  1. Ive just been reading one of the other threads about stud dogs in the USA , i Work m dogs in barns and earths , each have there pros and cons , one of the lads made the claim that it easy to find a coon in a barn, but when you look at it the terrier has quite the job, unless there's a high density of coons, your terrier has to try and smell a scent through dusty mouldy old hay, your earth dog has damp moist easy to scent earth, your earth dog then has to work in a tight confined area, so can the terrier working the the barn but more than likely to have more area to work in, just a couple of p
  2. what .... and your not telling me that isn't the case back in the UK and Ireland , i'm from the UK and have lived in Ireland and your dilusional if you don't think that kinda bullshit go's on!!!
  3. Yes i would consider 'barn work" proper terrier work, the dog has to locate in sometimes massive stacks of hay, then when it finds its Quarry (generally Racoon) it has to try and keep with it, Racoon's as you would imagine can climb and so can sometimes give a terrier a runaround, one of the reason why i don't mind a terrier with a bit of leg, it can be a few hours sometimes before you can move enough bales to get to your terrier, so timescale wise it can be just as punishing . I'm sure there'll be lads on here that will tell me otherwise, that its not the same as digging 15ft, but i disagree
  4. Fionn, Im from the UK but have lived in Canada 6 years, it depends on where you live as to the type of work and quarry your terriers get , i think the lads down south should get more work for their dogs, more quarry for starters, ive heard of lads starting pups on Armadillo's and Groundhogs, neither are worth messing with in my opinion, but then everybody has there own thoughts and opinions, they have Grey Fox, Red Fox, Racoon, American Badger( out west) and Possum all of which can be dug the same way they can back home, up here in the great white north they tend to do a lot more barn work,
  5. Hey Marky , the young dog in the picture was slamming into Racoons at 10 months but his sister was a lot slower and has only just started the last few times out and she's nearly 2 , but is showing good promise now, the other young border is about a year and she's getting into coons now. None of my Borders are particularly working bred from what i can tell from their pedigree's but all have shown promise with a bit of sympathetic entering
  6. Here's a pick of a couple of my Russells , there my own breeding but go back to a Fella called Alan Baulch from the south west , he used to be out terrierman for the pack of hounds i worked for, he bred some very smart dogs that grafted as well as they looked, mine arent that pretty but they do the job for me
  7. If you know some other lads that have some good bushing terriers, let your pup follow the experienced dogs till the penny drops, if it has an ounce hunt in it, it shouldn't take too long
  8. Beautful Images Dawn , very nice indeed
  9. " Nowt so queer as scent, sept a woman "
  10. cheers p3d , I normally use the trailer for the dogs but its so figgin cold right now that i thought it might be a bit warmer in the back of the pickup
  11. Ivomectin , probably got mange, if its not that then could be dietary , what do you feed her on ?
  12. Its been bitterly cold here the last couple of weeks , yesterdays low with the wind chill was -23, not conducive to doing anything !!! i tried the other day to have a scout about to see if there was any active earths but all i suceeded in doing was getting the quad stuck up to the tits in snow !!!! I was starting to get Cabin fever, so i decided to take a trip out to a local horse farm that has a couple of places that usually holds coons, so i loaded up the terriers and lurchers and headed out, we arrived and checked out a small hay barn but nothing doing, so we moved quickly onto the indoor
  13. Thanks for your kind comments , Snappy , that old boy has been a great friend and hunting companion, he's aged greatly this last year so i leave him home, it just takes too much out of him nowadays , but his brother is still taking Racoons on a weekly basis Thanks again
  14. Lovely set kay , was number 8 HDR? it has that kind of look , i'd love to see a bigger image of it

  16. Its already been said , but top notch mate , nice set , number 4 for me
  17. I've noticed alot of lads saying Honda , but i have an Arctic Cat 400 and its a really good quad , higher ground clearance than the Honda, i've left Honda's and Polaris standing in the mud, they're very tough as well , i turned mine upside and flipped it into a 15ft ditch with water in the bottom, near killed myself !!!!!! i turned it back up started it and drove it up the ditch till i found a shallow spot to get out !!!! enough room for terrier boxes , all round good bike
  18. Looks like a decent little camera, i'd go for a canon G12 if you can afford the little extra
  19. A friend of mine shoots Nikon , and she shot with a D90 for the longest time, and loved it, she's just moved up to some serious cash a D700 !!!! the 5000 and 3100 are good camera's though , my opinion is though if i want a video recorder i'll go and buy one, all that extra money's going into somthing thats totally wasted on me, i'd rather have more FPS or bigger sensor , anyway good luck with whatever you pluck for
  20. ok -25 this morning , that tooo f$@cking cold

  23. Good post there Yotee hunter!.. Great pics on the web site tooo... i failed today trying to upload a few pics but computer said TOO BIG! sure something has changed??.......... Thanks BR , which site did you upload them on ? make sure you get all the BB code not the HTML you dont need to use the insert image icon at the top of this box, or attach any images, just paste the code straight in the space , I find if i'm putting a few images on here i open a couple of browsers, so i open THL in firefox and then flickr in google, that way i can easily switch from one to the other, hope
  24. Sorry for your loss lad , What do you feed your Ferrets on ? the one reply quite early on said it might be Botulisim, if you feed flesh this is very likley, this was cut from Merck Veterinary Manual " The signs of botulism are caused by muscle paralysis and include progressive motor paralysis, disturbed vision, difficulty in chewing and swallowing, and generalized progressive weakness. Death is usually due to respiratory or cardiac paralysis." it can be treated if the antitoxin is given quickly, unfortunaly for you the vet that you called was an absolute f$*cking idiot, typical of the vet
