  4. That's exactly it mate, listening to then sharing their knowledge, and interacting with them is what makes these kind of trips... Id love to go to New Zealand, that's certainly one for the future.
  5. Haha! Mate, booked it this morning on a booking.com special, £135 for the night, got to front desk early, she said our room wasn't ready but could upgrade straightaway for 50 dollars...yeah OK, at least we can get ready and get out.. she had a little smile when she handed the keys and said " you're in the top floor suite"... lol... Might stay 2 nights now lol

  7. Only showed the native the big prints, the smaller ones were just to show Greyman as I was unsure if they could've been a smaller cat or like you say a dog of some type... The big ones were a bit different lol
  8. Just got in the truck, heading to Vegas...wish me luck lol
  9. Perhaps the most interesting thing for me was a tour we went on yesterday morning. The whole site is now owned by the Navajo Nation, they bought the land back for 9.3 billion dollars, so 150 years after losing their land they now own it, everyone who works there was Navajo, so our tour guide was a Navajo woman, as it was just me and my wife on the tour, we sat in the front of the truck for 2.5 hours and talked to this woman, every subject from history, religion, politics, nature, culture...it was fascinating, there are people still living in the valley with no electricity or running water, liv
  10. Pics in the museum and John Waynes cabin
  11. Yesterday was really interesting.. we stayed in a hotel that is right in the Navajo Indian reservation, it started as a trading post in the 1920s owned by a white couple called Goulding. Harry Goulding and his Wife recognised the area in Monument Valley needed outside investment, so the drive to Hollywood in the 1930s and approached film director John Ford, eventually John Ford agreed to come out and look at the area. The rest is history, with Ford directing loads of films shot in Monument VallEY, with John Wayne starring in many. Other moteable films like Thelma and Louise, Back to the Future
  12. It was an eerie feeling walking in there mate, like your being watched, I know its in your head, but there is a good chance I was lol

So the place we are.staying at is in the Navaho reservation, and owned by the Navaho..I got speaking to a Navaho woman and said about the tracks, she said there is a cougar here, abd you can sometimes here if calling at night abd its been seen quite a few times...showed her the pics and she just nodded and said "yes, cat" lol.

  20. Not sure if you've been to Albuquerque mate, but i think you'd like it . Quite laid back for a big city, but a real old world feeling, lots of Mexican and Native American archives, old Soamish feel etc... the Old Town is history rich, really worth a walk around, a few too many "tat" shops, but loads of original indian work, had a good yap with an Indian who made jewelery, was from the Hopi tribe, explained to me the old battle with Spanish settlers that the Indians won and took.the horses, 1700s, this was the start of the indian horses they breed..
  21. Thanks for the info Mack Yeah, that's kind of the outline plan, looking to get to Santa Criz and spend 5 days driving highway 1 down the Pacific coast... got to see Big Sur, so will need a few stops ..never know I might be able to cast a line in the Pacific and the Atlantoc on the same holiday...catching a fish in the Pacific would be the icing on the cake lol
  22. Got to say its beem amazing mate, we've not planned anything really, wake up and head in a general direction and see where we land..was meant to be in Amirrilo last night, but got there and decided against it, we'd had a couple of warnings, and it looked....we'll not appealing lol... got back in the truck abd done another decent drive to Albuquerque, ended up staying here again tonight as we loved to old town today, much more native American and Mexican like...we booked a small bnb this morning, lovely little place all done out with Native American themes. We done a long drive yesterday,
