  1. I would say that the dogs that get all scarred up hesitate at the catch or do not go to the throat. I believe the buckskin dog is a natural born killer and she has not that many scars the white dog looks very fast and I find they get torn up by running to far in front and catching then getting bit on the head and when the others catch up they tear the coyote off the dog and that is were the damage is done. Is that close to what happens Doc?
  2. As far as tracing there history back. The guy I bought her from can trace them back to the guy he bought the ancestors from but that guy is dead now so it is all word of mouth nothing wrote down. the reason for putting the pic up was to show the deep gut and flat back of the strait stags compared with the others which are still stags but not as inbreed for just killing they have dogs in them that are bred just to run
  3. They are my dogs not Dan's and thanks for the replys. Yes we all hunt a little different I drive a Chevy so I do not have breakdowns and do not get stuck as much as the rest of them. I also hunt horseback and on foot. Doc I had him out the other day on some jacks, The first run he just watched but stole the jack when it was retrieved on the second run he ran with the older dog for 100 yrds but is still just goofing around. Another month maybe and they should level of a bit and start running. They turned six months two days ago, so they are only half way to next hurdle in there lifes. As

  5. Me and my wife talked about this very topic, after years with collies breeding trailing and working all that she wanted was a stud dog that people would breed to. When she produced one that is all are genetics and is proven both at home and at trails she started to get the calls pouring in and I mean that literally she won a cow dog trail and we received a least six calls that night to breed to the dog. I said no the bitches were not good enough, well that is were the discussion began. I asked her if she wanted to own any of the bitches that people wanted to breed and she said no. So then we g
  6. I read the last few posts on this thread and was wondering why you would breed a dog with genetic problems in the first place. I only breed worker to worker and do not have any problems all dogs are run as soon as they want and just enough so they are crazy keen at there game after there first birthday they must perform or are culled no excuses. I do not agree with crossing show dogs with workers as the pups end up in pet homes and they start dictating what a dog should or should not do because of there own dogs faults. I believe you should hunt your dogs hard and often. I have people asking f
  7. I think I can answer that the question about the dog usually they will stop when they figure out what they are chasing is not prey. As for the terrier it is all in how the hounds are brought up.
  8. well above ground I had two terriers and a BMC on a coyote the other day and they held it till I could catch up and dipatch it but they would have been lunch if the cur was not there. Under ground I have only used one terrier but would send in back up if needed. I like my dogs to dispatch there own game above ground and my terriers could not kill a coyote above ground so I have not purposly tried a terrier on coyote above ground. The only reason for the misshap the other day was that the coyote food source (gophers) have gone into hibernation for the winter and the yote pups are being driven o
  9. yes Black and Tan they do above ground if they can catch them. foxes were I live are pretty close living in yards, hay stacks, ditches, culverts and old farm yards to stay out of the coyotes way. The coyote lives in brush and slews in the fields and only goes to ground to have pups or if chased there. They are no good under the earth. I would put my terriers on any game below ground as that is why I have them. I am responding to the original post saying that above ground a terrier will lose and below he should win maybe a little tore up but a winner non the less
  10. I have used terriers on coyotes in the ground and I have had pretty good results. I would not let a terrier on a yote above ground all by its lonesome it would be lunch.
  11. here is a link http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=152502
  12. How ya doing doc. this pic is from last week a dog about 50 lbs his head is almost as big as the stags and that is number seven for this season and a bad sheep killer.
  13. I agree that you may be missinformed and uphilldoc hows the wee cookie doing.

  15. I was feeding pork scaps and found that some of the dogs get hot spots and all get the trots. The stuff was high in fat and was not cooked. Now when I feed pork it is fat free and no problems.
  16. i dont think thats correct sKycat theres a few drugs out there available to vets that will work on dogs and cats one in particular up to 33 days i think... id go for 24 hrs to be safe mate. the longer you leave it the worse for the dog but thats me. if you leave it later they could still have them!!!!! had a collie get the shots and she had four deformed pups just let her raise a couple and dispose of the rest. If you get her the shot and it only half works you are still screwed
  17. I would put the best dog you can find that hunts the game you want to hunt.
  18. some one was looking for a gaurd dog in the bull dog section
  19. If the dog is running and playing hard and found his speed, Try him on an easy slip if he does not catch wait a couple weeks and try again. I would quit trying if he is no good by the time he is two.
  20. maybe not the beaver or otter unless they are wearing a snorkel
  21. I would and do hunt almost year round. I am talking a month off for the prey to establish terriroey and staart breeding then I will hunt females and pups only till fall, Then everything but then again I am asked to eleminate by the livestock owners. As far as hare I have young pups to start for next year and like to let them catch a few easy ones to get the confidence up. I do not hunt bunnies. I will say that I moved to this area about 10 months ago and was suprised at the need for pretador control. I started hunting yotes and now have about ten different farms looking for fox control aswell.
