  1. Shes a great looking little bitch with intelligent eyes! And those rabbits are fat as butter! atb jai.
  2. Man its such a shame about the ban cos this is crying out for mink hounds. Would be quite fun to form a pirate pack?
  3. Take a shotgun then. I hate mink.
  4. jagd = death walkers. Extremely hard dogs that should only be owned by folk who appreciate just how nuts they are. Handy in a scrap tho
  5. Thats good pal. Im glad u are happy with the collar. Atb with it. Fm I've used them before plenty - i was testing it on a jill who had never worn it and was expected to hunt straight away - to see if it made a difference to how she worked. She didnt even notice! It was meant to prove a point . . . i think atb jai.
  6. Use a smoker. Not worth risking a good rabbiting ferret imo. atb Jai.
  7. I use Advocate, its a spot on treatment developed by Beyer/Bayer (spelling?) which was for small cats and has just been licensed for ferrets. Seems to do the trick no problems! You get it from your vet. atb jai.
  8. Yer i only seem to be able to see like the last 6 posts they made. Yer the meet up in the pub is a must! atb Jai.
  9. So what exactly happened? I.e did you see the mink or just hear the fight? Mink seem to be on the rise at the moment, i was ferretting near a stream today and had a horrible thought about mink, but there is no way you can tell is there, just gotta chance it.
  10. I do have good friends i trust. Sadly none that ferret, as i've never needed another person, i've never looked / inquired. And i've no brothers so its just me and the old man. I did take my girlfriend out the other day for her first trip out, but shes just not up to all dayers yet . . . . It's times like these i wish i had a twin! atb Jai.
  11. Yer mate - tell me about it! But i got a few offers already! So i'll be having a look and think. Still need help reading past posts, if i go on the profile and look through there you can only see like the last 5 posts or something. I need a partner - but imagine the horror of having to spend a day with an idiot and at the end knowing they could return without you. atb good luck in your search also! Jai.
  12. Thats really sh*t. RIP. Third or fourth mink story on here this month! Did you get the mink? atb jai.
  13. I'm just the other matey. Anyone know how to check out people past posts? Need to do some checking up! Jai.
  14. Tested it today. Took a jill who had never even seen a collar of any kind before out. Only collared her up (using ferretone) at mouth of first set. She didn't notice a thing, no difference to her working AT ALL. Just thought you'd like an answer. atb Jai.
  15. Say - 'it could be worse. . . i could be fiddling children'. I gaurentee she'll go quiet for at least 30 seconds.
  16. Yer thats a shame mate. I've heard getting a good partner is HARD, luckily i've never had to - but i think i'm gonna be lucky to get any offers. It's a shame cos i've got more land than i know what to do with and some of it is THICK with game.
  17. Maybee tame a kit, but the adults are not worth it. Tried around 12 yrs ago. Just tried to kill my own ferrets when mixed, and was a skulking lump. Nothing better than captive bred working animals. What went into the ferrets you have probs started years before when you were born. Dont go backwards for fingers sake! YEr - i'd have no interest in trying to tame an adult. Like you said - not worth the fingers. Would be interesting to see how a kit worked out just to compare it to the normal ferrets, polecat x's and tame wild polecats i've had/seen. May be no different when raised than
  18. Went out today and all the rabbits were fat and healthy. Low ground, but its been flooded recently following the snow, so i was a bit surprised. Just goes to show how tough the little buggers are!
  19. Cheers matey - thats the plan! I'm open to offers but will be doing background checks!
  20. Offer her a rabbit? Depends mate - i either carry on as normal and pretend like its not hapenning - maybe give them a funny look as if they are a crazy person or do what you did and say very little and go find a new hedge. One one occaision when i was fly fishing rather than ferreting i got one having a go when i had a fish on the line - she then threw a f*****g stick at the line at which her dog jumped in to fetch it - ON TOP OF THE FISH! Needles to say i lost the fish and was generally pissed off - on this occaision i showed her how to properly verbally abuse someone and she fled the scen
  21. Today the old man and me went to check out a new permission we had just got! It came about through unexpected sources (or over looked)! My mum teaches in a local village primary school. She has a teaching assistant whose husband farms beef cattle locally. This must have come up in conversation and the woman offered that i could ferret their farm. I rang the husband in the week and he said no worries - come down. Just goes to show. So we set off this morning to have a walk about and a little look-see at the farm. Being cattle we expected it to be pretty large but just wanted to have a walk
  22. Sounds interesting! Do you know what changed last year to give a larger breeding stock? Also really interesting that they co-habit with the rabbits - maybe the rabbits get used to them, i wonder if those rabbits are therefore harder to bolt if not pursued by a ferret with drive? Do you think there is any way to tame them? It would be interesting to find a litter of feral kits in the spring and raise them. Maybe. atb and let me know hoe it goes? I'm off out to a new permission in the morning with the old man. Jai.
  23. Me also - trying a new permission tomo with the old man!
  24. I haven't found that to be true at all. I feed mine before we go out and they will work for as long and as hard as necessary. A few kicks certainly won't put them off...if mine worried about a few kicks, hungry or not, then they probably wouldn't be the ferrets I would choose to work. Yes, each to their own. But I do not go ferreting without having had breakfast and I have to do considerably less than the ferrets, so I don't expect them to work on an empty stomach either. i went out today with my 2 new polecat ferrets, fed them a raw egg each at 6.30am and was on my permission at 8.45 ,
  25. Dont think anyone said that - just not to starve it to make it keen, but obviously over feeding is bad also. Most people (myself included) recomended feeding a well balanced diet and giving a light snack in the morning, not too over feed them. atb jai.
