloured lines top and bottom,if not dont bother, If you want to make the net a bit wider than a

  13. I bet thats the farther of mine,I was lucky I was loosing my old lab at time, and just decided to put a lurcher in my team of six dogs, went on preloved and he was there, the owner said that she no longer had time for him due to work comitments, when I look at the shape of the dark dogs head at the start of this thread and can see him in its breading I really like the animal,Ireally like the dark dog too,
  14. 17. Hi mate I posted A similar question, around my 7month old, wippet x gryhoung cattle dog mix, only got one reply, its a mine feild mine he is very quick and well grown, some people at home are saying ok over ferrets, where if I am honest all 99% of his work is going to be anyway, real dilema I am afraid will keep mine away from an open run, till he is 18 month and maybe use him to man the nets where no run will be more than 10 /15 yds I cant attach pictures neither pain in arse
  18. I have seen em made out of canvas tent elastics, the bit where you put the peg through very strong, readily availabe from caravan shops, would imagine hard on the fingers after a while,
  19. Hazel is very good better if seasoned well,ie cutt the year before and dried in the green house, ideal for loose nets,I have a quick set and like the fibreglass poles on it, but never used one on a loose net,and think you would have to really get the top line tight, to stop it collapsing to the bottom of the poles when first rabbit strikes, unless you use the grommets/castrator bands, in a nut shell both have benefits,I think hazel though for a loose net would be my choice, you can buy small green garden stakes from B+Q but they are crap unless the ground is soft and in the dark will knack up on
  20. Thanks for that what do you think about over nets, I have some rabbits to do next week, very thin fields no more than 80yds across with thick hedges,I will be bolting to longnets, and do you know anything about the cattle dog side of things I am told its becoming popular, I got the dog very cheap, and the dog and bitch were the size I wanted, well happy with him at moment
  21. Hi I am looking for some advice I have got myself a young dog he is bred from a 22 inch lurcher bitch greyhound x austrailian cattledog, his dad is a 20 inch racing wippet, and is now nearly 7 months old,I have had him since 8/10 wk so I know the dogs training history,he is retreiving well fur and feather,he is sitting and waitng well, sitting at distance at minute around 20 yds away general behavour spot on and loves to swim, and has caught one rabbit in summer,in long grass, its 26yrs since I owned a lurcher, and have spent alot of time training labs spaniels and pointers, and I know things have
  22. Cheers for that,Islipped up and put 18yds like a muppet when I should have said 18 feet with two pegs, any way got 100mtr of net from bridport nets last yr, so think I will have to experiment a bit,Many thanks for the info on trammel net,I too have heard they are hard to detangle rabbits from but might give one a go,my pup is only 7month old so trying to engineer he only gets very short dashes, this winter
