  3. If you want a hob I can give you an albino or polecat. I'm in Wrexham. Sorry about your ferret.
  4. If you want a hand I am available with all the equipment - 100yd longnet, ferrets, ferret finder and make my own spun poly nets. Been at it for years. ATB Steve
  5. I alway charge mine in the car, never off the mains. My last battery lasted over 7years. As soon as I stop using it I put it straight back on charge in the car. Will never be over charged.
  6. Car spot light with home made wooden handle and piece of black tape in centre of lense. 12v acid motorbike battery, large and very heavy, burnt through the carry bag and coats often.
  7. Welll done on the permission. As said look after it and keep them happy
  8. Never had a bad ferret. Because therecis no such thing. They will all work and will all stop biteing if handled correctly.
  9. Just keep handling it (ferret that is lol). FFS my seven year old gets my ferrets tame. She puts them on a harness and lead and walks them around the garden n handles them every day. They soon stop biting. If she can hold a ferret in the correct way so that she does not get bitten im sure grown men can.
  10. Sorry to jump in on your thread. But a daft question - do you leave on bone when mincing for dog food?
  11. How many nets you looking for it? I can knitt you some spun poly
  12. How are you getting on with the red?
  13. I like many many falconers wonder often why do we do this. It is very very time consuming and at times heart destroying for the few great flights. Take last year, I got my female redtail out from the molt and started to train her up. I spent a couple of hrs each evening training then getting her fit. I got her out hunting and start the season off well with a kill on her first night. Then we had the very high winds for weeks. Although I had her doing jump ups/ on a high perch and free lofted, there is nothing like flying at prey to get them fit. When the winds finally subsided it was like start
  14. Yes feed them the night before or they will be hungry and eat down if they kill. I feed mine and if they happen to kill they move on. Yes i always use a locator but will save the ferret feeding and resting up on the kill.
  15. Always get one!!!!!!!!!! You dont think the slugs can get in the bowel after it has been changed???? Or don't you make sure your dog has access to water all the time. I get the same problem. I scatter salt around it every now and then.
  16. No its not too late. You can hunt it at least to the end of April. My female will not finish her moult until near the end of october.
  17. My female was my first bird and would not change her for the world. If I could only have one it would be a red. I gave my falcon to my friend to do displays with. I spent more time with the telemetry than the bird :-)
  18. They are great birds and hit cover like nothing else. He will treat you the way you treat him and by the sound of it you will have a good bird. As soon as you get him flying free get as much quarry under him as you can or he will get frustrated. Good luck with him.
  19. The key is fitness. Don't be too keen to drop its weight or drop it too quickly. Never steal its food. You will not be disapointed with a red, but need to put the time in on manning and flying. Is it a male or female?
  20. They are fine if you exchange food for the kill. They don't like there kill being stolen. Also cover the kill so that they can not see it.
  21. I lamp my female red and have done for eight years. She has never hit a fence. Use strips from a high viz work vest to make high viz jesses. Telemetry is a must. Make sure the wind is not too strong. They miss the first 5 or six because they have to get use to judging distance under the lamp. As they aproach the rabbit to catch it their wings open up blocking the beam, so you have to move the lamp to the side. Start it on some close ones first. I can now send mine over the other side of the field for a rabbit and if she misses i just shine the lamp on my glove and she flys back without the nee
