  1. had it happen to me once before, found ferret jill in run in the morning, think she'd been there most of the night, she was pure paralysed from the waist down, immediately i put her under a heat lamp and for 5days syringe fed her glucose + water, vet didnt know what was wrong either, gave her a jab of penycillin, fed her scrambled egg yolk off a spoon, she died after 5days. i tried everything to nurse her back to health. if it ever happens again i will pts for the sake of the ferret
  2. used to work in a factory where lads from north sea camp used to work day-shift, one of them once told me he'd just been caught out on a random drug test for weed, he told it must have been from secondary smoke as he never touched weed the prison doctor couldnt find any argument against his alibi! if they do fire him tell him to sue for wrongful dismissal
  3. hybrid layers are very good for newbies starting up with no interest in the breeding side of it; blackrocks, bluebells, sussex ponte, goldline they come in a variety of colours, are reliable layers, straight from the hatchery so have been vaccinated, and theres even a green/ blue egg laying hybrid called a "fenton blue" if its purebreds your after, go to a few shows, leghorns are good layers and a personal favourite, they come in a variety of colours the most common being white or brown but also come in exchequer and red mottled and even lavender as well as the extremely rare chocolate
  4. this is a great thread, really enjoying it, makes me want to move to france today! must say jonathan, your style of writing is just like your auld fellas, exchanged a couple of e-mails with him a few months back! atb gem.
  5. talking of places a stolen dog might turn up gav keep an eye on smithfield horse fair 6th march, lots of dog dealers will be there, dogs can change hands a few times at these things so it pays to be vigilant
  6. f*****g disgusting, what the f**k were they thinking, was it deliberate or were they targeting another species ie rats or water voles?
  7. seen it before, see the lasses out looking for a husband at ballinasloe horse fair dressed up like their going clubbing, part of their culture, first time i seen it i was a bit taken aback dont even notice now... part of the scenery.
  8. wher do i get to the free section http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/forum/128-free-section/
  9. stunning lake there, real smart looking!
  10. very few dogs intimidate me either, the yappy dog is more dangerous to a would be burgler than a big-ass german shepherd for example, met a few aggressive farm collies as well in my time, only dogs that would be a threat would be akitas, certain mastiffs, and 1 rottweiler i once met called major, that dog would attack with very little provocation. other rotties are no threat whatsoever in comparison.
  11. tryed to PM you but was unsuccessful, did you attend the ballymacad hunt show? after a championship show in dublin? met a woman there with a cracking parson russel bitch thought it might be you?

  12. Dont think you win anything at those KC shows not even prize money better off sticking to the hunt shows eh they dont show their dogs for prizemoney, best in show in crufts is only 100stg last i heard, its about making a name for yourself, its the reason some puppy farmers in the uk show dogs, i could mention names but i wont, the more dogs you have in the crufts catalogue the more buyers you have for your pups, its also the reason show folk drive to the most remote small championship dog shows in the country, even why uk show-owners come over here to enter their dogs into shows in irel
  13. my collie bitch is a good watchdog, lets us know if anyone is around the house at night, keeps the fox away from my hens and turkeys as well, only time i think she would bite is if a stranger tryed to grab her, she isnt the type to attack or even approach a stranger. my fella wont let me get a guard dog because (as he keeps telling me) "your a better guard dog"
  14. As the mother of a 5yr old daughter, the the thought has already crossed my mind, when i was a teenager we would be out ALL day on our pushbikes, horse riding or just walking about with the dogs, i really don't think i will allow her to do that when she is a (young) teenager, which is very very sad, however, i think if i could afford a professionally trained GSD to be by her side i would do it, i don't mean a dog to attack on her command, i mean a well bred, well balanced dog that would have a bloody good go if it needed to and be a deterrent for any dirty that happen to be lurking about

  16. in this day and age where it is getting less safe for children to play even in their own neighbourhoods i think this could be a good idea IF the child is reasonably responsible and level headed and understands how to control the dog properly.
  17. i think the industry should be more closely regulated and several breeds banned from being fished, and a ban on sharks under a certain age (say 5yrs for example) from being fished as well as adult sharks of breeding age being captured tagged or tattoed on their fins and becomeing off limits for the industry, if they were able to catch 2-300 adult sharks ea\ch year and tattoo or tag them and make them off limits you would have a better chance of preserveing stocks while not taking away from the chinese, even if it had the knock on affect of raising the price of shark fin soup even higher. mayb
  18. i would agree with that 100%
  19. my collies are a small type; 50% hill collie 50% trial bred border collie. very very tough, nearly too intelligent, excellent feet, good heads, double coated, prick ears, in black + white, and tricolour only.
  20. i have been breeding and perfecting my own bloodline of working sheepdogs for several generations, i have been considering the pro's and cons of breeding my own collie greyhound (or whippet) first x, if i did decide to take a chance on this pairing (and ive over 2years to think this over before i decide) what pairing would work best? collie bitch x greyhound or whippet dog OR greyhound or whippet bitch x collie dog? i only have my own collie bitch here (due to begin training for nursery trials in april) as her dam died at the young age of 4yrs due to a vet fuckup i have access to
  21. i definately have tendancys towards older guys, no more than 20yrs my senior though
  22. im watching it now! mental... do you reckon some of the shark fin trade is funding gangs or what? their as suspicious of ramsey as we are of anti's
  23. strange question to ask considering the dogs in your avatar!
