  1. it must be a dutch bantam thing, ive new pair of dutch bantams i bought today for my OH, also bought a large game cock, was funny watching the bantam cock trying to challenge the gamecock to a fight, the gamecock didnt seem to notice this small thing pecking him though the bars, if he had noticed it would have been bye bye bantam cock!
  2. someone in uk has recently bought a large group of shamo;- (although i suspect they could be another similar type of game ie brazilian or taiwan by the way th e-mail reads lol), they believe these may be stolen, if you know of [NO TEXT TALK] who has had birds robbed, refer them to this thread, i received this info via e-mail but havent time to post full details now, i will post full details later, gem. edited to add http://www.poultrywatchuk.webs.com
  3. im so used to having mental birds that are difficult to mix lol , i forget other breeds arnt quite as difficult,
  4. i would split them into 2 groups anyway, not hard to build banty house + run lol
  5. he could do damage to them saddleing them, either take him out into another group if you have it, or pull his neck and obtain a bantam cock pref same breed, it is your decision however, if you are really fond of him get him a hen his own size i would never mix large fowl and bantams.
  6. wouldnt have if she hadnt already endured the elec shock for 5mins. she was half starved, dont blame a beast for doing what it needs to try and survive, i could afford to lose a hybrid or 2, but not my shamos i got the big dog fox the other day that had swiped my 200euros worth of a young shamo stag, he didnt escape so lucky. was my own fault though, let the stag out free range for a couple of hours.
  7. im a big fan of bedlingtons but havent ever had one and im a fan of 1st x bedlington whippet as well, when i sell my bull lurcher bitch im going to replace her with one of these.
  8. jez........ havent a clue, try to keep calm yourself, maybe a dap for dogs spray in your vehicle or a more laid back dog running with her to calm her down, dont think surgery is the answer, just dont bring her out all pent up with excitement until she learns some self control, if she is all wound up when you bring her out walk her on lead till she calms down, if that doesnt work repeat the exercise day after day until she relaxes, walk her over rabbit ground on lead until she becomes a bit calmer and maybe reduce the protein in her diet a little bit until she has got over this phase, when she fi
  9. only animal charitys i support are the dogs trust and wood green, lost all respect for rspca years ago when they pts a litter of staffy pups because pups killed the runt they were only 9/10wks old i think, this was 15yrs ago approx. any breeder of bull breeds knows you cant take your eye off them , rspca put them down because they thought they would turn into dangerous dogs and savage people, ffs stupid + clueless + a bunch of anti's as well.
  10. question- why ex batts? only a little dearer to buy hybrids in from hatchery- provided you shop around with the hatcherys of course. and less problems with them
  11. nope, i was right. just googled gold tops and a few articles came up;- you still get gold tops when you x a white silkie cock to light sussex hen, the white silkie carrys the gold gene, you can still use a gold silkie cock if you want to, you get the same result either way
  12. Sorry to Correct you Carraghsgem,But to get Gold-Tops you Have to Put a Gold Silkie Cock to a Light Sussex Hen.Gold to Silver.Any sex Linked Breeding needs a Gold cock to a Silver Hen.ie Rhode Island Red Cock to a Light Sussex Hen.Producing Brown Chicks(Pullets) White Chicks(Cocks)As for the Question do Light Sussex make good Broodies.Definitely.They are the Only Hens i Put Eggs under for Hatching.I use the Large Sussex and Light sussex Bantams. never bred them but im certain i read in one of the poultry mags that it is white silkie cock over light sussex hen, recessive gene i think, will
  13. i never even thought of selling them, give a few gutted + skinned to the guys whos permission i have, rest go onto my table for dinner, or in freezer for a rainy day, offall is fed to the dogs and ferrets along with any dog caught rabbits.
  14. ahhhh cute lil fella....... hope his enthusiasm lasts! he'll be a pro by the time he's 5! lol
  15. perhaps it is fortunate that the thieves didnt know the value of a trained collie dog (i am assuming ben is fully trained) in ireland even an older trained sheepdog can command good prices, the jeep and trailer can be replaced;- hopefully with insurance money, whats the code for the ifor williams? if i see it over here i can contact an garda (irish police)
  16. for my hybrid flock (wings clipped) and my geese i have them in a 50m 4ft tall run made of electric netting, wooden stakes with plastic clips and a couple old dog kennels inside it, i also have a strip of horse elec tape running on the outside near the bottom to prevent anything digging under, i never shut the birds in, they go in and out at night as they please, i use an elephant battery fencer (for cattle etc) and have it running on full power 24/7, now for the fun part...... for the last few nights ive been watching foxy trying to get in, she has tryed digging to no avail, just a screec
  17. we havent had any lambs taken here but then we shut them in at night for the first few weeks, if we had them out lambing it might be a different story esp near bog or out on the hills, foxy is only interested in my hens, lol and ive electric netting around them,
  18. havent lost any dogs to accident yet, lost other much loved beasties, 1 rare animal in particular will be near impossible to replace till end of year. you have to brush yourself off and keep going forward.
  19. paid 120stg for my 3/4 parson bitch as a pup 8yrs ago best money i ever spent, she got me into hunting rabbits;- my interest in hunting has slowly developed from there. she is now semi retired, and still passes as a young dog
  20. i grew up there, unfortunately none of my family over there hunt! where abouts are you?
  21. if you crossbreed a white silkie cock to light sussex hens the chicks are autosexing ie the pullets are brown + roosters are white, the offspring of this mating are in my opinion the best broodys ever, better than their parent stock, they are commonly known as gold-tops if i was building a new flock from the ground up i would have a few bluebell hybrids a few isa brown or goldline hybrids for layers and a couple of gold tops for broodys unless of course you wish to go into rarebreeds! lol. light sussex are good broodys + fair layers but not as good as hybrids of course.
  22. i do a lot of both off lead and on lead training with a pup before it comes of age, which to me is about 10/11mths but mine tend to have alot of hound blood in them and are maybe not as hardy as some crosses. i introduce pup to its quarry from 6mths onwards with a carcass from another dogs kill, then i start to bring it along with another dog on the hunt.
  23. its nicely done, looks like it could move any minute! lol, im getting my old shamo stuffed as soon as breeding season is over, lad in n.i does a good job at it, think his names robin.
  24. plenty of wild goats here in west of ireland also as well as domestic ones that were dumped in local forestry, ive a wild billy/puck here that moved in with my domestic nanny and never left, hes a handsomes beast, im guessing he is about 10yrs! im too soft to shoot him, he is half tame now.
